Some date back decades, some are brand new on the cuisine scene. Bocca Di Lupo is one of those new establishments but if you told me it had been here forever I'd believe you. The space is elegant but not pretentious. Cozy but not crowded. Bustling with energy but not so loud you have to shout to your dinner guests. The food is incredible. We ate Family Style - which gave us the chance to try more dishes & experience so many more awesome flavours. The salads were bright & fresh, the calamari not over battered or oily. The pasta was on point. But the star of the show was the branzino! Perfect texture, unbelievable flavour! A must try! 10/10 recommend! But above all else - the experience was weaved together by the amazing service. We walked in & were treated like regulars on our first night. The whole staff was incredibly welcoming & friendly which made us feel at home. Our server Naïza was a real star - bright & knowledgeable & sharp & funny - she treated us like family. She really made the experience extra special for us. We will absolutely be back & will steer our friends this way when they visit this beautiful part of Montreal!
I usually don't give bad reviews so please be patient with me!
Writing as I'm still sitting at the table. We were a group of 10 & they forced upon us a group menu. Half of the group is Muslim therefore we don't eat pork. That isn't a problem usually because we just pick whichever meal doesn't contain pork in it. But what we didn't know is that all the meals are shared & the options for non-porc eaters were very underwhelming. No one told us that before starting to give us the meals! Paying the same amount as the others & not being able to have the same experience is kinda sad in my opinion.
Furthermore, the pasta were either too cooked (the gnocchi) or almost raw (caccio & peppe). All the meals were very salty. Since the group menu have shared meals, we were served 2 plates of each options, which meant 6-8 plates for 9-10 people. Needless to say that we are leaving the restaurant very hungry 😅
Finally, the reservation process was also a hassle. The policy cannot let us cancel less than 48h before the day of the dinner, but they wouldn't send us the group menus even if we called many times! We received it 24h before the dinner day & just had to live with it.
All & all the ambiance is nice, but I wished i could've just chose my meal. It's a very high price for such a bad experience meal wise. I wouldn't recommend bringing a group here. Please only come as a date or 4 people & less!!!
The service here was amazing, the staff was attentive & kept making sure we were taken care of.
However, the portions are small & items are overpriced. A soda is $9 & they charge for a refill. The pastas are hit or miss & truly depends on what you order.
If you go here I'd suggest just sharing a few small appetizers.
Stumbled into this place on accident & wow it was such a treat. My partner & I had a few cocktails, the beef carpaccio, focaccia, & two incredible pasta dishes. Highly recommend to anyone in the area. Service & vibes were outstanding.
Had a drink & pasta both were incredible! Service was on point & very friendly. Quick & attentive service was a nice change of place to some places in Montreal.
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, vibrant, & authentically Italian without trying too hard. The service was flawless, attentive, knowledgeable, & genuinely passionate about the food & wine.
Every dish was outstanding. The ingredients were clearly top quality, & the execution was spot on: simple, refined, & full of flavour. You can really feel the regional Italian influence in every plate, with a menu that changes often & keeps things exciting.
The pasta was a highlight...perfectly cooked & beautifully balanced. Pair that with an excellent wine list & thoughtful recommendations from the staff, & the whole experience just comes together seamlessly.
It's rare to find a place that delivers at this level across the board-food, service, atmosphere-all top tier. Easily one of the best Italian meals I've had.
Highly recommend, & I'll definitely be back.
AMAZING experience here!! Everyone was genuinely so nice & accommodating. The food was absolutely incredible, the food was all super fresh & pasta tastes so authentic to that I've had in Italy. My favorite was definitely the steak, it just melts in your mouth & was cooked to perfection. Can't wait to go back.
The perfect mix of traditional Italian authentic cuisine in an upscale atmosphere.
The calamari pasta 10/10
We will be back!
Ambiance:
A beautiful exterior of a corner heritage building with an impressive entry. Sat at the bar which was comfortable & cosy.
Main room seemed lively, with a bright bar area at the front & tables proceeding down the room, flanked by an open kitchen. The two bar seats we had were comfortable & not too cramped, with solid stools but no under counter hangers for bags. Service:
Initially was very friendly with a warm welcome & a laid back approach to get things started. Unfortunately it detiorated from there.
Drinks:
A small selection of specialty cocktails plus an even smaller offering of wines by the glass. I had a 5oz glass of an Italian Chardonnay which cost $19 (bottle retail is under $30). Small wine list - chose an Antinori Chianti Reserve which incurred an acceptable 200% markup.
Food:
Starters were a beef carpaccio, which was small for $28 but exceptional quality & taste.
Beet salad with blood orange & ricotta sounded better than it tasted. The ricotta was piped around the salad & tasted more like a Kraft cream cheese.
Also ordered was home made focaccia which was exceptional with a high quality EVOO liberally poured over top.
Mains:
Not so good. Dishes ordered:
Cappelli with rapini & sausage:
Pasta very al-dente with no spiciness from the sausage. Very bland & stodgy.
Chicken Saltamboca: Chicken was way too thick & tasted like a fried chicken breast wrapped in tasteless prosciutto. The sauce was equally bland with a few sprigs of tasteless sage.
Potatoes: acceptable but boring
Dessert: Not taken
Overall experience:
Started well but deteriorated over the evening with it becoming a really clique atmosphere developing between owners (?) & their friends, which created a non-inclusive environment for the minority at the bar.
Admittedly it's a new venture & will take a lot more staff training, but there needs to be a more overall professional approach to be taken. Less of the'buddy' atmosphere & more attention to creating solid regulars who you'll need to become your bread & butter later on.
Good luck guys - unfortunately we won't be coming back.
Memorable evening & can't wait to return! Very authentic, hand-made fresh pasta (worth the cheat meal), beautifully decorated & very affordable! Looking forward to my next visit 🍝😁
