I dined here with my mother in December. The service was truly impeccable. Everyone was so warm, friendly, & incredibly professional. Our server gave us excellent wine recommendations that complemented our meal. The food was decadent, rich, & blew us away. We somehow made room for dessert, which I highly recommend you do as well. The was one of my favorite dining experiences!
Au Pied de Cochon remains, without question, my favorite restaurant in Canada. Alongside its sister properties; Cabane d'à Côté & Cabane à Sucre in Mirabel- it is a group that simply does not miss.
This visit marked roughly my tenth time through its doors, though opportunities to bring my wife here are rare. Experiencing it together this time gave the meal a different resonance, allowing me to see the restaurant anew through her reactions as much as my own. Her first time here compared to this was much different, as she was prepared - & she loved it.
Service, as always, is impeccable - & worth mentioning briefly because it has never wavered. The staff are deeply knowledgeable, disarmingly honest, & charming in a way that feels entirely unforced. There's a self-aware joy in how they describe the excess you're about to consume. At one point, our server leaned in with a broad, knowing smile & a thick Québécois accent to say:'The Champvalon is cooked from all of the meat juices & drippings from basically everything throughout the day.' She didn't hesitate - dropped the plates on the counter & confidently walked away knowing we were in for a treat.
We began with the onion soup, a dish that could justify the visit on its own. Deeply savory, intensely warming, & loaded with well-charred, gooey, funky cheese, it also contains actual chunks of sausage - because of course it does. On a night where it was -17°C outside, this was comfort at its most primal. Alongside it came the foie gras poutine: house-cut fries, a decadent foie-laced gravy, huge chunks of soft foie gras & gloriously oversized cheese curds. It's indulgence dialed unapologetically to eleven.
The main course was the Champvalon - something I had somehow never encountered on previous visits (or even heard of as I'm also a chef). A slow-braised mélange of venison & pork, cooked for hours in cast iron, layered with thinly sliced potatoes & bound together by a glossy, sticky sauce that speaks to patience, restraint, & technical saucier skills. It was rich without being too heavy, rustic yet precise, & deeply, impressively delicious.
Dessert, as has often been the case here, was the showstopper. These aren't listed on the website & should never be skipped. The pouding chômeur is otherworldly - the best we've ever had. Incredibly rich, deeply sweet, unctuous, & unapologetic. Every adjective that points toward absolute food heaven applies here.
If there is a criticism - & it's one I've never had to offer before - it's that the menu feels smaller than in years past. While it's comforting to see the staples remain (duck in a can, foie tamaki, tartare cones), the reduced selection offers fewer surprises for repeat visitors. For someone returning for the tenth time, the sense of discovery is slightly diminished. I was fortunate there was one main I hadn't yet tried yet, & it was still available. I'd love to see a little cross-pollination from Cabane à Sucre when it closes for the season, if ideation over the years becomes too much, or bring back some of the hits over the years (I recall an incredible French toast with maple syrup, foie gras, cranberry, goats cheese, as well as a delicious tarragon pickled cows tongue).
Until then-see you at the Cabane on May 2nd. I've been lucky enough to snag a reservation.
On recommande +++

Eating is usually functional, rarely is it an artistic experience. When I was making plans for my girlfriend & I before we visited Montreal, I almost made reservations for a place called Joe Beef. They had a few reservations left at the bar here, which I was slightly nervous about because bar seating isn't quite as intimate but I made them anyway. Little did I know we would have front row seats to an incredible display of execution & teamwork as well as a meal to remember. Ariel was our server, welcoming us with a brief walkthrough of the seasonal menu - she left us to decide the journey we wanted to take. After we ordered, we quickly became mesmerized by the way the HC Robert moved with the food like a graceful dance. This alone was impressive but in addition to his skills it became evident he was teaching a junior chef (Spanish speaking), both about plating & food as well as French! Both gentlemen were a treat to watch work. We chose a sweet & salty starter - my introduction to Foie Gras arrived on a bread pudding complemented with a lovely cider reduction & poached pear. After tasting that we honestly couldn't believe two other groups had already come & gone beside us as if this was any other meal. Our grilled Rabbit, Tuna, & sourdough came after we had a minute to take a breath from our starter. We took our time with this & the following dishes as we felt savoring this effort was the best compliment we could pay our hosts. The chef noticed we had taken enough time to clean the grilled rabbit plate with our sourdough so only trace evidence was left of what was served - so he offered to heat the tuna for us - extremely grateful for his attentiveness. The grilled tuna was incredible, sandwiching bacon, greens, & served in a tomato water with cherry tomatoes. My girlfriend couldn't finish her portion so I took one for the team. No dishes went back to the kitchen with food. For dessert we decided on a caramel fondant with frozen raspberries, ice cream & a coffee. I'll just say even if I had no room for this I would've found a way to struggle through. The staff was having fun, we had fun, everything was beyond our expectations! If you are considering making a reservation - stop thinking & figure out where it will fit into your schedule. This place was perfectly reflective of our lovely trip, Thank you so much to the staff & specifically Robert & Ariel - we will surely be back :) Merci!
