Fav restaurant in Mtl, been going since around 2020. Editing my opinion, sorry guys but you made a mistake by removing the demi duck & the pato caliente ceviche!!!
This restaurant was highly recommended by a good friend who frequently travels to Montreal & did not disappoint. The vibe & acoustics are both great. It was very chic & busy, but not overly loud. The service was excellent & we asked our 2 servers what their best dishes were (which they both enthusiastically recommended some different things) & we ordered what they suggested. We started off with 2 signature cocktails which both excellent. For dinner we had the Empanas, Ceviche, Beef with rice & fries & Chow Mein. We had the pudding with ice cream for dessert which was also interesting. All dishes were inventive, tasty & beautiful. The only minor complaint was the dishes were a little small & averaged around $25/dish so for two people you will want to order 4-5 dishes if you are hungry.
Love love this place! Visiting from kelowna BC please open a location there! We came twice in one week.
The favorites for us were the ceviche caliente, dumlings, chowmain special & the dessert with ice cream was amazing! Thank you we will be back.
L'on me dit''oui oui ça s'envient.
We were excited to have some peruvian cuisine getting there but we had the surprise that their cuisine has'a Chinese twist'. Most of the menu is made of Chinese style pork, or fried chicken. They only have two or three fish options on the menu, we choose the starter ceviche (which was really good), the other'ceviche' was made of Chinese style cooked pork. I'm not an expert but it really didn't feel like we were eating a ceviche, it wasn't bad but if we wanted Chinese food we would have walked a few blocks away to China Town & would have paid our dinner for much less. The beef dish we had was ridiculously small & pricey. The quantities are ridiculously small, which is why they encourage you to select 3 to 5 dish for 2 persons to share. (But the price is the same as an average full dish you could get somewhere else). Disappointing. Our server was nice though!
I had a great time at this Peruvian place in Montreal! Honestly, what a gem. The food is made in front of your eyes & the ceviche & tiradito are fresh & full of flavour. All the dishes were fantastic & I found the service to be at a great pace & very friendly. The salmon ceviche was my favourite but honestly you can't ho wrong with any option!
The artistry of the food was amazing, & the vibe of the restaurant hit all the right spots. The food, however, fell a bit flat. The dishes were too heavy on soy sauce (Siu mai dumplings) & the ceviche was to lemony, & the other flavours were overpowered by it. The scallops looked amazing, but once again the taste wasn't as good as the look of it. The dragon fruit drink was delicious, as was the cafecito. I'd definitely come back for the drinks & the vibe, but not necessarily for the food which looks amazing, but tastes only ok.
The ceviche & calamari is delicious. I suggest adding new dishes as the menu can get redundant.
This is a pretty good fusion restaurant with some standout dishes.
For appetizers, we ordered the combo anticuchos, daily cones, & ceviche. The combo anticuchos were excellent-$28 for four skewers, & each type of meat was grilled to perfection with great flavor balance. The grilled mushrooms had a slightly sweet taste, which was an interesting touch.
The daily cones, however, were underwhelming. The cones weren't particularly crispy, & we tried all three flavors, but none of them stood out. The octopus one had a strange taste.
The ceviche was absolutely amazing-super fresh, with tender fish & a bright, citrusy kick that made it incredibly refreshing. Definitely a must-order for next time!
For the main course, we had the Duckitos. It's not a traditional Peking duck, but it came with a sweet & spicy dipping sauce, ginger strips, & pickled radish, all of which complemented the dish beautifully. The only downside was that a few pieces of duck weren't properly deboned, which could be a safety issue.
For dessert, we followed our server's recommendation & got the corn cake. I'm pretty sure it was made fresh to order because we waited at least 10 minutes-but it was worth it. The cake was soft, fragrant, & steaming hot, perfectly paired with ice cream. No one could say no to that.
As for drinks, the Marauchita was the better choice-fruitier & more refreshing overall.
A solid spot with some real highlights. Would definitely come back for the ceviche & corn cake!
Food is amazing; the flavor is very strong & distinctive. Ceviche, skewers, & pastel choclo (dessert) are the highlights of our meal. Peruvian x Chinese is such an impressive combo. Service & ambiance are great. It's definitely worth a try.
The only negative about my experience at Chifa was that I was enjoying the food so much, I forgot to take pictures of most of it! We reserved for 20 people for a surprise party, & they accommodated us perfectly in a private section. It was exactly what we needed, & the whole setup felt seamless.
Now, let's talk about the food-it was absolutely delicious. Every single dish was on point. We went with the formula option, which allowed us to try a bit of everything. In total, we had around seven different dishes, & every single one was fresh, perfectly seasoned, & bursting with flavor. Honestly, I can't even pick a favorite because they were all so good, but if I *had* to, the fried chicken was a standout (my personal'coup de coeur'). The mushroom skewers were unbelievable, & the ceviche with its sauce was next level.
The service was also amazing-friendly, fast, & super attentive, even with such a large group. The food came out quickly, & the staff made sure everything was running smoothly. From start to finish, it was an amazing experience.
If you're looking for a spot with incredible food & great service, Chifa is a no-brainer. 5 stars, hands down. I'll definitely be back!
Honestly, everything was great, the food was excellent, but the amount of time we had to wait kinda ruined the experience for me. We made a reservation for 8:15pm, we got there at 8:10pm & we didn't have a table. We had to sit by the entrance until a table "opened up" a little bit after 9pm. I rarely complain about things like this, but this kinda defeats the purpose of a reservation. A group of 4 that arrived after us was seated first, which we found a bit unfair. The food also took a while. The salmon ceviche came pretty quickly, I would say like 10-15 minutes after ordering. We ordered the hot plates a bit before being sat at our table, & the food arrived almost at 10pm. I must admit, I was cranky because I was very hungry so.. that didn't help too much & is probably making me biased. Overall, the food & ambiance was great. But I don't think I would go back due to how much we had to wait & the reservation organization. If you really don't mind the wait & are more patient than I am, you will definitely love the place :)
Bonne ambiance. Les tapas étaient bons. Mon préféré est le ceviche.
Food is always tasty... I sat in the rear for the first time. I wouldn't recommend unless you're with a party. You're extremely secluded, at least that's the feeling. Service was slow IMO. I ordered the Jalea Mixta. The most expensive on menu but it was mainly fries(lots of fries). Two or three pieces shrimp, 2 small pieces of octopus & thee smallest lobster I've seen. I was not expecting that. Next time... I'll stick to the Loma Saltado. It's tasty. The ceviche (any... duck included) is awesome. It wasn't the best experience I've had there, but it's still one of the finest in downtown IMO.
I was rly excited to try chifa but it was overpriced for the overall quality. food was honestly pretty mid for the price, especially considering the quantity they give you. The sweet & sour crispy chicken dish & the other crispy chicken dish were a little disappointing if you compare to other asian restaurants, the flavour lacked dimension. The salmon ceviche & the ceviche of the day were tasty but overpriced for the amount they give you. Also very slow & subpar service considering the price of the place, they seemed understaffed. The waiter only came when we called him over, once to take our orders, to give our food & for paiement.
