Bar Renard is widely described as a stylish, high-energy spot with a central bar, strong DJ-led ambiance, and a danceable vibe that can shift from relaxed to upbeat as the night progresses. Reviews praise friendly bartenders, good cocktails and nachos, and a pleasant terrace, but repeatedly note that the space is very small and often crowded on weekends, which can make it feel warm, noisy, and difficult to find a comfortable table. Service is praised for friendliness and efficiency at times, yet other accounts point to slow, inconsistent service and occasional attitude from staff, especially when the venue is busy. Some meals are viewed as solid or good value, while a few comments mention disappointing drink dilution or portion size. Reservations are not offered, and some guests experience delays in getting drinks or seating, which can dampen the experience. Overall Bar Renard functions as a dependable, vibrant meeting place in the Village for drinks and socializing, with a loyal following, but potential guests should be prepared for crowding, variable service, and a loud atmosphere.
Paris attitude seems out of order in Montreal but unfortunately we have been seeing more of it lately !! - The bartender handed me my drink after another staff member had thrown a straw in it to taste my drink.- I complained & was ignored....little did they know that I had arrived early to host 14 other friends for a double birthday celebration.......I re-directed my guests to another Bar where we had a fabulous time. - Renard is now blacklisted ! - Regarding Renard reply: the practice of tasting customers drinks is unacceptable & plain Rude ! You can choose your policies & we can pick where to spend our money....not at Renard for sure !
Very small bar with limited space. Drinks were ok, nothing special. They dont take reservations either. Kind of like a club bar hybrid is what they are going for. Food was good. Service was good but the female waitress gave a bit of attitude at first when asking for a better table.

Great Place to have good time, BUT friday & Saturday is packed like a can of Sardines 🐟 this place is too small for the amount of people that go there !
This is a lovely bar with a wonderful atmosphere. The bartenders were so nice & friendly going far above & beyond what I expect bartenders to do. The space is great to have conversation while still being noisy enough to be enjoyable. Highly recommend!
Super place! Les nachos renard sont hyper généreux & délicieux, les drinks sont super bons & tout le staff était serviable & sympa. Vraiment contente de l'avoir découvert!
UPDATE BELOW:
Renard has been my go-to bar for more than a year. I've had great memories there with my friends, enjoying the music & the drinks. But on Saturday night, November 29th, 2025, something happened that completely shocked me.
I ordered a drink, & the bartender-the only female staff member working that night-handed me the card machine showing a $30 charge. When I tried to politely correct her, she gave it back to me with a $40 charge instead. I literally asked, with all the politeness in the world & a big smile on my face,'Why am I paying this much for one glass?'
All of a sudden, she exploded at me-yelling & screaming that I had ordered three drinks & then added another one. She then slammed the card machine onto the bar so hard that it probably broke. Her reaction honestly made me feel scared.
*Update for the replay:
Thank you for following up on this matter. In fact, none of the points raised are accurate, & I would like to clarify the situation with specific facts.
* The security guard asked me to stay until the end of the night so he could speak with her at closing & then return to me. I was not waiting for her-you can verify this with him. He was the one who accepted my complaint while the other coworker, Jules, was rude to me, trying to cover for her by suggesting I report him instead.
*The common-sense question here is: Why did she think I was waiting for her? & the answer is crystal clear.
* You mentioned the issue started when I changed my order, but who said there was an issue if she claims she was the nicest person to me? & apparently, I hadn't even responded with a single word-was it the table or chairs that went mad & started the issue?
* I do not know what the cameras show, but I have two friends who were with me & felt unsafe watching her hit the card machine on the bar-it was audible even on a busy Saturday night. They can verify this.
* I have no reason to make up stories. Bar Renard has always been my favorite place to party, enjoy my preferred drinks, & unwind, my only problem is the bad behavior & attitude from this particular bartender.
Bar avec une belle ambiance pour les 5 à 7. Nous avons eu la chance d'obtenir une table. Le choix de bières est varié, le personnel est très sympathique & le service, excellent.
