Bar George is a busy spot, even at 5pm on a very rainy Wednesday. Putting your name at the host stand & waiting in line is also somewhat convoluted as they assumed since I was speaking in English, my first language wasn't french & I could not understand the regulars that kept getting admitted no reservation before us, because they know somebody. Additionally, sitting at the bar, the drinks were great, but there were items missing from the list & that's always a faux-pas for me when you don't offer your full menu. The bar itself is gorgeous though, & the vibe is fantastic.
This place is a dream , feels like you travel in time when you are there . I came there with a friend to get some drinks at night, we ended up staying in the hotel upstairs (despite having another hotel booked ) & stayed next day for both breakfast & lunch. I couldn't get enough of it. Took pictures of everything & every corner of this place , service is very good, everyone is very friendly & food is delicious. Highly recommend to come after sunset when they light up the candles , the vibe is incredible. I will definitely be back every-time I visit Montreal . Space is architecturally interesting. The decor & vibe were great. Food was solid with a few misses. Overripe avocado on expensive avocado toast isn't acceptable. Sausage exceeded expectations. The menu had some imaginative takes on classics. I regretted getting something other than standard fare. With a little more attention to detail the food could have been amazing.
During my visit to Montreal for the Solar Eclipse, I had the chance to eat at Bar George, set in a historic building that feels like stepping back into the 19th century with its decor & vibe. The place has a warm & nostalgic feel, making it a really cool spot to dine. We ordered the Beef Wellington & the lobster risotto, both of which were standout dishes. The Beef Wellington was exceptional, perfectly cooked with flavorful mushrooms enveloped in the pastry, & served alongside sweet potato purée & peppercorn sauce. Although it was my first time trying Beef Wellington, it impressed me greatly & set a high standard. However, I discovered that my favorite cut of steak isn't typically used in Beef Wellington, so this might be my one & only experience with it-likely remaining unbeaten at the top of my list. The lobster risotto was equally remarkable. The risotto was perfectly cooked to a creamy consistency, neither too runny nor too stiff, which really allowed the flavors to shine. It was topped with four generous pieces of lobster claw meat, making each spoonful a luxurious treat. The lobster was fresh & cooked just right, providing a succulent contrast to the rich, creamy rice. The balance of flavors & textures made this dish a memorable part of our meal. The total came to almost 200 CAD (including tip), but given the quality of the food & the unique setting, it was totally worth it.
My mom just went there to celebrate her 55 birthday with her friends & they had THE BEST TIME!! They don't drink alcohol & the staff were so good at recommending them mocktails that fit their exact taste! Amazing & professional service, amazing food, amazing vibe!! Beautiful place! The woodwork is impressive. The atmosphere is very nice. I ordered a scone to try it & it is actually a biscuit & nothing to write home about. I won't order it again bc it's not flaky. I then had the lobster omelette which was amazing!!! Really delicious with a hint of lemon. The kitchen had an issue which delayed the delivery of the omelette, I didn't mind bc the vibe & walls are so pretty. I recommend this place & would return
