Delicious food. I was confused about the combination but the 2 types of cuisine: Viet (I think also thai) & Bangladesh, not fusion. Each cuisine. Owners are from Bangladesh but love Vietnamese food & was trained by Vietnamese chefs.

Also, only halal so no pork here.

I only tried food that was Bangladesh as that was different for me & it did not disappoint! The food was so good I actually forgot to take a picture. Some items weren't available when we went Sunday at around 8pm. We had entrees of Fuchka which ws so interesting to eat. It was light, crispy on the outside I couldn't make sense of what it would taste like or if I'd like it based on reading the description but it's delicious & full of flavor & feels light & texturally, works.

For my main I had the chicken Bhuna, never having tried it before. It's not a heavy rich curry but that doesn't mean it lacks flavor. It feels lighter in some ways than a Japanese curry or Indian curry I've had but it had some familiar tones. Also really good.

We dined in & tea was included which was nice as so many places charge for this. Highly recommend, good prices, will go back.

The Bengali food was amazing! Delicious & affordable. & they deliver!
Next time i try the Vietnamese food!

Edit: one year later. Vietnamese food is great, & the Bengali food is the best desi thali in town.

The owner is really nice & loves to get to know the customers. I came all the way from New Jersey, USA to try Halal Pho for the first time & it was amazing! Flavorful with loads of toppings to add on the side. I got some complimentary green tea with my meal too. Nice Bangladeshi/Vietnamese fusion. 🇧🇩🇻🇳

We absolutely loved our visit ( they are very close to the canal as well ) The staff were extraordinarily friendly & accommodating. When our baby threw a tea glass, they came over right away, not with frustration but with kindness & smiles, making sure we were okay. It's rare to find a place with such heart. The halal Vietnamese dishes were delicious ,we ordered the Banh Mi Sandwich & beef pho as well, everything was delicious including the complimentary tea. Highly recommend !!

Me & my friend came from Ottawa & found this place by pure coincidence, but I am happy that I did. The atmosphere was very hospitable & the food was amazing. Special shoutout to Tawfiq as his recommendation was my introduction to Vietnamese & Bangladeshi fusion cuisine.

Everything about Baan Lao speaks to the cultural hub that Montreal is. Truly enjoyed the experience & would encourage anyone who wants to better understand what'halal vietnamese' is to check this place out.

1st time I went I tried the beef & chicken Banh Mi & I was very satisfied. This time I went for a Pho Soup & I was satisfied of the the taste for a'Halal Vietnamese' fusion!
