Chez Potier is not your average café-this place *levels up* the pastry experience in every way. The moment you walk in, you feel the refined yet welcoming vibe that sets the tone for what's to come. It's a beautifully curated space that blends the elegance of a European pastry boutique with the warm charm of a local favorite.
The pastry selection is nothing short of stunning-each piece genuinely looks like a work of art. I tried their in-house hot chocolate & was impressed by the rich flavor. You can really taste the quality cocoa, though I personally would've preferred it less frothy & a touch darker. That said, it was still a delight to sip.
I paired the hot chocolate with a strawberry cream pastry that showcased real craftsmanship. It featured four distinct layers: a silky vanilla cream on top that was absolutely decadent, followed by a refreshing middle layer of strawberry accented with fresh mint, & finished with a touch of fresh strawberry on the side. The base was a little firmer & drier than I'd like, but it didn't take away from the overall flavor, which was still thoughtfully composed & delicious.
Service here deserves a shoutout-attentive, knowledgeable, & warm. Their recommendations were spot-on, & it's clear they take pride in what they do. Beyond pastries & coffee (which is in-house brewed, by the way), they offer a selection of fine European goods including Italian delicacies, French products, truffle oil, & even caviar.
Chez Potier has a lot to offer & then some. I'm already looking forward to going back & trying more. A must-visit for pastry lovers, café connoisseurs, or anyone looking to indulge in a little edible art.View more
UPDATE: they reached out to me to apologize for the issues & reimbursed me for the chocolate plate. I ordered a pecan chocolate cake. The cake was delicious & beautifully made. I have had cakes from there before & they have been fabulous. My family has loved the cakes too. So for the quality of the food - I would give 5 stars. However, there were two things on my recent experience that made me remove the two stars: 1) I ordered via the website & given its a milestone for a loved one, I requested a personalized message on the cake (which was 5$). The website states a 40 character maximum so, I took the extra effort to make sure my message was less that than that & submitted the order. The business gave me the courtesy to call me however, they told me my message was too long & they would need me to cut the message down or pay an extra $5 for an additional personalized message. I accepted to cut the message down even though it was not my error & as customer I really shouldn't have had to pay a penny extra for what they promised on their website. I mentioned this to the gentleman at the till when I went to pick up the cake. He accepted my comment but I am unsure as a business if they will do anything about it. If you choose to take the personalized message option when ordering a cake, I'd recommend keeping it shorter than 20 characters or call them to ask them what they can accommodate to not disappoint yourself as a future customer. 2) The actual message was not written to what I would have expected. The message was supposed to be "Aging like fine wine". What the cake seems like its written is "Aging LIME fine wine" & not very very clear. We had a laugh about it & it goes in our books as a funny meme. However, if you are very particular, I would be cautious on the personalized message. I've also shared some photos. I would like to reiterate the cake was fantastic in taste & all my previous experiences here have been decent. The two above points are the reason I took away the 2 other stars.View more
The patisseries were good, but small & way overpriced. I know many place that offer the same quality (& some better), but half the price. two very small pastries came to $25!!!View more
Came for some coffee & pastries & they did not disappoint. Amazing treats, great quality & prices were very reasonable. Can't wait to come backView more
As an average guy who enjoys good food, here's my HONEST take: The food is good, but... It doesn't quite offer a game-changing taste experience. The utensils are fancy but not very practical; the fork was "too small" for cracking into some of the dishes. While everything we tried looked appealing, the flavors were quite familiar. Unfortunately, we didn't have a moment of "WOW, this is new," which was a bit disappointing given the rave reviews. Don't get me wrong; the food tasted great & we enjoyed each bite. However, for the price & expectations set, there are plenty of excellent alternatives in Old Port. The service was great, & the location was cozy, bright, & inviting. We will definitely give it another try, but based on this first experience, we've had better for the same price & quality elsewhere. This place seems more like a treat-yourself spot, & I understand that appeal. I still recommend it because you might discover something you love, but for me, it was simply a good experience.View more
The pastries were so good. More on the pricier side but well worth it! I would go back to try their other pastries. They also have a lot of French products you can buy which you can't find elsewhere. Highly recommend for anyone to try it if you appreciate good quality pastries & don't mind spending a little more.View more

Overthetop pastries! Amazing croissants in quality 🥐, it is the best we've ever tried in Montreal arriving from France! Great European imports make it a very good place for souvenir shoppingView more
Tried this place for the first time for Mother's day by ordering their Tiramisu they created for the occasion I will start off by saying the flavors were good & it looked pretty. That being said - it was ridiculously small. To say that this is made for 6 people on the website is just false advertisement. It's more for 4 people. Every single person at dinner laughed at the size of it. If I had brought this anywhere but to my family I would've been embarrassed. I've attached a picture of the cake next to my hand for scale. I'm all about paying a little more for quality but I honestly felt deceived. Additionally the young man working at the store was frankly unpleasant in his demeanor - like we were bothering him by being there. If I'm paying 50$ for a cake the size of my hand I would at least want to have a pleasant interaction & not feel like you're doing me a favor by acknowledging me. We'll probably give them another try in a few weeks/months because some of their other flavors look interesting but the first experience was a let down.View more
High level quality cakes & cookies... Ideal for afternoon coffee.Very nice baked goods..more international standard than the provincial Duc de Lorraine cotes des neiges bakery.. & at lower prices..View more
Amazing cakes! I've tried quite a few patisseries in Montreal & this is one of the best. Expect to pay more for higher quality desserts. Passion fruit cheesecake is my favorite & I don't even like passion fruit that much. Baba au rhum is my second favorite. Pastries are good but are pricier than what you can get in Montreal at a lower price tag.View more
My family had very nice experience with Chez Potier. We ordered 3 cakes, Matcha latte & Cappuccino. The cakes were very delicate, rich in flavours without being too sweet, you can strongly taste the different layers, they keep a good balance.
We like it very much. The quality of matcha latte is also impressed me.
We like everything about this place. Environment, their customer service & food quality.View more
