Review Summary

Chez José Café is widely regarded as a charming Montreal staple, celebrated for its authentic, flavorful Portuguese-inspired cuisine and cozy, vibrant atmosphere. Many visitors praise the generous portions and high-quality ingredients found in popular dishes like the seafood soup, Portuguese breakfast, and delicious crepes, while the pastel de nata is frequently noted as an absolute must-try. The café offers a warm, welcoming environment that feels like a home away from home, complemented by a friendly and attentive staff. Although the popular location can result in wait times on weekends and limited indoor space, the overall experience is consistently described as a delightful and memorable highlight for both locals and travelers exploring the neighborhood.

A beautiful experience the moment you sit down. Awesome hole in the wall- family owned cafe. We went for breakfast (Mexican omelet) & the coffee was great.

Saw good reviews on this place so decided to give it a try during my weekend trip to Montreal. The food was good & flavourful but I personally don't think it was worth it considering our overall experience. We came on a Saturday afternoon so a wait time was expected. We ended up joining the waitlist in person & it was roughly an hour wait. Once we were seated, we ordered immediately - the portuguese breakfast platter. We waited probably 45 minutes for our food to come & then another 15 minutes for our bill. I understand that it could be busy but by the time we ordered, the lunch rush had already cleared out quite a bit (multiple empty tables inside & on patio). I also think waiting 15 minutes for just the bill is unreasonable, we even reminded our server 3 times for it. Don't get me wrong the staff there was very friendly & food was decent but I probably won't visit again.

Absolutely delightful. Atmosphere is great. Service was great & food was good. I opted for the portguese breakfast & we split pastel de nata (comes in 4) . The pastel de nata were mindblowingly good. Make sure you sprinkle some cinnamon.

Super nice cafe, with great food & amazing service. Hard to pick from the menu but I'd be down to come back & try multiple things. I got the Portuguese platter & my friends go the breakfast sandwiches. Gorgeous interior, & our server was the best. Be ready to wait on the weekend as with any brunch spot, just make sure to add your name on the waitlist before arriving. :)

Amazing spot, food was delicious, portions are generous, & service is fast. We had the Portuguese breakfast comes with potatoes, chorizo, peppers, tomato, salad, & bread, so good. It's a bit tight inside (you'll be sitting close to others) & seating is limited, so expect a line depending on the time.
