I visited Au Pied de Cochon earlier this month while traveling in Montreal, & I still find myself thinking about what an incredible dinner it was. Even we had some issues, without a doubt we would come back.
It was a very special evening with a multi course tasting menu, as they had a guest chef in residence. The whole experience felt unique & thoughtfully curated, something you truly cannot easily find elsewhere.
The night started in an unexpected way. A perfumer came to our table & presented a warm tin, & inside there was a towel infused with an absolutely beautiful fragrance. I never thought I would be praising a scented towel as part of a dining experience, but it was unforgettable & something we still talk about today
The dishes themselves were delicious & very generous. It felt like the portions had not been perfectly calibrated for this special menu, & there was a lot of food. Our favorite dishes were definitely the pasta courses. I do not have photos of everything, but I am sharing the ones I could find on my phone.
Service had a few hiccups throughout the evening. At times, it felt like we were forgotten. Guests who arrived after us were served much earlier, & at one point we waited around 30 minutes with nothing arriving at the table. We also ordered cocktails that were recommended by our server, but they never came. However, once we brought this up, the team handled it very well. They apologized, brought the missing drinks & offered them on the house. The staff was genuinely attentive in resolving the situation, which we really appreciated.
Even though the experience was not perfect, the way they handled the issues made a big difference. I highly recommend it for a special occasion. It is definitely on the pricier side, but it offers something truly unique. & if they ever repeat this kind of guest chef experience, do not miss it. It is also important to make a reservation in advance
I dined here with my mother in December. The service was truly impeccable. Everyone was so warm, friendly, & incredibly professional. Our server gave us excellent wine recommendations that complemented our meal. The food was decadent, rich, & blew us away. We somehow made room for dessert, which I highly recommend you do as well. The was one of my favorite dining experiences!
Montreal's food scene is top notch & this bustling little place is a must-stop. Chef Picard & his staff do not fail to delight. From the foie gras, to the pork chop & shank, to the dulce de leche'lava' cake, even the most discerning patron will be moved by this remarkable food. The exceptional service, & fun atmosphere of this restaurant will not disappoint! Fully recommended.
On recommande +++
Incredible food & even better service! Every dish was full of flavor & beautifully presented, & the staff made us feel so welcome from start to finish. It's easy to see why this place has such a great reputation - they truly go above & beyond. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!
Is the theme tacky & completely went over my head??
The food was all over the place. The best thing we ate here were the French fries. Yes they were really good, but disappointing this was the best thing. Foie nigiri is super tacky - bamboo leaf, bamboo platter, big Asian soup spoons, what was even the rice, foie cooked ok. Sauce comes in a small squirt bottle. lol.
Duck in a can - duck overcooked like a tire, foie somehow undercooked pink & stringy?? The sauce it came in was delicious but more than a few bites will put you in the grave. Sweetbreads dish I couldn't take more than 2 bites of.
Spicy martini was gross, congealed olive oil all over the glass. Straight to jail whoever created that! Drinks took a long time, all appetizers arrived before, service friendly but super super slow. Was the staff drinking? Lol maybe just having a good time & urgency not the key here. Even to get the bill was along wait. Absolute tourist trap. Would not recommend.
We visited this restaurant while on vacation under the recommendation of so many & I cannot recommend it enough for delicious food. It is very lively inside & a bit chaotic, but the staff are friendly & attentive.
Every dish was an interesting take on traditional foods. Highly recommend the duck in a can - the can is opened at the table & the duck comes out rare, I was very impressed
It is very fairly priced for the quality & we rolled out so full!
Highly recommend if you are in Montreal!
Our visit to Au Pied de Cochon was the highlight of our already amazing trip to Montréal. The staff was incredibly attentive & the overall vibe was so positive. I truly applaud the team for being able to create such a memorable experience.
The foie gras poutine was the best poutine I've ever had. I highly recommend it. The duck in a can was delicious, & the pork loin was also wonderful.
A special thanks to our server Emil for his excellent service & spot-on recommendations.
Best food I've ever had in a restaurant! Don't say this lightly ~ this was definetly an experience of taste, texture, & aromas. From appetizer to main course, it was just food for the soul. To say I loved it would be an understatement. Highly recommend!
Wonderful meal with some of the most incredible duck & fish dishes! The atmosphere was wonderful & our server Niles offered some great food recommendations. Highly recommend, especially for a date night or a special occasion.
Exceptional service at Au Pied de Cochon! The staff were incredibly attentive - checking in often & keeping our water glasses full. It's the small details like that which really elevate the experience.
The thoughtful presentation of each dish (& even the drinks!) was a standout. They walked us through how everything was prepared, adding a special touch to the experience. Even without speaking much French, we felt completely welcomed. A unique & memorable dining experience!
As for food, I would highly recommend the fois gras nigiri, stuffed pork foot, duck in a can.
First time eating here. The service was absolutely amazing & the food was even better! 12/10 experience. Highly recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting Montreal.
A delightful experience from start to end. Staff are very welcoming & food was everything I imagined. Highly recommend.
This place NEVER disappoints, a true Montreal institution for fine dining. Fresh ingredients, bold flavours, everything house made, you can't get better than that. We enjoyed the seafood platter & the yellowfin tuna that was caught in Nova Scotia that same afternoon. Highly recommend & will be back again soon as usual!
An amazing experience all around with incredible food & service. Getting a reservation is highly recommended for a seamless dining experience but once you're seated, the staff is courteous & knowledgeable & the menu fantastic. Prepare for the opposite of a'light meal' with foie gras everything.
I went in with mixed expectations, as I know that the border between indulgent QC fare & tourist trap can be muddled. I am so happy with what we got. An attentive but not overbearing service & dishes mostly on the memorable side. Highlights: foie gras terrine to moan for, great duck tartare, & all the mains: great halibut, otrageous & delicious stuffed pig hoof (a beast of a dish) & delicious pork sirloin. Great use of seasonal mushrooms. Desserts were moreish even after the generous portions of the pork mains.
Less impressive: the foie gras nigiri was taken over by the ponzu sauce, & the razor clams were not uniform in cooking but eh, still nice.
Recommended for whoever is looking for Quebecoise indulgence as advertised by that Bourdain documentary. I am sure there are other venues that provide it, but this one is accessible & its reputation is justified. Stick to seafood if fat turns you off.
So good, second time here & it's sooooo good - from the food, to the service, to the ambiance. Highly recommend for those visiting & beyond!
Air conditioner didn't work front of house. It was very hot & humid that day & harder to breathe. Food is very flavourful & meals can be for 2 people. Recommend doing 1 duck dish & a pasta or fish dish to balance the richness from the duck dishes.
