In addition to being the emblematic animal of Quebec, we were so called "the Caribou" during our visits to France, that it was obvious to borrow the name from this large deer.

I've been to Caribou Gourmand several times in the past for brunch (the first time was nearly 2 years ago for the cabane à sucre menu) & really enjoyed the food & always received good service even when the place was packed, which is why I suggested going there for brunch with my friends yesterday. The service was incredibly slow - they were busy enough since it was Saturday, but not every table was full - the problem is there were only two servers. Took several minutes for anyone to arrive at the front to seat us, & getting refills for water or coffee was extremely slow. Slow service I can forgive if they were understaffed that day, it happens. Servers were at least very nice.
That aside, I was so disappointed by the food. My partner & I both had the Caribou plate, & everything was so bland & already cold when it came out. Had to ask for salt for the eggs & pulled pork. Even my toast was like cardboard. The only thing on the plate I really enjoyed was the sausage. Yes, it's a lot of meat, but for the quality & lack of flavor, it was very overpriced.
Unfortunately, we will probably not return given the decline in quality from the last 2 times we went here for brunch. I hate giving out reviews lower than 4 stars, & I try to be as fair as possible, but I can't really recommend this restaurant anymore.

We reserved a table for brunch with family members visiting from out of town. The plates were generous portions & the coffee was decent. My relatives got some beers to accompany their brunch & they loved the selection. My only suggestion would be to offer at least 1 small breakfast option (like a 2 eggs + 1 meat & potatoes choice) for the lighter eaters, unless you allow people to build plates with extras only (wasn't sure since, the menu says "to add to your meal") Overall, I recommend! Good place for young kids too.
Merci

Updates: the second visit has a huge difference compared to the first. The waitress said they have changed the menu, so what we had before was not on the menu anymore. But we were still expecting good food from their new menu. Unfortunately, the food we got was very ordinary, no spark & boring. They don't have the amazing seasoning & presentation anymore, I can bet you can have the same food somewhere else, or easily copy the dish at home & even do it better. Even the portion is disappointing. They used to give 2 French toasts as add-on sides, now they only give one.. I asked the waitress if they have a new chef, she replied that they only changed the menu, same person running the kitchen. I just don't understand how their tastes & style change that much. I don't think the person cooking have the same level of enthusiasm anymore. The experience made me so sad, because it was at the 1st place of my brunch list. & the pistachio latte is a joke, taste like water & milk. 1st review(5 stars):Weather is good, we seat at the patio. Food is AMAZINGLY GOOD, they definitely deserve a 5 star review. For sure will be back for more tasty food.
Service & ambiance supers sympathiques!
They don't like detailed reviews. Had a 4 course/MTL table meal. Service was friendly & professional. Overall meal, barely a 6/10, mostly for blandness & the temperatures dishes were served at. Would not go back. Appetizer plate delicate, 3 tiny morsels. I liked the duck (8/10) & goat cheese (7/10), but the creme brulee failed (4/10), it was sprinkled with too much sugar, which was soggy, not crystallized. I guess they failed to notice &/or forgot to'brulee'- like a wet egg omelette. The seafood bisque (6/10) was not creamy or smooth like a bisque but was rustic - nice but it was served tepid. I almost sent it back to have it heated but was too hungry. Served in a pretty little bowl, 2 mussels, 2 shrimp with the'bisque' but lacked any depth of flavor. The salmon (3/10) as the main course had zero flavour profile to speak of - plus it was undercooked & almost raw. I love sushi, so I ate it, but again, a barely warm plate. The skin was soft & grey & had a slight fishy taste - not so ok. The risotto was very pasty & salty. I told the waitress but she didn't seem to understand & did nothing about it. My son had the Deer Burger (7/10) good but dry. He had to add quite a bit of the mayo to it. Fries with it were good. The desserts are relatively big. My son made the observation that he'd prefer bigger mains & not so much sugar. The Raspberry mousse cloud (7/10) was v pretty, but too much overly sweet meringue. I like pure whipped cream but this had too much added sugar/filler. The maple dessert (7/10) was very creamy, similar to the cream on the Raspberry. The table next to us had the hazelnut which I think I'd have preferred. Would likely rate higher if had our food been served warm & if there had been more flavour than just salt.
I attended my company's Christmas party here, & it was absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere, service, & overall experience were amazing. If you're considering this place for an event or a night out, don't hesitate-just go! Highly recommend!
