About

The menu highlights thin, delicate pancakes folded with savory ingredients like melted cheese, fresh vegetables, and seasoned meats. Sweet variations feature classic combinations such as fruit preserves, rich chocolate spreads, and powdered sugar. The kitchen maintains a focus on traditional preparation methods to ensure consistent texture and flavor profiles across every plate served. Patrons find a selection of brewed coffee and tea options that complement the lighter starch-based offerings. The interior design prioritizes functional seating arrangements that facilitate a direct and uncomplicated dining process for local regulars and visitors alike. This establishment remains a consistent destination for those seeking straightforward, satisfying meals focused on technique and quality ingredients without unnecessary culinary complexity.

Chez José Café is widely regarded as a charming and cozy Montreal staple known for its authentic Portuguese-inspired brunch, hearty portions, and vibrant, bohemian atmosphere. Many visitors praise the delicious menu items, particularly the breakfast plates, flavorful crepes, homemade sauces, and exceptional pastel de nata, often highlighting the friendly and welcoming nature of the staff. While the restaurant is frequently busy and guests should expect to wait for a table, most reviewers find the experience well worth the effort. I really thought brunch here was amazing. I had coffee, a fresh juice, & egg tart & the vegetarian crepe. Everything was awesome. It's the best egg tart I've had outside of Portugal. The waiter told me they have them brought in from a bakery in Ontario. It was warm inside in August as there is no AC but outside seating is cute.

Excellent place for brunch. I had the breakfast sandwich & hands down one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. I added the salad & potato's & they were excellent. Don't skip on it.

TIP: You can get on the waitlist on Yelp so you're already in the queue when you arrive to cutdown on the waiting

The best thing here is the atmosphere, they plan Latin merengue for some reason.

During my visit the staff was really helpful & friendly.

Food is delicious, homemade style sandwich & soup combo.

Highly recommend to pay the visit

We went solely on the high reviews, knowing nothing of the menu/venue. First impressions was that place was rather small & the decor reminded us of seaside bars in the Caribbean or South America. I ordered the Portuguese Breakfast & my wife had the Mexican Crêpe. We were absolutely blown away by the food - it's truly fantastic & the servings were plentiful. We still managed to clean off our plates. We would absolutely recommend this restaurant & will definitely return to try other items. It's also worth noting that my meal was served with what I think was homemade chipotle sauce - whatever it was, it was dang good!

We came for brunch. The wait was not long at all. The food was delicious & the service was impeccable. The weekend seafood soup is a must try. Sarah, the owner, was so sweet & efficient. I highly recommend!

Not worth visiting past 9pm, they close before advertised hours. I come here regularly & Chez Jose is an amazing place with super cozy & homey ambiance which has an incredible amount of charm & character. Most of the time the staff & service is absolutely excellent & I recommend this spot as a must visit Montreal gem.

I did however visit this Monday for a coffee & was directly & coldly told I should leave at 9:30 (30 mins before closing time). Not that I should stop ordering at 9:30, but that I should leave. I get that the staff wanted to close early & go home after a long day but the way this was done made it feel wrong even being there (bear in mind I got there around 8:45, over an hour before closing). There were also still plenty of customers there. Quite a shame & a shock to get this very tense unwelcoming vibe in a place where it's usually the complete opposite.

I will continue coming here because like I said, it's a Montreal gem. Just won't be visiting later in the evening anymore.
