March 7th
My wife & I decided to go to Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar because we didn't feel like driving all the way into Montreal for a decent rib steak. Big mistake.
The place wasn't even busy, yet the service was already off from the start. Our waiter,'Steph' didn't even bother introducing himself until I asked. Basic service 101. When you approach a table, you present yourself. What is this new trend of servers acting like they're too good to do the bare minimum?
He asked if we wanted tap or sparkling water. I said tap is fine with an iced tea & ordered a gin & club soda on the side. The drink shows up & it's completely bare. No lemon, no lime, no garnish, nothing. Zero effort, zero presentation. & if you see a piece of lemon in the picture, that's only because I had to ask for it myself.
We ordered crab cakes as appetizers, & wow… the portion was laughably small. This isn't some high-end fine dining spot where tiny plates are expected, it's a steakhouse. On top of that, there was a napkin on the floor near our table that staff, including a manager in a dark grey blazer, kept walking past & ignoring for over an hour. Not a huge deal on its own, but details matter. This isn't supposed to be some low-standard place.
Then the rib steak came. I asked for medium. What I got was closer to rare. Unless you think I'm a Viking who eats raw meat, that's unacceptable.
To finish it off, the bartender clearly doesn't know how to make a proper layered liquor coffee, even though it's presented that way on the menu. The waiter tried to cover for it by saying,'it's hard to make.' That's not an excuse. It's literally part of the job, just like cooking a steak properly.
We also ordered the apple pecan dessert. I even told the waiter to warm it up in the oven, not because it's complicated, but because the menu clearly shows it served in a cast iron dish, so obviously it's not meant to come out of a microwave. Instead, it came out cold & hard as a rock, in this case he ignored & was lazy.
& somehow, I still left a 20 pts, not because it was deserved, but to prove that money isn't the issue here. This was just bad service, plain & simple. Normally I'd give a nice $2 tip at the end with passion but luckily for him I had elsewhere to go that night. Already, he rolled his eyes for the coffee liquor.
If the owner is reading this, talk to your team. & I clearly said the owner not the manager who walked past a napkin. This was a complete lack of professionalism, attention to detail, & basic service standards.
Rib trop cuit viande sec
Absolutely horrible, we ate this at the Baton Rouge of Greenfield Park on the Taschereau blv, Saturday 22 Nov, the meat (beef, chicken rib) completely cold & hard as rock, the starters, lobster tail not cooked at all, we turned the plate & the next 45 min later still overcooked & really not edible. We arrived at 17:30 & left at 21:00 with a bill of $284 per plate & a bottle of wine at $49.
I strongly advise against it.
The restaurant seemed half empty at around 7pm on Friday evening. We were promptly seated. We ordered ribs nothing fancy, no special requests. 30 min or so later plates were served. Not much meat on the ribs, cooked a bit dry. Baked potato was lukewarm, with cheddar cheese soft but to the point of being cold, the coleslaw had a taste of citrus (maybe orange?), not traditional sauce anyway.
Overall not impressed with food. Prices are high on both drinks & food.
The service was friendly & prompt, but the kitchen should improve their output. Will think twice about returning there.
Unsure what happenned to this location but in our group of 4, 3 were dissatified with their meal. Two didnt finish it. Boeuf braisé, chicken & ribs plates...all very dry. First time experiencing low quality meal at BR.
Ribsteak champignon sauté,excellent. Menu enfant plusieurs choix & généreux. Service rapide , serveur d' expérience.
The service was excellent, I had a salad & baby ribs. Baton rouge has the best baby ribs in Quebec.
The food is good, the recipes from this banner are tried & truly excellent, yet it's not quite the success it was: steak was under cooked for what was asked (rare blue rather than rare), mashed potatoes were overly garlicky, veggies were overcooked. The ribs were good. Service was impeccable though & the ambiance is enjoyable as usual.
The Bavette was so delicious!!!! The ribs were also great... absolutely recommended
Service & waiters are super nice - quality & quantity changed / Ribs overcooked became crispy & hard to chew on, no longer melting. Fries portion ridiculous for a platter of 46$ (small rack & 4 tiger shrimps with a couple of bones on the side of the dish ♂️
The rack of baby back ribs keep getting smaller & smaller. Better at Costco. Although, the the chicken salad is consistently tasty & large.
Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar (Greenfield Park Location) If you feel like ribs this is the place! We have been eating here for years, tonight the ribs & chicken combo was not very good. In fact the two little pieces of fried chicken which accompanied the rib plate consisted mostly fried batter, not much meat, & tasteless! Truly Disappointing!! I should have ordered the rib plate instead of rib & chicken plate, 9$ difference was NOT worth the almost two little pieces of chicken..
Had dinner with family at this spot. Good food, good service. The polite young lady attended to us very nicely & they had english menus for us. I ordered the Ribs & Chicken & even shared. Definitely a little upscale but it makes for a nice dinner. No complaints here.
The ribs were dry. I dont see the hype. It tastes like the frozen ones you buy from the grocery store. Definitely not worth that price
Very disappointed. Baton burger that looked like the bottom bun, patty & bacon were fused as 1. Coleslaw that had 0 seasoning/vinegar/dressing. My favourite gripe was due to the fact that I returned with my "pick-up" order since the side of celery root purée was so very salty, it was inedible & 1 of the sides, red mashed garlic potatoes was missing. The hostess was very understanding but the kitchen staff not so much . In fact they were yelling so loud insisting there was nothing wrong that I was able to hear them while waiting at the front desk! They provided the missing item & assured me that the new batch of purée was good. However I returned home only to discover it was as salty as the 1st!! Mixing it with the potatoes did nothing to lessen the saltiness. Food quality is no longer a "thing" for this chain. EDIT MARCH 13 2024 Pursuant to the response received, I decided to give this location another chance. Our server Sabrina was nothing short of wonderful. I ordered a rack of ribs, after all, tradition is tradition. Unfortunately I have come to accept that the taste standards here are not at par with other Baton Rouge locations. Thank you
First off service was great! The things we did mention to our server, made it right within constraints. Those constraints was the food quality in the kitchen - & she is not responsible for that. The chicken tenders were dry & small (guessing reheats). Fries were cold with almost every meal. Our table had three orders of chicken tenders & was not a one off. Coleslaw was hot or above room temperature. Ordered a rack 1/2 of ribs, & felt I was being penalized by receiving 3 small " ends stacked together. The people who ordered a rack of ribs look glorious. Honestly the best bit on the table, wife was not digging her chicken tenders & wanted to try the cauliflower wings entree. & they were great! ....Honestly they were amazing!!! Maybe don't go on a Sunday?
The absolutely best ribs in town! The meat is falling off the bone, just diving into the mouthwatering sauce. You just want to lick the plate! But don't forget to start with the Louisiana artichoke & spinach dip - to die for!

Food was amazing. My mom has the mushroom chicken (new), my boyfriend had the beef tartare with a Caesar salad & I had the prime rib sandwich.
We throughly enjoyed our meal & our server was wonderful. Will definitely come back.
