I was very excited to try this restaurant because the decor was beautiful & I'm a huge fan of authentic Mexican food, which is what I thought I was going to get. Instead, I got an extremely plain & simple'dish' with every part lacking seasoning. I ordered the Pescadilla which was advertised as a fried taco dish, I was expecting a nice saucy quesadilla with some cheese & vegetable toppings. But the dish itself was plain white fish inside plain corn tortillas. With plain lettuce thrown on top & a bit of white cheese. Even the sauce on the side was a plain tomato type sauce that didnt even have spice. I was very confused as I see no universe in which this can be called'authentic' mexican food.
My partner also ordered the Fajita which only came with 2 tortillas along with a skillet of fajita filling & some sides, the beans & rice sides literally had no salt on them, just plain black beans.
This was a very disappointing & confusing experience & although I expect the cocktails must be good/a selling point, I won't be coming back to try them.
EDIT: The dish I ordered- Pescadilla- is supposed to be fried tortillas & not saucy & cheesy like a quesadilla, which I fully understand as Im researching what the dish is'supposed' to look like so I realize I had different expectations.
However, what I recieved at this restaurant was still the most bland & plain version of this dish. From what Im seeing in pictures from elsewhere there is supposed to be some sort of vegetable slaw or SOMETHING inside other than just plain fish.
Trying to justify that what you served is exactly what this dish is meant to be just isn't right. I agree, mexican food isn't meant to be unnecessarily salty, BUT there must be some flavour, & what I ate at this restaurant was very bland.
I came here for brunch with my friends & we had a really great experience overall. The food was absolutely delicious-everything we tried was flavorful, fresh, & very well prepared. You can really tell they put effort into the quality & presentation.
The place is beautiful & has a nice atmosphere, although it is quite small, so it can feel a bit crowded, especially during busy brunch hours.
The buffet is on the pricier side at $35 per person (plus taxes), & drinks are not included, which adds up. That said, I do think it's worth it for the quality of the food.
One thing that could definitely be improved is the service speed. The staff are very kind & friendly, but the system is a bit slow since you can't serve yourself-someone serves you, which creates long lines & waiting times.
Overall, despite a few downsides, I would still recommend this place for a tasty & enjoyable brunch experience!
Finally, a Mexican restaurant in Montreal that goes beyond tacos & celebrates the traditional cuisine - beautifully executed, elaborate dishes like moles, molcajete, & chiles en nogada, the kind of food that is so hard to find done right.
The drink selection is solid mezcal offering & cocktails that go well beyond basic margaritas.
Service is outstanding: attentive, quick, offered in three languages.
The ambiance is the perfect balance of authentic Mexican vibe without trying too hard. No unnecessary sophistication, just genuinely flavorful, carefully prepared food served in a warm, inviting setting.
A place you come to enjoy real Mexican cuisine, not a simplified version of it.
Pros: Beautiful ambience & decor, good service, great selection of Mexican dishes some of which would be hard to find anywhere else.
Cons: It is of course the food why we came to this place. We really wanted to try Chile en nugada especially after reading the novel'Like Water for Chocolate'. & what a disappointment when it was served lukewarm. Asked the server & he said it was normal as they did not want us to burn ourselves. Yet the molcajete came extremely hot as expected! Also Chile en nugada came without pomegranate seeds which is a must in this recipe. Budget cuts?
& the molcajete mixte which costs $75 also speaks of budget cuts. It was missing the promised grilled cheese & nopales & had only a small quantity of beef, only 3 small tiger shrimps. It did have some cheap filler that looked like potato flautas.
Overall impression: mixed feelings, probably would not come back.
I don't know who give them 5 stars , we just came from this place , 4 peoples for brunch . Overpriced place . Says a buffet , but was nothing to eat , everything is cold , sweet chicken , no posole , service too long , I took frites but wasn't ketchup, Beautiful restaurant decor . . However, the service was slow & a little confused, but the servers ok.
I think those people never visit buffet choice because what they propose cost not more then 12$ . Very disappointed with menu ( absolutely different from picture ) & prices .Never come again & don't conseil to my friends . Wasting money ..
Beautiful place to share with your friends or family, unfortunately the buffet is very small of options, the egg they gave me was cold, the chicharron in sauce was good but the sauce was very liquid, the ranchero beans are the same, rich but a lot of broth, the chilaquiles flat nor did I want to try them, the quesadillas were very watered, in short, the food has a 6 out of 10... & it was very strange for me that in the buffet service they served you was not much amount, asking if that's enough & the dishes were running out & they were late in filling, whenever I went to a buffet, I take what I want & as much as I want.
The restaurant is beautiful. The food was beautifully served, & tasted great. I highly recommend the enchiladas & the bone marrow appetizer.
Beautiful restaurant, well decorated. However, the service was slow & a little confused, but the servers were nice.
The big problem is that they are CHEAP! We ordered a ceviche mixto for $25, which was missing a lot of fish & shrimps, but the bigger issue is that we got 2 chips for the ceviche & when we asked for more chips, we were charged $3 more! Ridiculous! We also had fajitas & only got one tortilla. Again, this is on the cheap side.
The food is not bad, not excellent, but for the price, they have to realize that if they keep being cheap, they will not last. The drink were at best okay. Again, they were cheap on the tequila for the margarita. It tasted like a good juice.
Overall, the experience was disappointing.
Rude & inflexible manager!!!
The girl server is so sweet, we came here before & she treated us nicely. However, the guy manager doesn't qualify for his job at all. We arrive at an empty restaurant, planned to have a big meal quick before our show, & we wanted to be seated at the table for 4. The table is more beautiful, & we think that with the amount of food we're going to order it's better to have a slightly bigger table. But the rude manager refuse to let us use the table, like accommodating for his guests' need is a sin. Instead, he repeats like a broken robot that the table can only be used for 4people. The restaurant is empty & we will leave in less than 30mins, the guy doesn't know how to manage a restaurant & very inexperienced. The owner will suffer because kind of service he provides.
Bad experience, they should fire the amateur & promote the girl!!