We went to Au PDC on our final night to experience the modern twist on Quebecois cuisine. I had reserved a week in advance online for 2 guests for an early time. I was impressed & appreciated that the staff was trained to greet each guest with eye contact &'Bon soir.' We were served primarily by Frederic, a charming local who had lived in other parts of Canada & overseas & who willingly entertained our questions about Quebec & Canada. The restaurant had a warm, cozy, rustic vibe. We were rather hungry & ordered our starters, which came rather quickly--the foie gras nigiri & the foie gras poutine. Both were excellent & very much rich & decadent. I had not had any poutine until that night just to have the'authentic poutine.' It did not disappoint. Based on Frederic's recommendation, we did not want to overdo the entrees after the starters so we ordered one entree to share, the Pork Shank. It took much longer time than expected but we appreciated the tenderness of the pork & flavor. As other reviewers had mentioned, the staff could speak to the dishes with authority. Frederic convinced me with dessert--not very difficult with me--haha. I cannot remember the name but it was basically a donut with berries & cream--absolutely delightful with the chamomile tea. The total was $140 CAD & we gave a rather generous tip for Frederic who made our experience fun & interesting. Merci beaucoup for a memorable evening!
I really did not enjoy my experience here, but the excellent service & friendly server kept this from being a 1-star review.
The atmosphere is cozy & inviting, but the service was extremely slow. We waited over 3 hours for our food, with no explanation given when we asked. The drinks were decent, but nothing memorable.
The biggest letdown was the food. For a bill over $500, we expected far better quality. The foie gras poutine was the only standout dish. The duck in a can was okay, but far from exceptional. The steak was a disaster. It was chewy, poorly cooked, & still had silverskin. For a dish that cost $180, it was truly disappointing. The flavor & execution were lacking on this dish. I could not even swallow the steak as it was so chewy that I had to spit every bite out.
On a positive note, dessert was quite good, & again, the service was excellent. If it wasn't for the server, we would've walked out.
Unfortunately, I won't be returning or recommending this place unless you have time to kill & don't mind overpaying for mediocre food. All of us went to get poutine afterwards, that's how disappointed we are with this place.
Fun fact, the $20 poutine place had way better taste & way better flavours then here.
From the moment my lady & I entered the restaurant, Chloe was very kind. Then, we were greeted by Fred, Arielle, & last but not least Leo'. Special thanks to Martin for the time to speak with both my friends Angelo & Paul. Kitchen staff although flooded with orders, maintained a composed demeanor. Again, thanks Leo for suggesting the dessert 😋. Tu ma gosse.
We could only book the one bar seating left at 10PM on a Wednesday right after Holiday. There were quite a bit of empty seats when we arrived so me & my husband could be seated on a table. We snacked for dinner earlier already because the reservation was late at night. My husband wanted to order the beef tripes but was sold out. Dessert options of the day were not interested at all for me. My husband is allergic to alcohol & I am pregnant so we cannot drink. We ended up only getting couple of appetizers for a late night snack which were the duck temaki & foie gras nigiri. They were delicious & unique but the price value were not good. Paid $60 for just 6 bites. Glad that we finally tried the restaurant but probably won't go back. Would like to visit again for the two appetizers though if the price is better.
I went in with mixed expectations, as I know that the border between indulgent QC fare & tourist trap can be muddled. I am so happy with what we got. An attentive but not overbearing service & dishes mostly on the memorable side. Highlights: foie gras terrine to moan for, great duck tartare, & all the mains: great halibut, otrageous & delicious stuffed pig hoof (a beast of a dish) & delicious pork sirloin. Great use of seasonal mushrooms. Desserts were moreish even after the generous portions of the pork mains.
Less impressive: the foie gras nigiri was taken over by the ponzu sauce, & the razor clams were not uniform in cooking but eh, still nice.
Recommended for whoever is looking for Quebecoise indulgence as advertised by that Bourdain documentary. I am sure there are other venues that provide it, but this one is accessible & its reputation is justified. Stick to seafood if fat turns you off.
Everything is delicious & has the layer of taste. What i like most is the fondant dessert. Duck in a can seem to be the must thing to try but we like it the least because it is a bit oily for us. We mentioned in our reservation that we came here to celebrate our anniversary & the server really made something for us on the dessert part. Thanks for that. Overall. It's a good experience.
The experience failed to live up to the hype. Service was inconsistent from the start, with the appetizer arriving a full hour after we placed our order. The signature dishes were overly salted, & we left half of the duck untouched. Dessert was a cloyingly sweet caramel soup, lacking balance. Staff attributed the delays & missteps to the crowd & peak-hour rush. Even the bill took 15 minutes to arrive after we requested it.

Très belle expérience
J y retournerai
Absolutely phenomenal. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu. We got the Duck Temaki (10/10), Plogue a Champlain (a little too sweet for our palate but would make for a good dessert), Scallop Quenelle (light & delicious), & Plogue a Champlain (perfect). We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, which I quite liked. Service was impeccable.
Incredible dinner from beginning to end. Server was on top of filling our glasses & staying close but not hovering. Food was delicious, my partner loved the duck in a can & I enjoyed the duck temaki & Guinea fowl. Dessert did not disappoint, though we were stuffed to bursting we powered through. We did however have a long wait between courses. I think either the kitchen was backed up or they waited to put our food in. Either way I didn't even notice at the time & it actually paced the meal nicely.
Second time here comming from Toronto. Everything I ate except the oysters ad foie gras, & that's a good thing, you can't not eat foie & come here. Everything was amazing couldn't get enough of the foie nigiri, the terrine was amazing with the maple butter. Finally tried the duck in a can. Although I did not have the foie poutine this year, I highly recommend that to. The dessert, pouring chomeur, was great. PIck the add cheddar & foie option it's a great pairing between sweet & savory. This place never disappoints & I will be back next year again, I need to try everything on the menu.
