About

Chez José Café specializes in artisanal crêpes and classic café fare served in a laid-back setting. The menu highlights thin, delicate pancakes folded with savory ingredients like melted cheese, fresh vegetables, and seasoned meats. Sweet variations feature classic combinations such as fruit preserves, rich chocolate spreads, and powdered sugar. The kitchen maintains a focus on traditional preparation methods to ensure consistent texture and flavor profiles across every plate served. Patrons find a selection of brewed coffee and tea options that complement the lighter starch-based offerings. The interior design prioritizes functional seating arrangements that facilitate a direct and uncomplicated dining process for local regulars and visitors alike. This establishment remains a consistent destination for those seeking straightforward, satisfying meals focused on technique and quality ingredients without unnecessary culinary complexity.

Chez José Café is widely regarded as a charming and cozy Montreal staple known for its authentic Portuguese-inspired brunch, hearty portions, and vibrant, bohemian atmosphere. Many visitors praise the delicious menu items, particularly the breakfast plates, flavorful crepes, homemade sauces, and exceptional pastel de nata, often highlighting the friendly and welcoming nature of the staff. While the restaurant is frequently busy and guests should expect to wait for a table, most reviewers find the experience well worth the effort. Tucked away on Duluth, Café Chez José feels like a little oasis of joy. The vibe is eclectic & cozy, filled with character & color. The food? Humble, honest, & surprisingly delightful. It's the kind of place where every bite feels like it was made with care. Even though the hostess was running around non-stop, she never lost her grace. A beautiful place to slow down, eat well, & feel the soul of avenue Duluth.

Great brunch spot! Friendly staff & just what I fancied, a lovely veggie omelette with spinach, courgette, & feta, with salad. Simple old school. I liked it.

Came for brunch on a Saturday. Waited +40 minutes for a table, which was understandable given that it was a busy weekend. What wasn't okay was that the waitstaff forgot about us. By the time we got our drinks, the table who was seated next to us (they had come in & ordered at the same time as us) was already finishing up their meal. Our food came out luke warm, & they got one of our orders wrong. We told the waiter this & they said they would check. But they never came back to follow up. The brunch rush had cleared out by this point, so we were pretty frustrated with the service still being slow. Just wanting to leave at this point, we had to flag down a waiter to ask for the bill, waited 15min for them just to come back & ask if we wanted to order anything else. Overall disappointing. The food would have been amazing if it was hot. But to pay +70$ for a smoothie a coffee & 2 cold meals was not worth it.

I love this place 🥰 we stopped by for brunch, i just had a drink & the pastei, which is to die for!! I think my friends each got the portugese breakfast plate, i tried it & i wished i was hungry enough to eat more but i wasnt that day.

i brought their pasteis with me on the plane for my flight the next morning, & shared them that weekend with my family. I airfried them for 5 mins at 350 & they were just as delicious as i remembered them in montreal :) i will definitely come back here next time im in town 🥰
