Our boutique, the first of its kind in Quebec, is located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, between Parc Lafontaine and Mont-Royal (corner St Denis / Rachel). Come and enjoy the atmosphere of this lively neighborhood: you can savor a Merveilleux, a waffle or a freshly baked cramique, accompanied by a coffee, in our tearoom or to take away! Our delicious sandwiches are also available for lunch.
Aux Merveilleux de Fred receives praise for its pastry selection, especially the signature Merveilleux, the croissants, brioche, waffles, and chocolate croissant, with many noting excellent coffee and a high level of quality across treats. The open kitchen and clean, polished ambiance contribute to a sense of quality and professionalism, and service is often described as friendly and attentive. Some visitors compare the place to a Montreal staple, while others point to occasional disappointments such as pastry lamination issues on a few visits or variability in experience. The atmosphere is frequently called cozy and welcoming, and the bakery is seen as a place to return to for fresh, well made pastries and desserts, though a handful of reviews mention space constraints or that some items were too sweet or not as memorable on certain days.
Exactly what I was hoping for when I spotted the insane chandelier...which was amazing coffee & high quality pastries. I was not one little bit disappointed. Their pastries are statuesque & I can tell you as a baker myself that was tasty bites. The coffee was impeccable & I wish I'd spotted the fact they won third place for next croissant in Montreal, or I certainly would have had at least two.
My husband & I were visiting from Edmonton a few years back. We had a lovely time visiting with staff, & of course sampling many of the wonderful pastries & croissant. All while enjoying a lovely espresso. I remember it fondly.
We fell in love with this quaint little shoppe, & when we visit Montreal one of our absolute musts is stopping by Aux Merveilleux de Fred.
This has been my go-to pastry spot for years, but my last few visits have been disappointing. As you can see in the photo, the lamination basically failed…. I hope they get back to their usual standard soon.

Their croissants are top quality! It's a high end offering with very fair prices. Service is really professional & the place is super clean, white & neat. All preparations happen in an open kitchen in front of you, proof of quality, professionalism & cleanliness. They use top ingredients. I always go there for the chocolate croissant (so far best in Montreal) & the coffee

I bought a small cherry pastry. It was moldy & when I showed the staff they were incredibly rude & tried to convince me it was just cherry (despite it being green & fuzzy!). The staff replaced it but didn't offer any kind of apology & were super rude when we left. The pastry didn't even taste like cherry. 0/10
