About

Biiru operates as a distinctive Japanese bistro focusing on an approachable fusion of traditional techniques and modern casual culinary styles. The menu highlights shareable plates including crispy gyoza, karaage, and seasoned skewers that pair directly with a selection of Japanese beers and sake. A compact interior creates an intimate atmosphere defined by minimalist wood accents and wall-mounted art that mirrors contemporary urban Japanese aesthetics. Diners find a consistent emphasis on bold umami flavors rather than complex experimental preparation methods. Small table arrangements facilitate social interactions while maintaining an efficient pace throughout the service duration. This establishment maintains a functional layout that prioritizes high turnover and accessibility for patrons seeking recognizable regional staples. The culinary focus remains steadfast on providing reliable textures and authentic ingredient profiles within an uncomplicated, fast-paced environment suited for casual groups.

Review Summary

Biiru is widely celebrated as a standout destination in downtown Montreal, offering a vibrant and welcoming izakaya experience that captures the essence of Japanese fusion cuisine. Many guests praise the diverse menu, particularly highlighting the tasting menus, candied salmon, ribs, and okonomiyaki as consistently delicious highlights. The atmosphere is frequently described as charming, cozy, and energetic, with a beautifully decorated terrace that adds to the overall appeal. While some visitors find the space bustling or note that portion sizes can be smaller, the vast majority commend the attentive, professional, and friendly service provided by the staff. Whether visiting for a casual date, a celebratory dinner, or a quick bite before a show, diners often express a strong desire to return for the quality of food, the upbeat vibe, and the memorable hospitality.

Out of five dishes, all were delicious. We could tell that even the most seemingly simple was done with attention to detail. The was a highlight. Last time, Manu took care of us at the bar. She added a whole layer of enjoyment to the show with her hospitality, A while back, I had to leave the restaurant before ordering because of a work emergency, The staff was completely understanding, were very warm, & invited me to return soon. Which I did. Go to Biiru. Have fun!

I loved the food! One of my favorite things about this place is that you can order small portions of different dishes, which makes it easy to try a variety of flavors instead of committing to just one meal. They also offer full-sized portions if you prefer a larger serving of a single dish.
The terrace is super cute & creates a lovely atmosphere to enjoy your meal. If you enjoy Japanese food & want to sample a variety of dishes, I highly recommend this place!

I went to Biiru during my trip to Montreal because my friend suggested the place. She's been there a couple of times before & liked the food so she wanted me to try it to while we're in town. It was a Thursday night & we tried to get a last minute reservation online but there's no table available for 7:30 pm on the system. But we did get lucky with walk-in though because they actually have a table available for us at the outdoor area.

We decided to order a bunch of dishes to share between the two of us & here are some of my favorites from our meal:

🍵 Matcha Matcha • 8/10
I ordered the Matcha Matcha mocktail. Nice matcha, not too strong, not too bitter, not too sweet. It has a nice earthy taste.

🍽? Korn Korokke • 7.5/10
The croquettes were nicely fried & the curry wasn't too strong.

🥟 Pork Gyoza • 8/10
Great pork gyoza. The gyoza skin wasn't too thick & the pork was flavorful.

🍽? Kaisen Don • 8/10
The Kaisen Don was pretty good. It tasted fresh & & light.

All & all, although I liked some of the dishes better than the others, the food overall was pretty good for a modern Japanese fusion izakaya spot. Service was great & the staff who waited our table was nice. The noise level at this place was pretty high since it is a drinking place.

If you're looking for a good Japanese fusion izakaya spot with great drinks menu & lively atmosphere in Montreal, this place is worth to try.

Amazing restaurant with so many delicious choices! The portions are on the smaller side, so I'd recommend ordering 2-3 dishes per person. The outdoor patio is lovely & the service was excellent. Big thanks to the staff!

I really liked the outside patio, it's well covered in case it rains. The waiters take good care of you & are kind. The only downside is the food portions are a bit small, you have to take around 3 dishes per person if you want to get full & it can get expensive quickly. Also the food could be more authentic but I understand that the place is more of a fusion restaurant.

This Izakaya style restaurant has good atmosphere with lively mood. We stopped by to have a dinner, they served tapas style, small dishes. Compared to the price tag, I would say it was a bit overpriced & the quality of the food was just meh.

Great izakaya in downtown montreal, most of the dishes are fairly prices. Super cozy atmosphere with a nice covered terrace that is warmed up when it's colder outside.

We've been looking for an Izakaya to go for a while Biiru was a great surprise! We made a reservation & we got the table at the terrace. The decoration is super nice, the staff are friendly & we had such a good time there!
The dishes were delicious, specially the Okonomiyaki (10/10) & the Beef Tataki (10/10).
We'll definitely be coming back!
