After having eaten at (& been very impressed by) the Bombay Mahal Parc-Ex location earlier this weekend, I thought I'd give the NDG location a try as I live in the neighbourhood & would love to find a local Indian restaurant of similar quality.
I ordered the chicken vindaloo along with steamed rice, naan, & an appetizer of lentil dhal. The first thing I noticed was the prices punched in by the staff member were much higher than what was advertised on their website. When I mentioned this he altered the price, though the total was still more than if I had simply ordered on Uber Eats for pick-up. I am not sure if this was an honest mistake, or a blatant attempt at an upcharge, but it certainly wasn't the best way to start my dining experience. If the chicken vindaloo is indeed $16, the $12 listing on the website should be updated.
The food arrived quickly & the table service was fine. The inclusion of a free bottle of water & disappointingly bland vindaloo cannot help but lead me to suspect that I might have received the'Gora version' of the dish. I include this in my review in case anyone else with a light complexion likes their vindaloo spicy & visits this restaurant... just be sure to ask for the full spice when ordering.
I'm not normally one to fuss about atmosphere, but in comparison to the Parc-Ex location I feel compelled to mention it. While that spot is bright, bustling, & clean. This location had uncleared tables, somewhat dour staff, & a generally uncaring vibe.
With several other Indian restaurants within walking distance on Sherbrooke, unfortunately my search for one to visit consistently as a local will have to continue.
Their service is quite poor, & it took a long time for the food to be prepared. Compared to the Indian restaurants nearby, their overall quality is noticeably lower. This is, of course, my personal opinion based on my own experience.
I really enjoyed eating at Bombay Mahal Restaurant. The taste was very good. The ambiance was also very good. The people are very friendly & their food quality is also very good
The people working were so kind. They care about providing quality service for quality food. My local spot for Indian cuisine & it's a gem!
The Lamb Vindaloo here is amazing. Very spicy, savoury, & delicious. I originally found this place on delivery apps, but I've since dined in a couple of times over the past 2 years, & the table service has improved immensely since the first time I came. I've tried several other Indian restaurants, & Bombay Mahal might not have the flashiest decor or the largest interior, but the food quality is unparalleled, & so consistent. This is my favourite local restaurant, & I'll be coming back often.
Dined in with family. Excellent food with, both quality & quantity. Specially the butter chicken & chicken biriyani! Would definitely recommend if you're in Montreal!
Incredible Indian food for vegetarians & for meat eaters. AMAZING price. The value, quality, the care & service by the staff. The food was served beautifully, hot, generous portion. I love that they have soup & appetizers & so much variety. Will come here again & again. Highly recommend 💙👍🏻 PS - the garlic naan was incredible & I actually prefer how thin & crispy it was unlike some reviews. One order was enough for two people & was only 3 or so dollars.
