don't listen to the butter chicken brainrot & botted reviews.
appreciate that they're open late but recommend against the vindaloo here
it's not like vindaloo I've had anywhere else, it's a weird sour bright red glorp that doesn't taste right. spice is ok but it tastes like someone forgot what vindaloo is & winged it. it was hard to extract the dry lamb cubes from this bad taste
as other reviews say, delivery was extremely salty & hard to want to get through
the garlic naan is also kinda gross, it's not slathered with garlic ghee or anything it just has crumbly garlic'powder' or residue on it? bad texture experience. much prefer tadoori delicious
edit: suspicious review practices from low review accounts seem to be struggling to keep this place above four stars... follow the Google rules...
Best Indian restaurant in mtl must try butter chicken & chicken tikka & garlic naan 😘
After having eaten at (& been very impressed by) the Bombay Mahal Parc-Ex location earlier this weekend, I thought I'd give the NDG location a try as I live in the neighbourhood & would love to find a local Indian restaurant of similar quality.
I ordered the chicken vindaloo along with steamed rice, naan, & an appetizer of lentil dhal. The first thing I noticed was the prices punched in by the staff member were much higher than what was advertised on their website. When I mentioned this he altered the price, though the total was still more than if I had simply ordered on Uber Eats for pick-up. I am not sure if this was an honest mistake, or a blatant attempt at an upcharge, but it certainly wasn't the best way to start my dining experience. If the chicken vindaloo is indeed $16, the $12 listing on the website should be updated.
The food arrived quickly & the table service was fine. The inclusion of a free bottle of water & disappointingly bland vindaloo cannot help but lead me to suspect that I might have received the'Gora version' of the dish. I include this in my review in case anyone else with a light complexion likes their vindaloo spicy & visits this restaurant... just be sure to ask for the full spice when ordering.
I'm not normally one to fuss about atmosphere, but in comparison to the Parc-Ex location I feel compelled to mention it. While that spot is bright, bustling, & clean. This location had uncleared tables, somewhat dour staff, & a generally uncaring vibe.
With several other Indian restaurants within walking distance on Sherbrooke, unfortunately my search for one to visit consistently as a local will have to continue.
Best indian food in montreal hands down must try & must go at least one time the garlic naan, chicken chilli ,butter chicken & lamb korma top tier so good & chicken biryani is the BEST
The vegetarian thali is outstanding value for delicious & generous amounts of food. The eggplant dish & veggie curry were delightfully flavourful, & the naan was hot & pull-apart doughy.
The service was very friendly & welcoming.
Bombay Mahal is a beloved spot for authentic & affordable Indian cuisine. This no-frills, BYOB restaurant is known for its flavorful dishes, generous portions, & warm service. Standout menu items include butter chicken, chaat papri, & freshly baked naan. With a great balance of spice & authenticity, it's a go-to destination for both vegetarians & meat lovers. If you're looking for a satisfying Indian meal in Montreal, Bombay Mahal won't disappoint!
Service is A1 As fast as it gets & they are really nice too always give extra Lassi or Gulab Jamun Food is delicious, especially considering the price Great, taste, always fresh Naan Thank you:)
Update July 2024: This place definitely changed owner/management. Now it sucks. From the rudest attitude of the woman with glasses serving, to the food & the lack of taste. We used to eat here every week because it was delicious & the workers were so nice. They even knew what we liked. Now, all of that has disappeared. Instead, we have a rude woman who served whatever she wanted without asking. & she got so annoyed when I refused to take what she dumped on our plates. No tamarind sauce. No taste & just dry chicken. If you want to lose customers, you are in the right direction. Deeply disappointed. -/---------------- I just ate there & is delicious. At first glance I thought it was some fast food joint & I kept walking. But nothing convinced me over Sherbrooke west so I went back to the Bombay & wow! The chicken tandoori with spinach & other spicy green sauce was awesome. The naans were hot & buttery. The salad was fresh & help a bit with this spicy & delicious plate. Definitely, I will return to try something else.
