I need to get this off my chest: although it's been a while since the Baton Rouge on Rue des Jockeys in Montréal was renovated, I still haven't been able to get used to the new look. I really miss the old design - it had a warm, dark, almost classic steakhouse feel that gave the space a lot of character. It felt cozy, even a little upscale. Now, the atmosphere is colder & more minimal, & for me, something essential was lost in that change. I know some people might prefer the newer, more modern aesthetic - but personally, I find it a step backward.
That said, I keep coming back - & there's a reason for that. The service here is consistently excellent: attentive, professional, & always friendly. The food is just as good as ever. Their signature ribs are as tender & flavorful as you'd hope, & their hand-selected Canadian AAA steaks are always cooked to perfection, tender & beautifully marbled. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with anything on the appetizer menu either - everything is well-portioned, satisfying, & made to share. Their cocktails are another highlight - thoughtfully mixed & surprisingly refined for a casual grillhouse.
What really makes this location stand out is how versatile it is. Whether I've come here for a dinner date, a family meal, a birthday celebration, or even a business lunch, it's always delivered. The bar area also adds a nice touch for a more laid-back visit, which gives it even more flexibility.
It's not my favorite Baton Rouge location, simply because I miss the way it used to feel - but when it comes to food, service, & value, it still sets the bar. & for that, it remains a go-to.View more
Went for a group party. After realizing our table was broken the staff worked hard to fix the issue. Displacing us a few times. The salad I ordered was huge with the smallest portion of steak.View more
You can't go wrong at this Baton Rouge restaurant. With an extensive menu, from salads to lobster & steak, customers will get excellent quality no matter what is ordered.
But if you want me to recommend something... you can't go wrong with their amazing ribs. They are, by far, the best in the city.
If you decide to sit at the bar, you can enjoy a smaller rib portion, but you can also enjoy their delicious, juicy, fully loaded burger & fries.
Lots of parking & easily accessible by subway.
A great option for good food.View more
Review for Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar
I was truly impressed by this restaurant. The atmosphere is warm, relaxing, & beautifully curated - perfect for enjoying a meal without any rush.
The food? Absolutely excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection - tender, juicy, with a deliciously crisp crust that melted in the mouth. The salad was fresh & crunchy, served with high-quality ingredients & paired perfectly with the main dish.
The sides, like the caramelized onions & sautéed mushrooms, were full of flavor & perfectly balanced. Every detail was thoughtfully executed - from the presentation to the attentive yet discreet service.
Perfect for anyone looking to enjoy something excellent after a long, intense day.
A special thank you to Joyce, who was incredibly kind, polite, & attentive, & to Chef Hawk, who delivered an absolutely perfect steak. Truly top-notch!
Highly recommended!View more
Had the steak ,wife had lobster & shrimp, portions left us still hungry & gone within 20 minutes .
If you want to pay over 100$ & still be hungry its a great spot...
Save yourself the regret drive the extra 30 min to the nearest Keg.View more
Very mediocre! Been in Baton Rouge for the second time, tried their filet mignon & New Yorker steak. Both times I was underwhelmed. Can't say it was terrible but it wasn't good. Wouldn't recommend it for vegetarians as well, my friend couldn't find many options & they removed vegetarian burger. Overall, the place is very loud, doesn't feel like a restaurant more like a pub.View more
À essayer & à adopter !View more
Lower priced option for a Lunch steak. It's been consistently good actually for the Steak Frite which comes with healthy helping of fries of Garlic Mash. It's not my first choice for a great SUPPER steak, BUT, at lunch, for a reasonable price, it is a good option. Also had their ribs & burgers there & they don't disapoint. Also had a few selections of soups which are Harty & very good tasting. Always leave there satisfied.View more
Their steak & signature Rogue burger was the best topple it up with Red Bull fizzView more
Had a lunch with a friend at this place & food was amazing we got cowboy steaks with oignon soup, but what really bothered is that we were first to walk in, & service took so much lt felt like restaurant was full.View more
Our birthday person ordered steak which was done just right. The rest of our meals were excellent. We would definitely go again. Our server was awesome!View more
Visited the Montreal Rue de Jockey location. My husband had a pasta & I had the steak. Both were good. The steak was on the small size. The only comment I would make is that the seasonal vegetables need to be seasoned & steamed more. Mine were almost raw & bland. The baked potato in the skillet was very good.View more
Delicious food. Friendly staff. Know when to leave you in peace if you want to talk to your co-diner. Perfect spot to have a dinner in peace. All the recommendations. Will definitely come back. Steak & mash potatoes are perfect.View more
Food was good, but I have had better. I had the rib steak & found the quality was so so. Veggies are boiled & big - creativity or taste in making them a little more special would have been nice. The atmosphere is what you make it, & we had a nice time & did not feel pressured to leave.View more
Second time to this location while visiting Montreal. The appetizers of steak tartare & tempura shrimp were 10/10, both delicious! The main course Thai steak salad was just ok... nothing asian tasting about it which was a bit disappointing. The dressing was underwhelming & probably wouldn't order it again. Service was great, food came out fast, & overall another super meal. One small thing id recommend to the restaurant is that they need to turn the music volume down, it was just too loud. I will definitely return to this location when back in Montréal again & would recommend it to anyone!View more
