This place didn't disappoint. Amazing pancakes. A must if you are visiting Montreal.
A cute little breakfast/brunch spot, with retro decor & standard kosher breakfast selection: latkes, creamy scrambled eggs, gravlax on the rye or bagels, & their signature item, an inch thick fluffy syrniki( cheese pancakes). The items on the menu are somewhat limited (as is their coffee selection), but fresh, if a little plain to my taste. It is the service that needs some attention in my opinion.
This is my joint,
Kitchen - Thank you for rocking it so hard !!
Front of house - You guys are so friendly & fun, thanks!!
The pancakes/syrniki were absolutely DELICIOUS. What ruined it for us was the poor service. Our waitress wasn't friendly at all & she barely looked at us in the eye. It felt like we were bothering her. It was my mom's birthday, so it's a special day. You want to feel welcome & at ease. This doesn't happen at Arthur's Nosh Bar unfortunately. What we also found weird was that she was more enthusiastic with the other customers (who happened to look more similar to her...) 🤔
At least we ate well.
I'd like to consider my self a regular, love the staff & the food, I live next door & try to go there as much yet it's harder to go back now... In short good luck on whoe's table/waitress you fall on... I have had to walk out, after resisting multiple bad services: makes you feel like you are a burden, rush you, non smiley , you are a number, cut you mid questions... This has become more regular that the warning I tell people before we come in...'They get busy they might rush you'... The time we left... I was not alone I was enquiring about their menue ... they have a meal that combined pancake & chicken & I had simply forgotten the exotic name etc... & how the conversation went on was bad, during a non busy day (1l2 full)...even the person in my company & not involved with the convo suggested we leave ... So finally after probably 3 bad service experience I had to walk out & apologiesed to the kitchen to cancel my order.... & it will be hard to come back after this... There are a few sweethearts there & it breaks my heart to leave a review of bad service that would impact them but it's been long overdue... The sweet hearts I wish you to have: took their time , tailored my order to perfection, laughing smiling joking, making changes charging me for the obvious big changes or including small changes for free as I am a regular, greeting me in my home language , stoping me in the street to say hi or to pet my dog, asking me how to say things in my native language, exchange about dogs... If we come back I'll definitely ask before hand not to be assigned to particular staff but not sure if like to go through this again.
I went on my lunch hour with my daughter, to celebrate her birthday.
We waited exactly an hour for pancakes,
I understand mistakes happen however we had to ask the waitress if perhaps they had forgotten about our order in which they had once she checked with the kitchen. You would think she would have come to check at our table when we were sitting for so long without our food while others came in after us & got their food before us.
The waitress was not friendly or very apologetic.
Very under whelmed with the service & I don't think I will ever return.
Surprised such a popular place would have such a lousy waitress.
First time eating at the St Henri location. (I usually go to the one in Le Cathcart & have eaten there 3 of times already).
Waiting time was said to be 45 minutes & but we ended up waiting over 1 hour. Our waitress was quick to take our orders & food took a fair amount of time despite the very busy day. So that's pretty good.
I thought the portion in this place was much bigger than the one in Le Cathcart although my PERSONAL OPNION; I prefer the pancakes at Le Cathcart, it was more caramelized on the sides & texture was fluffier. Something about this one was different.
I will stick to the spot at Le Cathcart, mostly because we can book a table in advance & we are sure not to spend 1 hour + waiting for a table.
Beyond the hype, everything here hits. The honey toast is a must order!
Amazing food & service. The latkas & the roast beef sandwich are a must!
Katerina. I will regale the tale of your impeccable service to all future generations of my bloodline. Amazing service, amazing food. Jack Johnson i could kiss you clean on the mouth.
Nous avons attendu 45 minutes avant d'avoir une table mais ils vous envoient un message quand c'est prêt ce qui permet de se balader dans le quartier.
Le pancakes Grand Shlem étaient délicieux, ça valait le coup d'attendre.
Wow, I'm amazed at how good the food here was! My friend & I shared a smorgasbord (we added avocado, bread, & scrambled eggs to make sure it was filling for both) & were so impressed by how good it was! The challah bread is sensational & the scrambled eggs were absolutely divine. Not sure how they managed to make something as simple as scrambled eggs taste as good as it did, but Arthur's really is that girl!
The space is lovely & well-decorated & the staff were very friendly! The only thing I'll say is that it gets rather crowded, we had to wait a bit over an hour to get a bar seats, so make sure to plan ahead.
As of drinks, we got an iced vanilla latte & a London fog - both were good, but nothing extraordinary. The food truly is the highlight!
Call me a purist but Jewish comfort food is best served without the stuffiness & effort of being trendy. For sure there is an obvious market that appreciate the Arthur Shtick.
Myself? I'll trade Arthurs for solid Jewish comfort food without the upsell of glitter &'creative twists' all at the expense of smaller portions. Give me a comfortable booth with the grumpy yet efficient & loving service all at once. Offer me a plate food that includes the appropriate sides.
Food is excellent! The pancake is a meal itself. The perfect balance of sweet & savoury. The staff were great & made me excellent recommendations. I never felt forgotten. A great place for anyone for all occasions
