We had a generally pleasant experience at Barley Café. We ordered matcha lattes with extra matcha, but unfortunately when they were served, they were already cold. We kindly mentioned it & asked if it could be adjusted, but it remained the same.
However, the food really stood out. The halloumi plate was excellent & full of flavor, & the matcha pancake was absolutely delicious & well prepared.
The service was a little slow, but the staff were friendly, polite, & welcoming, which we appreciated. Overall, it's a nice café with great food, & with a bit more attention to drink temperature & timing, it could be even better.
Absolutely loved my experience at Barley!!! The vibe is so cozy & stylish, the food is full of flavor, & the lattes are top-tier. Definitely my new go-to spot in Montreal & can't wait to come back! btw the Matcha pancakes are a MUST
The matcha pancakes are incredible! It's pretty loud & the service was a little slow, but I went during Sunday rush hour, so it's understandable. Definitely worth it for the pancakes!
Such a great brunch spot! Went with friends & we ordered the Halloumi Plate, the Aylwin's Bacon Hummus, & the Matcha Pancakes. The Cereal Latte was also delicious & super fun to drink. The service was great & the vibe was amazing. Definitely recommend doing a reservation because it was busy.
Was quite disappointed :( Ordered the matcha pancakes but they didn't have the white chocolate sauce to go with it & didn't tell me until the pancakes came out with another sauce. I asked for maple syrup instead as I didn't like substitute. They were slow to bring the food but then many times asked to clear the plates/glasses while we still had food or drink left.
Good but nothing amazing. Matcha pancake was good but labneh dish had barely any pita to accompany the dips. Practical to be able to make reservations since so many brunch places don't take any.
The avocado toast was super normal, nothing wow about it.
The pancake which comes with dulche de leche was super super sweet! I know you are going for something sweet, but then it's 1000 times more than highest sweet you ever tried!
Coffee was very normal too!
Nothing special to pay 70$ for these plus an orange juice!
Obviously you pay for influencers fee!
We had a reservation at Barley Brunch for 3pm, but arrived about half an hour early. The hostess greeted us warmly-super friendly & welcoming-& let us know our table was already ready, which was a nice surprise.
Barley was on my list of top 5 must-try brunch spots in Montreal, based on Instagram recommendations. Overall, the food was decent. The chicken & waffles had potential, but the sauce was a little overpowering for our taste. The salad was okay-not particularly memorable-but the star of the show was definitely the matcha pancake. That did not disappoint. Highly recommend trying it if you go!
We also ordered some teas, & one person in our group who can't have milk was a bit disappointed to find out they only offered milk & not cream as an alternative. It's a small detail, but worth noting.
All in all, the service was fantastic, the vibe was great, & the matcha pancake alone makes it worth a visit.
Waited one hour for undercooked pancakes & dry waffles, the coffee was good though
This place is brunch perfection! The vibe is cozy & welcoming, the staff is friendly, & the food? Unreal. I had the pancakes au matcha it was so goooooood. The coffee was spot-on. Quick service, gorgeous plates, & a menu that begs for repeat visits. Five stars-go treat yourself!

Breakfast here is an absolute delight! Every bite feels like a warm, comforting hug to start the day. The menu balances classic favorites (fluffy pancakes, perfectly crispy bacon) with creative twists-think avocado toast with zesty lime or decadent stuffed French toast. Ingredients taste fresh & high-quality, & the coffee is rich & aromatic. The staff radiates positivity, offering quick service without ever feeling rushed. Cozy ambiance with a touch of modern flair makes it ideal for solo mornings or lively brunch gatherings. Affordable, flavorful.
If you're looking for a fresh & exciting brunch spot in Montreal, Barley Bar à Céréales is a must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the stylish yet cozy atmosphere sets the perfect tone for a laid-back meal. The staff is warm, welcoming, & attentive, making sure every guest has a great experience. Even during busy hours, service is efficient, & the team is always happy to offer recommendations.
The food? Absolutely fantastic. Their pancakes are beautifully presented & packed with flavor, while their avocado & beet hummus toast is a standout-creamy, fresh, & perfectly seasoned. Their halloumi platter is another crowd-pleaser, offering a delicious balance of textures & flavors. Of course, the main attraction is their cereal bar, where you can mix & match classic & unique cereals with various toppings for a fun, customizable treat.
Barley isn't just about great food-it's about the whole experience. Whether you're there for a quick coffee, a leisurely brunch, or to get some work done in a welcoming space, this spot delivers. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out!
We walked in with birthday balloons, & right off the bat, Youssef was so accommodating - suggesting where we can put them for the birthday girl. We felt right at ease, with his kindness & banter. Once the birthday girl arrived, he offered her a birthday drink. It was very sweet & thoughtful. We ordered our food & drinks & everything was absolutely amazing. I had the fried chicken waffles, while the rest had the fried halloumi dish & the avocado toast. The coffee was also so delicious. Afterwards, Youssef brought over a taste of their caramel-hazel nut pancakes, & the matcha pancakes. It was such a wonderful treat. It was so wonderful feeling their hospitality & their attention to detail, & Youssef just wanted us to have a great time. He also gave us a tour of their speakeasy - we can't wait to come back!! We had the best experience, highly recommend!!
Halloumi plate was great! Matcha pancakes are a bit salty, & the taste of matcha is really subtle, but it isn't too sweet, which is good. The portion for the pancakes is really big, it gets a bit boring so in my opinion it is best shared. Chai latte has ginger, which feels great to have in winter. It's sprinkled with cinnamon on top. We reserved for 3 people at 9:45am on a cold December 23rd, Monday, but there was no need to.
Love coming to barleys for the fresh & flavourful brunch options. My personal fav is the Lebanese plate with their homemade sausages & their house pancakes for dessert, they're so fluffy! Fried chicken with hot honey is also so yummy & not heavy. The playlist is always such a vibe & the atmosphere is so chill. Youssef is such a great host, makes everyone feel at home & gives great recommendations. Eloise is super friendly & gives great service! Definitely a brunch you need to try!! ☺️
Eloise & Yousseff were so friendly & welcoming. Their pancakes & lebanese breakfast plate was delicious & very filling. Would recommend to anyone looking for a breakfast/ brunch.
Honestly, food is amazing & been going to Barleys for awhile already & always recommend to friends & family! However, felt really disappointed today as I ordered because not only the price got higher (which is understandable) but the portion shrunk. The Matcha Pancake we ordered is literally almost half the portion of what it used to :( & my croissant sandwich was half the size of my hand... Really want to keep coming here but don't think I'll be going that much anymore :/ felt a bit sad after leaving the store :(
The service could improve, there is a long wait to get your food & the music is really loud. I personally didn't like their Avocado Toast with the Mint & Pomegranate Molasses but it could be personal taste. Pancake Maison was great & the Latte as well.
