Review Summary

Chez Jean-Paul is widely regarded as a hidden gem in Montreal, celebrated for its creative, innovative, and expertly executed tasting menus that rival high-end establishments. Many guests praise the farm-to-table approach, noting that the dishes feature surprising flavour combinations and impeccable technical precision, particularly regarding textures. While the majority of diners describe the atmosphere as intimate, cozy, and perfect for a memorable night out with attentive service, some visitors have reported inconsistencies, citing concerns about slow service pacing, confusing menu explanations, or occasional discomfort related to restaurant temperature and acoustics. Despite a few mixed experiences regarding the depth of the dessert menu or logistical details, most patrons express great enthusiasm for the culinary journey and frequently recommend the restaurant as a must-visit destination.

This place deserves a michelin star.

Chez Jean Paul was the first restaurant on our visit to Montreal that exceeded our expectations by far. Both my partner & I are quite critical & there was several courses & pairings which we deemed flawless.

The sardine Dill chicarones were laughably good. I couldn't stop smiling when I ate this dish. The eggplant pana cotta & pairing was perfect. Ive never had better sweet breads in my life. I could go through the whole menu & give almost identical feedback- 11/10

Our server/somm was so friendly & excited about the menu. That speaks volumes! When the service team is educated & excited, it just elevates the entire experience. It's clear that the comrodory & morale amongst the FOH & BOH team is shared.

See you in the top 5, Canada's best restaurants very soon

10/10 food, drink parings, experience

For such a small team the quality being sent out is impressive. The dishes are fun, balanced, & well thought out. All the wine pairings complemented the dish in their own way while still standing out alone. Service went smoothly.

The only criticism is that I wish the dessert menu was more robust. There were good fresh & palate cleansing dishes but for me, it was missing something more rich or decadent to end the meal.

It was an absolute pleasure to dine here & I can't wait to be back & see what new things the team does.

We were 4 & tried every item on the menu. Everything was great & tasted amazing including the bread. The mocktails were also very special.

The staff is very nice & the inside is clean & comfortable. The only complaint is that the service is very slow so we had time to digest everything before the next dish came. Although, they did warn us beforehand that the service is a little slow but they can accomodate if we were in a rush.
