Chez José Café is widely regarded as a charming Montreal staple, celebrated for its authentic, flavorful Portuguese-inspired cuisine and cozy, vibrant atmosphere. Many visitors praise the generous portions and high-quality ingredients found in popular dishes like the seafood soup, Portuguese breakfast, and delicious crepes, while the pastel de nata is frequently noted as an absolute must-try. The café offers a warm, welcoming environment that feels like a home away from home, complemented by a friendly and attentive staff. Although the popular location can result in wait times on weekends and limited indoor space, the overall experience is consistently described as a delightful and memorable highlight for both locals and travelers exploring the neighborhood.
Extremely good brunch: food was excellent, flavourful, good interpretation of classics with nice variation. Atmosphere is very cute & quirky where the decor makes the small space feel cozy. Server was very attentive & helpful, accommodating us when dealing with our toddler. Very strong recommendation!
?Great Spot to Recharge - Unexpectedly Good Seafood Soup!
?We stopped by José Café on Avenue du Mont-Royal / Duluth to take a well-deserved break after a long day of walking around Montreal.
?They were out of the soup verte, so we ended up ordering the seafood soup instead, & it turned out to be a fantastic happy accident! The seafood soup was surprisingly delicious, full of flavor, & exactly what we needed to re-energize. Paired with a well-made iced oat milk latte, it hit the spot perfectly.
?It's a cozy, welcoming place to rest your feet & grab a quality bite & drink. Highly recommend stopping in if you're exploring the neighborhood!
Nice cafe. Food is excellent, I highly recommend it. Coffee is good. Portions are very filling. The space is limited, but cozy. I will definitely be back.
I had such a great experience at Chez José Café. From the moment I walked in, the staff were super nice, welcoming, & genuinely friendly, which made the whole visit feel warm & relaxed.
I personally tried the egg tart with tea, & it was amazing, definitely a highlight & something I'd come back for. My friend also tried the salad & the matcha, & both were really good & well prepared.
What really stands out about this café is the atmosphere. The design is so unique, from the outside to the inside, you can tell a lot of thought went into every detail. It has a cozy & creative vibe that makes you want to stay longer.
Everything felt very clean & well maintained, which made the experience even more comfortable.
Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a special & cozy café in Montreal. I'll definitely be coming back!
I had the pleasure of eating here during a trip to Montreal & when I come here again I will be sure to visit again. The food was delicious & the atmosphere was extremely cozy & the staff were very friendly as well. Chez José Café shows love in the food & wears its heart on the walls.
My favourite brunch spot in Montreal! Food is excellent, I would strongly recommend the Mexican omelette or the breakfast sandwiches. Coffee & drinks are good. Above all else the interior is cozy, & comforting in a way that makes every meal enjoyable. Food is on the heavier side but all the more delicious for it.
The space is limited, so it can be difficult to get seating with larger groups. Additionally, the tables are located pretty close to each other so it can be a little tight if you have a lot of bags or other stuff.
Delicious, authentic food with a cozy, charming atmosphere. The service is friendly & inviting. Whether you're looking for a good meal or just a cup of coffee & a pastel de nata Chez José Café will not disappoint!
