Pros: Beautiful ambience & decor, good service, great selection of Mexican dishes some of which would be hard to find anywhere else.
Cons: It is of course the food why we came to this place. We really wanted to try Chile en nugada especially after reading the novel'Like Water for Chocolate'. & what a disappointment when it was served lukewarm. Asked the server & he said it was normal as they did not want us to burn ourselves. Yet the molcajete came extremely hot as expected! Also Chile en nugada came without pomegranate seeds which is a must in this recipe. Budget cuts?
& the molcajete mixte which costs $75 also speaks of budget cuts. It was missing the promised grilled cheese & nopales & had only a small quantity of beef, only 3 small tiger shrimps. It did have some cheap filler that looked like potato flautas.
Overall impression: mixed feelings, probably would not come back.
I don't know who give them 5 stars , we just came from this place , 4 peoples for brunch . Overpriced place . Says a buffet , but was nothing to eat , everything is cold , sweet chicken , no posole , service too long , I took frites but wasn't ketchup, Beautiful restaurant decor . . However, the service was slow & a little confused, but the servers ok.
I think those people never visit buffet choice because what they propose cost not more then 12$ . Very disappointed with menu ( absolutely different from picture ) & prices .Never come again & don't conseil to my friends . Wasting money ..
As a Mexican, discovering this place made me proud. From the decor to the service, everything reflects authentic Mexican culture. I went to brunch (must try ) with my partner & we were really happy to see our culture & gastronomy represented with such care & respect. Paisanos, let's support places like this!
If I could give extra credit stars I would. This restaurant deserves more than 5 stars. I am visiting a friend in Montreal from California. I never expected to experience fine Mexican cuisine. Casa Azul Montreal blew us away. The atmosphere is perfect for any occasion, but especially a date night I would say, it is incredible. Lots of space, amazing decor & indoor plants. My friend & I ordered: Tuetanos, Tamarind Margaritas, Limon Daiquiri, Passionfruit Mezcal drink, the Fried crispy tacos, & the enchiladas (mine pollo my friend's vegetarian). The staff were all friendly & attentive. The home made chili oil salsa was world class. I even got to meet the chef. He is humble & gracious & that man can cook. Words fall utterly short. You need to visit this restaurant if you want Mexican food in Montreal.
Excellent rapport qualité-prix!
Tout était délicieux, service sympathique & décor coloré!
On y retourne c'est certain!
Beautiful restaurant, well decorated. However, the service was slow & a little confused, but the servers were nice.
The big problem is that they are CHEAP! We ordered a ceviche mixto for $25, which was missing a lot of fish & shrimps, but the bigger issue is that we got 2 chips for the ceviche & when we asked for more chips, we were charged $3 more! Ridiculous! We also had fajitas & only got one tortilla. Again, this is on the cheap side.
The food is not bad, not excellent, but for the price, they have to realize that if they keep being cheap, they will not last. The drink were at best okay. Again, they were cheap on the tequila for the margarita. It tasted like a good juice.
Overall, the experience was disappointing.
Authentique cuisine mexicaine!!! Ambiance tranquille pour une tête à tête. Superbe beau décor. Service impeccable.
Nice place with an amazing decor & atmosphere. Food is delicious & visually appealing.
Fantastic service, the food was amazing & atmosphere was relaxing with beautiful Latin jazz playing softly in the background. The decor was also inspiring. We wish Casa Azul continued success.
Our team organized a taco evening at Casa Azul (20 people). We enjoyed every moment. The food was excellent & generous. The service was outstanding. They arranged the reception hall downstairs for us, & the decor was fantastic. They also provided us with a sound system & a microphone. This place is highly recommended for events.
Great location & the place is well decorated. There was a singer the night we went, which, I guess made a cozy atmosphere. Although, I believe they should invest their money elsewhere. Apart from these few good aspects, their were multiple issues. The food was bland. I had the chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce (Suizas). The sauce was ok, but the chicken was dry & unseasoned. Clearly our plates stayed way too long under the warmer, because the were at best lukewarm, but mostly cold. The service took way too long. We only had one pitcher of water & the waiter said he would get us a a refill but never did. They took forever to take our orders, almost at the point where we considered leaving. Making basic drinks (margarita) was a never ending task.
I believe they should rethink the whole experience if they want customer's fidelity. The reviews seemed to be good overall, but as always, read the good ones, but also the bads, because this is where you get the real tea.
Beautiful decor & warm & attentive staff. Well done.
The menu is amazing. Frida Kahlo & her art on every page.
Every flavor tells a story & every bite is an experience.
A taste you will remember, a service you will cherish.
Honestly, I will definitely go back.Ramona & Alin
This vibrant Mexican restaurant is a hidden gem-perfect for a fun & memorable night out. The lively, colourful atmosphere set the right tone for the evening. The food was delicious, with authentic Mexican dishes prepared with care, & the cocktails were top-notch. The service was friendly & attentive, & the thoughtful décor & small touches really added to the experience. Special thanks to our waiter & to Fatima. We had a wonderful time & will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
Super décor & ambiance décontractée. Les plats étaient tous délicieux. & recommandons la salsa de chile de arbol. Merci
Bref, beaucoup d'irritants. Il y a des restaurants à profusion dans le quartier qui sont franchement meilleurs & avec un meilleur rapport qualité prix. Je n'y retournerai pas.
We ordered the plate for 2. Absolutely delicious, we kept getting free samples of other items on the menu. The decoration is very well done, i also found the bathroom interesting, they offer feminine products & mints alongside with floss. Nice plate good staff & the pricing is decent
Between the atmosphere, the food & the service, it's hard to pick out what this place does best because everything has so much care & love put into it.
The place itself feels like Mexico, everything is decorated authentically & with love. Their menus tell the story of the inspiration behind the food & every inch of the place conveys culture, family & love.
The food was packed with flavor. Every bite is hand crafted to deliver a Mexican experience. The family behind this is clearly sharing their culture with intent & joy.
Pablo was an incredible server & took care of us with nice little attentions.
Overall it was an unforgettable experience that will keep us coming back. Thank you Pablo & the entire kitchen team at Casa Azul!
I had an amazing experience at Casa Azul. The space was beautifully decorated, including the menus! Our server, Pablo, was very kind & helpful & attentive to our needs. The food was delicious, drinks were phenomenal & I highly recommend the ceviche for seafood lovers, which was very fresh, tangy & well seasoned! Will definitely be back to try more things off the menu.
