Au Petit Extra The Village/Centre-Sud, Montreal: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
BistroFrenchTartareBuffet

About

Au Petit Extra embodies the quintessential spirit of a classic French bistro through a focused menu centered on traditional culinary techniques. Diners encounter a steady rotation of heartier plates that emphasize the preparation of raw protein, most notably represented by signature hand-cut tartares seasoned with precision. The interior environment prioritizes a functional, open layout that encourages direct engagement with the brisk pace of kitchen operations. Culinary execution favors bold, straightforward flavors over complex deconstruction, ensuring that every plate remains consistent with historical bistro standards. The menu relies on the procurement of quality seasonal ingredients to maintain the integrity of its core offerings. This establishment functions as a dedicated hub for those seeking technical proficiency in the preparation of established French classics served within an unpretentious and highly efficient operational setting.

Review Summary

Au Petit Extra is widely recognized as a classic destination for authentic French cuisine, frequently praised for its cozy atmosphere, elegant decor, and standout dishes like duck confit. Many patrons appreciate the high-quality ingredients, professional service, and comprehensive wine list, often describing the experience as a reliable and enjoyable staple in Montreal. While many guests enjoy consistent excellence, some reviews point to inconsistencies in service speed, particularly before shows, and occasional fluctuations in food quality or portion sizes. Despite these mixed experiences regarding pacing and value, the restaurant maintains a strong reputation as a welcoming spot for celebrations and meaningful dining moments.

This French restaurant offers a pleasant atmosphere & food that is generally above average. The dining room is comfortable, making it a nice place for a relaxed meal.
For appetizers, we ordered the roast poultry rillettes. For mains, we had the beef cheek & duck confit, & we finished with a crème brûlée for dessert.
Overall, the dishes were well prepared & enjoyable. The beef cheek was tender, the duck confit was nicely cooked, & the crème brûlée was a satisfying way to end the meal. While nothing was particularly groundbreaking, the food was consistently good & the overall experience was very enjoyable.
A solid choice if you're looking for a comfortable French dining experience.

Exceptional food that is reasonably priced. The seafood & fish items are as fresh as they can get. Very attentive wait staff & they do not interrupt the table; always coming at the right time. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good French cuisine dining experience at great value!

Recommended by my French friend, food was good, a bit too salty, had to drink a lot of water afterwards, while the ambiance was pleasant. Noah was attentive, friendly, & made sure we had everything we need. He definitely enhanced our overall dining experience.

The food but the variety or edgy bold dish is not there. Classic French menu but lacks the ambition it used to have.

Great place! French chefs from Lyon were present as part of the Festival de Lumiere running until mid March I beleive. Everything was spot on. 👌

Nice french restaurant with great quality & delicious food! The place has the vintage decor matching with the building history & the cabaret hall next to it, making you feel like in a different century. Good service overall & we'd love to go back.
