Geweldig restaurant, vriendelijke ontvangst.

Restaurant Bonaparte is nice but unremarkable-nothing I ate was offensive, but nothing really impressed me.
Cocktail options are fun, & the cream of mushroom soup was very good. The plating on the entrees seemed a little tacky & unrefined. The lamb was well cooked & had good texture, though lacked flavor to me, & the chicken with brie similarly tasted like… chicken & brie, & nothing else. The duck was pretty good though in a very sweet sauce.
The desserts were standard, the chocolate mousse was a little disappointing as it didnt taste like they used real chocolate in it as opposed to powder, & was simply piped into a bowl.
The interior ambiance is very nice, & the service was good. While I think the food here is good, I believe there are better options around both for flavor & presentation of dishes
The best restaurant i visit in Montreal, location, atmosphere, service & food all better than many Michelin starred restaurants I have visit before, the'Tasting Menu' was fantastic!

I had been looking forward to trying Bonaparte for quite some time, especially during MTLàTABLE, but unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations.
It took over an hour for our first course to arrive, which immediately set a disappointing tone for the evening. When I mentioned the delay twice, the response I received was far from professional - instead of an apology or a gesture of goodwill, I was simply told,'I already told you it's coming.' For a restaurant with such a strong reputation, that lack of courtesy was truly surprising.
As for the food, it was uneven. The lobster bisque was fine but nothing remarkable. The salad was very bitter & in general lacked flavor, almost bland. The goat cheese was enjoyable, & the terrine was decent though not memorable. The lamb & the salmon mousse were good. The beef was tough & difficult to chew, while the pork was tender & well-prepared. The desserts followed the same pattern - the carrot cake was pleasant, but the chocolate mousse felt ordinary.
Overall, the evening was disappointing. After such a long wait & indifferent service, the experience did not live up to Bonaparte's reputation or my expectations. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning.

Service is excellent & food is great. We really enjoyed the duck leg & duck breast. Chocolate chips soufflé takes 20min so order ahead. Convenient location from the Notre Dame.
Atmosphere:
pretty cool for an old building.
Feels like eating at a Downton Abbey type of establishment. Not a huge place but enough to be cozy.
Tables are tightly placed & it can get quite warm & loud in there, but that's the perks of older buildings ☺?
Service:
super excellent & cared for every detail. They made us feel welcomed & staff was friendly & attentive to our needs. 🤩
Food:
Maybe the chef that night (Oct 31 2025) was not around or something was off, the food overall lacked proper seasoning. Presentation was so-so. Perhaps the menu or chef needs an overhaul or reinvent something to bring the spark back. 😕
Overall very good restaurant but lagging a bit behind compared to other venues.
Still worth a try…but not for a special occasion
This was our second time & Restaurant Bonaparte does not disappoint. Always creative & delicious appetizers & mains. Juicy lamb chops, perfectly cooked meal... all was extraordinary. Excellent wine list.
I came to Restaurant Bonaparte to celebrate my partner's birthday & other life events. We were met with lovely staff who made us feel welcome despite our younger age & inexperience with fancier dining. We tried the tasting menu with wine pairing & we're not disappointed. The rabbit & lamb are phenominal, as well as the cheesecake. Would recommend this spot to any couple looking to celebrate over a fantastic dinner.
