A wonderful experience. The house red, cheese & vegetarian momos, & danish were favorites.
Get a special, either one, & be prepared to take your time & enjoy a large & delicious meal!
Lhasa Chicken (in the sauce) is amazing! The beef momos are also amazing, better than the chicken ones imo. The cheese momo is amazing & has a bit of sweetness. Yogurt smoothie (sweet) is great as well.
Chez Gatsé Restaurant Tibétain is a hidden spot nestled on Montréal's Ontario Street offering an authentic taste of Tibetan cuisine that is both comforting & exotic. I had been eager to revisit this charming spot for some time, & my recent visit did not disappoint.
The restaurant is a quaint, family-run establishment that exudes warmth & character. Its unassuming exterior might make it easy to miss, but that would be a true loss for any food enthusiast. The intimate size of the dining area adds to its charm, creating a cozy atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. The decor is thoughtfully curated, with elements that evoke a Tibetan ambiance-think vibrant colors, traditional patterns, & subtle cultural touches that transport you to the Himalayas.
The menu at Chez Gatsé is impressively extensive, featuring a variety of dishes that showcase the rich flavors of Tibetan cuisine. From the classic Gatsé to the ever-popular Momos (steamed dumplings filled with beef, vegetables, or cheese), each dish is crafted with care & served with homemade sauces & spices.
While the flavors are undeniably delicious, I found the portion sizes to be on the smaller side. The price point, though not exorbitant, might feel slightly off for those with a hearty appetite. If you're someone who enjoys a larger meal, you may want to consider ordering an extra dish or two to fully satisfy your hunger.
The service at Chez Gatsé is another highlight. The staff is friendly, attentive, & always ready to assist with a smile. Their genuine warmth adds to the overall dining experience, making you feel welcomed & valued.
Chez Gatsé Restaurant Tibétain is a delightful spot for anyone looking to explore the flavors of Tibet in a cozy, family-friendly setting. While the portions may be modest, the quality of the food & the inviting atmosphere more than make up for it. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning patron, this restaurant promises a memorable culinary journey that's well worth the visit.
I came in last night with my spirits low from the day.. walking in felt like a much needed hug. It looks like a family-run restaurant just like our family's cafe, it was a nostalgic & sweet feeling. The food was simple yet unique plates such as the jasmine tea, chicken in gravy, lentil soup. Do get the cheese momo, we had to take one home for breakfast... I am very grateful to live close to this restaurant, I will be returning for more special meals & lovely service :)
I love this restaurant. The atmosphere is warm & peaceful, & the food is comforting. The vegetarian plate & butter tea are delicious. The cheese momo is so creamy & good. It heals me in this autumn wind, at a life moment that I almost tore up by reality. It reminds me of how comforting I walked here in the snow & enjoyed the food here last winter. It is autumn now, soon the leaves will all fall down & the sunless days will come, but walking here to enjoy the food is always comforting. Anyway, life is still endurable sometimes.
This is a fun spot serving some unique food. The interior is gorgeous but we ended up sitting outside on the patio with the nice weather going on. We got the Yeti course plates & enjoyed the variety & amount of food we got. The standout was the Cheese stuffed bun that was almost like a dessert. It was a really good meal & you can't beat the multi course meal for the price.