(Burgers)View more
I'm writing this review not only about one time I've been there but two times I was there. Just from the first sentence you should consider this place when visiting Montréal or even if you're a resident. The reason is that when I'm on vacation I don't like going to the same restaurant twice because I've already been there & I prefer to find another place to explore more. Which brings me to the review itself. The staff at Bâton Rouge is really kind & understanding. They make sure to understand exactly what you want instead of assuming & ordering something you don't want. The reason I say this is because in a couple places I've been the server wasn't very kind & assumed our orders. But now onto the food. The first time I went I got myself their standard burger which I believe was named "Bâton Rouge Burger" but I could be wrong, I asked for no bacon on it because I've had a few bad experiences with bacon burgers. But bacon or no bacon I think the burger was amazing, honestly it was like an actual burger not like those from ©McDonalds or any other burger place. The second time I had a Ribeye steak & let me tell you, it was great. The steak was done medium well & turned out perfect with a hint of pink in the middle just as I expected, the surface was also dark brown just as it's supposed to be. I recommend getting the Ribeye when coming, they really care about what the quality of the food is. I really enjoyed my time at Bâton Rouge & I will definitely be coming back. Thank you!View more
The steaks are not it. Better done home by my husband. They used to be good now very average.View more
Steak was mouth watering 😋, really do miss this place. Friendly staff & speedy service. Places at home in Barbados can't compare.View more
The rib steak left much to desire. Very veiny, I mean very veiny. It was so tough to cut that I had to constantly make sure everything else didn't go flying. The waiter was great, the atmosphere is what's to be expected, & there is no line up to get in. I'll try this place again at some point & hopefully it's as good as it normally isView more
I used to eat at Baton Rouge quite regularly, but stopped going there about 6 months ago. I almost always ordered the rib steak which came with slaw & a baked potato or fries. It was OK, but they kept raising the prices & when they raised it to $54, I didn't think it was such a good deal anymore. They probably raised the price again since I last ate there. After they did the renovations, they got really pissy about charging me $5 extra for a little extra sour cream on my baked potato beyond the little dab they give you. The manager Jimmy was a total prick, was extremely hostile & rude to me when I complained about the extra charge. I contacted head office the next day because of the rudeness & one of the assistant managers called me & promised me a complimentary steak dinner to apologize & show good will, but I was later contacted by the owner who reneged on that promise. After being subjected to a half hour lecture about why he didn't feel a free steak dinner was warranted, he promised he would "take care of me" next time I came in. After charging me full price PLUS $5 for extra sour cream, he gave me a $25 gift certificate good on my next visit. I went back one final time to use the credit toward a rib dinner which was awful. The "rack & a half" they offer on the menu, was, in reality, a rack & a tiny extra piece (about 1/10 of a rack for $8 extra) & it was overcooked & dry. The place to go is Marven's. I go there 2-3 times a month. They serve up a huge 16 oz rib steak which beats Baton Rouge to hell. It is delicious. In addition they include a huge Caesar salad & home fried potatoes all for $39. The service is amazing & they don't nickel & dime you for a little extra courtesy. Anybody who ever tries a rib steak at Marven's would never even think about returning to Baton Rouge. I don't like being reneged on after a promise had been made & I am done with Baton Rouge.View more
My goto place in mtl, everything I had from menu was good, highly recommended. Steak is better than the $100 steak across the street.View more
I come here for my favorite dish: the chimichurri steak. The atmosphere at the bar is nice.View more
Classic restaurant, steak was a bit cold when it arrived but taste great, octopus for sharing was enough for for one person.View more
The rib steak (with garlic & steak spice) & the fully loaded baked potato were delicious!View more
Went there recently to celebrate my father's birthday & were treated like royalty. All of our food was delicious & looked spectacular when it hit the table. Besides that the overall service was top shelf & beyond. When we arrived we were originally quoted a 30 min wait but Mary & Natalie worked their magic & had us seated well before that. Our server ( I feel bad I forget her name) was pleasant, efficient & knowledgeable, made our ordering experience so enjoyable. We had steaks, ribs, a burger & spinach dip. Everyone's food was spot on. Thank you to Adam & Suri Brother & the rest of the kitchen staff as well as a huge Thank you to Dean for making this a great night. It's good to know that a bunch of Scoops can get a great meal here anytime.View more
I really like the potato soup, the ribs are great, & the steak. But I miss the desserts they use to have- I think the supplier changed.View more
Hubby & I went during lunch time to celebrate our anniversary. The soups & the steak were excellent. The ribs were nothing special. The mille-feuille was mediocre. Our experience with the staff wasn't very good. Our server was cold, never smiled. She put our dessert plates super fast at the corner of our table & left, like we were at a cheap diner. When we paid the bill, while saying it was all set, she took it fast & murmured a small "Thank you" while going to another direction. No eye contact, no "Have a good day". For the record, we were polite & left a 20% tip. To be completely honest, I even felt discriminated, because the server had a more positive attitude with other tables. At the end, we just didn't feel welcome. So we will go to La Cage next time, as we usually do.View more
