Review Summary

Au Comptoir MarCel is widely regarded as a standout dining destination in Magog, consistently praised for its exquisite, Portuguese-inspired cuisine and warm, professional service. Many guests highlight the high quality of the tasting menu, the knowledgeable wine pairings, and the charming atmosphere, particularly on the terrace overlooking the river. While the vast majority of visitors describe their experiences as sublime and memorable, some have noted occasional inconsistencies regarding cooking times, portion sizes, or the pacing of service during busier periods. Despite minor critiques concerning table spacing or specific dish preparation, the restaurant remains a favorite for many, who frequently return to enjoy the creative menu and the attentive care provided by the team.

Service long entre les plats. Nourriture correcte.

An absolute delight! We ordered the tasting menu & were blown away by how fresh, creative, & flavorful everything was. Plus, the portion sizes are surprisingly generous. With its top-notch service & fantastic ambiance, this is a must-visit spot for an amazing dinner in Magog. Highly recommended!

Very ordinary, the main course was basically a few mussels with bits of calamari & potatoes for 38$ I wouldn't call it a seafood dish.

Beautiful inside & terrace. English if preferred. Great cocktail & wine list. All staff helpful - both the younger ones (well trained) & more experienced. But the food is the obvious highlight - passionate preparation, local ingredients, understated so not such overwhelming flavor you do t taste the great fish. My husband & I share the whole fish & 2 apps (phenomenal gazpacho & special octopus). Probably most unique higher end dining in downtown Magog (but the Parcelles experience on Ausitin is an absolute must too!). Merci!

Bon repas, service assez lent / assez occupé.

Me & my wife have frequented Comptoir MarCel during the summer, 3 times in the last 4 years. We brought three other couples this year to let them experience the restaurant. Unfortunately, this time it was not as great as we would have liked. The food took a long time to come, & the dishes were not as great as what we were used to, etc. One of my friend commented that the room temperature was a bit too warm for a comfortable dinner. However, we appreciated very much Céline's hospitality & the rest of the staff. We hope that this was just a blip & not the norm going forward.

A perfect place for a low-key casual celebration or a date night. Our server started by telling us a bit about the restaurant & its seasonal dishes, & that helped us choose. The ceviche-like scallops with strawberries & coulis were the taste explosion, no less; one of my best gastronomic experiences, & I've had plenty on both sides of the pond. For the main course, we had a seabass with salsa & rice pilaf to share. Nothing fancy on the outside; just made to perfection, with all taste hues balanced just right. The dinner started with the restaurant's compliments, grilled slices of focaccia with the absolutely delightful & airy potato mousse with caramelized onions. The local tap lager was well-chosen; tasted almost like light white wine. The Madeira spritz was well-balanced & very refreshing on a hot summer evening.
The restaurant is on rue Principale, but the entrance to it may be hard to notice (it's downstairs from the street level), so it's literally a Magog's hidden gem.
