My wife & I ate here to celebrate her upcoming birthday. Let me say, what a delight from start to finish. We arrived when it was very busy & only the only available seats were at the bar. No problem for us! I ordered the Steak Frites with tempered expectations & was blown away by the quality of my meal. Not only was my steak cooked a perfect medium rare but I haven't had a steak so sumptuous in quite some time. After dinner we stuck around & had a few cocktails which were prepared in front of us & ultimately went down perhaps a little too easily! Next time we are in Montreal we will be back!
I came to Montreal for the history, the architecture, the culture, & the short track speed skating world championships… but I stayed for the dirty martinis at Brasserie 701.
Enter Shady - bartender, mixology wizard, & the only man I've ever seen shake a cocktail with the quiet confidence of Patrick Mahomes in the fourth quarter. The resemblance is uncanny. If Mahomes ever needs an offseason job, I'm convinced he's already been moonlighting behind this bar.
As a Toronto girl, I take my martinis very seriously. Shady served me two of the most delicious dirty martinis I've ever had with some potent local gin. Perfectly chilled, perfectly salty, & strong enough to make me briefly consider moving to Montreal permanently.

If you find yourself at Brasserie 701, do yourself a favour: ask Shady for a dirty martini. Just be warned - you'll probably end up ordering a second one. I certainly did. 🍸
We spent Valentine's Day at Brasserie 701, & it was the absolute highlight of our evening in the Old Port. The atmosphere was perfectly romantic, but what truly set the night apart was the incredible team taking care of us.
A massive shoutout to Shady & Felix behind the bar, their service was impeccable. They were attentive, fast, & added a great energy to the night while making sure every detail was handled. It's rare to find staff that can balance a busy holiday crowd with such genuine, personalized care, but the entire team here made it look easy.
As for the food: the Filet Mignon was cooked to absolute perfection, incredibly tender & flavorful. We also had the Duck Entree, which was rich, beautifully presented, & easily one of the best dishes we've had in a long time.
If you're looking for a spot that combines a stunning historic setting with top-tier service & a menu that delivers, this is it. Thank you, Shady & Felix, for making our Valentine's Day so memorable. We'll definitely be back!
We had a very good breakfast, with fair prices considering it's located inside the Place d'Armes Hotel & right in front of Notre Dame. We ordered avocado toast, forest omelette, & chicken waffle, all were enjoyable. The service was good, although they were short-staffed during our visit, which was noticeable.
The bar is very high in Montreal, so I save a 5-star rating for truly exceptional experiences.
I decided to have some lunch at this french restaurant in Montreal & I was blewn away by the freshness & flavor of the food!
The service here was great. I chose bar seating as I was for one, because of this I had a chance to interact with a few of the service team & they were able to help me decide what to try on the menu! They were also very friendly, accommodating & relatable!
This was my first time having beef tartare & let me tell you, I'm so glad I tried it here & not anywhere else! The flavors of the tartare were elegant but bold & blended together so smoothly in every bite. If your having any thoughts about trying the beef tartare, I recommend!

Cuisine française authentique, nous avons pris le filet de bar ainsi que le steak frites cuisson parfaite telle que demandée. bravo au Chef!

It started last evening when the bartender totally ignored us trying to order drinks. Just continued to wash glasses. We got up & left. Then this morning, they had no croissants. Vieux Montreal is loaded with them. Will try the roof for a drink this evening, but if that crashes & burns, that's it. They can do better.

It was amazing, specially the service. Jiang & Victor did super great at the bar. They helped us a lot & never make us feel like we were bothering. They were even willing to try new coffee recipes according to our preferences. I truly appreciate it.
We are in Montreal for a few days for a concert & found awesome reviews on Reddit so we figured we'd give it a try. Not only was the Benedict one of the best I've ever had (duck benny) the service was exceptional. Jiang & Victor made us specialty coffees & mimosas & they were all delicious!! They were so kind & patient with us (language barrier). Will definitely come again!

It was so nice watching him making the drinks & he was very friendly! I will definitely come back when I am in Montreal.
Service très inattentif, beaucoup de temps pour préparer des cocktails (plus de 15 mins avec une salle vide), personne pour vérifier si c'est à notre goût, personne pour recommander un verre alors que les nôtres sont bien vide depuis un moment & qu'on essaie d'attirer l'attention d'un serveur. Deuxième cocktails, autant d'attente, 10 mins pour nous dire qu'il manquait un ingrédient. Le barman était plus occupé à discuter avec les clients au bar que faire nos cocktails. Nous étions les seuls à commander à boire (fin de brunch). Obligé de demander la facture au comptoir. Pas un au revoir quand on croise les serveurs en partant.
Bref, jolie place, bons cocktails, mais très mauvaise expérience de service.
My mom & I stayed at the hotel where this restaurant is located & decided to stop by the bar for a couple of drinks. (So glad we did!) The host greeted us warmly & seated us at the bar. Our bartender, a friendly & attentive young gentleman named Shady, provided excellent service. He recommended the duck confit & crafted some incredible drinks-trust his recommendations if you ever have the chance! The service was amazing, & I would definitely come back (:
A solid option to chill while it's freezing outside or just to rest after a long day of sightseeing. We came here on a Monday, quite late for lunch. In between lunch & dinner they got a reduced menu that has a little bit for everyone. There are plenty of tables around, so you can choose easily, the dining room is absolutely amazing, along with the huge windows that bring some light into the place.
There are two reasons why I gave it 4 stars,
First it took quite a bit of time to prepare 2 martinis we had ordered, up to the point where I wasn't sure if I had ordered them anymore.. after arrived they were ok prepared but were tiny (which hurts a bit at 17CAD +tax +tip)… after mentioning this to the bartender for the second round, he got his measurements right & this time the cocktails were on point & just perfect before flying the whole night afterwards.
Second, the burger we ordered was fine, with great quality ingredients & well prepared fries… but the meat was on the less intense flavor side & quite overcooked. But the cheese, vegetables & sauces were on point & really hit the spot.
It's a place that I would come back if the opportunity comes, it has a good atmosphere & the service while not perfect it's authentic, relatable & they care about the service they provide which is something that can always be noticed & appreciated.
We had two visits to this bar inside the Hotel Place d'Armes, one was for an afternoon cocktail & a snack- the charcuterie was simple & a good size for pre-dinner snacking. The bartender John was nice to chat with. Then we popped in for breakfast, generous portions & served quickly. We were very pleased with breakfast & a mimosa to end our vacation stay.
