Review Summary

Annette Bar à Vin is repeatedly praised for its excellent service, warm ambiance, and an outstanding wine list that sommeliers pair thoughtfully with the dishes. The menu is described as creative and delicious, with favorites including beef tartare, fried maitake mushrooms, oysters, and delicate agnolottis, and desserts like panna cotta receiving high marks. The experience is often viewed as refined and lively, with a stylish decor and a pleasant terrace that enhances the visit, and some reviewers note strong counter or private dining moments and engaging wine tastings or brunch options. Some criticisms appear about portions being small for the price, occasional delays in service or drinks, and occasional noise or crowded spaces, though many feel the value is justified by the quality and hospitality. Overall, it is considered a must visit for wine lovers and foodies who appreciate attentive service and inventive cuisine, with many plans to return for dinners, tastings, or brunches, while a minority caution that the experience can vary by night.

Excellent experience with creative food & a spectacular wine list

I went to Annette for a Christmas party with a group, so I will say upfront that it might not reflect the typical experience since the restaurant was hosting several groups that evening.

We had a special group menu with plates to share. The food quality was genuinely good. Everything we tasted was well prepared & flavorful. That said, for the price per person, I was honestly expecting more generous portions. The shared plates were very small, sometimes just a few bites each, which felt a bit disappointing considering that drinks & wine were not included in the set price.

On the positive side, the atmosphere was lively & pleasant, & the service was very friendly despite how busy it was. They also have an impressive wine selection with what feels like hundreds of options, which is definitely a strong point.

Overall, a good experience, but I would be curious to try it on a regular night to get a better sense of it.

Really great wine list a little expensive but worth the price. Romantic & cosy.

Brunch menu was excellent with an extensive wine list. Would easily revisit for dinner menu. Tucked away spot in the city, a hidden gem.

Friendly service. The wine recommendations were good. Nice loungey atmosphere. Everything was well presented.
My biggest disappointment was the seafood salad where the only seafood was mussels.
The beef tartare was delicious. Avonlea is a cheese apparently, wish that was clarified on the menu.
The moelleux/sticky pudding dessert was delicious. A little bit like a Christmas cake because of the cranberries but otherwise perfect, especially with the pecans.

We were looking forward to trying Annette for my bday dinner. Great place with a nice vibe, amazing food, nice wines & cocktails. Service started off great & then everyone went MIA on us. We served our own wine, water glasses always empty, no follow up once plates were served. Very very disappointing when you select a place out of many to experience & spend a good amount $.

Always a great place to go! You go for the wine but end up staying for the food & the ambiance!

Wow. Just wow. Discovery of the year in my neighbourhood. We asked our waiter to surprise us with wines, & we were never let down. Came here for brunch & every dish was out of this world. Will be coming back frequently!

Great selection of wine/cocktails. Serving French dishes with modern twist. Serving size is relatively small, perfect to share for two people. Good service. Nice atmosphere.

Nice place. Reservations recommended.
Service was top notch with both somelier & server being quite knowledgeable.
Quite an extensive wine list including some rare bottles.
Food was so-so, though I did enjoy the fried mushrooms. Porc short ribs were good as well, but we tried several other dishes. They just lacked the pizzaz.

Fantastic service, they let us bring the dog to the patio & it was a lovely meal outside. We had the set course & the staff were lovely to chat with & we had a great meal. The food was delicious, with fresh, in season ingredients. They also had great wine suggestions to pair!

Creative but precisely crafted food. Beef tartare & macreuse are a must for meat lovers. Wine selection is good & cover a large range. Service attentive & courteous, we needed several hit & miss trials to find the right wine for our tastebuds & were patiently accommodated :)

Best wine bar in Montreal

Food was great but overpriced, IMO. Staff was great, service impeccable. Wine choice okay but 23$ for a 3 Oz wine glass was kinda criminal. If your looking for a fun place to talk to friend in montreal great place but make sure your friend's know it's gona be 100$ each minimum. On a side note everyone on the street got a parking ticket that night including me. No parking on that side from 8 to 9 pm...

The service is friendly, knowledgeable & very welcoming. The wine menu has great variety & range. Cocktails were not particularly memorable. For the price of freshness, I was expecting a bit refinement in their food preparation but there were lots of deep fried, & general flavour was bland. It felt that crunchiness was making up for taste, somehow. Lots of nightshades veggies, be aware of you are allergic.

Service was really great. Staff was super helpful & proposing wines, pairings & all. The spot is nice & makes for a cozy & fun experience. Food was honestly a hit & miss. The quality of the ingredients were second to none but the overall offering & the way the menu is structured lets a lot to be desired... Since ( I think ) the menu is build around seasonnal & local ingredients (which is great), many ingredients are repeated in many dishes. So if you don't like some ingredients, you might have to skip 4 or 5 items on the menu. Might not be a problem for some but might be problematic for others. Also, the menu descriptions are so basic that you might not get exactly what you were looking for. For example, they have a fresh pea dip with feta. It was tasty & fresh & everything, but the dish was covered in fresh mint. So every bite tasted like mint. If you don't like mint, you just wasted 16$ on a dish you won't enjoy. Same goes for another dish, the tempura zucchini flowers that are stuffed with some cheese. It's covered in caviar or something similar. The caviar is definitely there to justify the price, yet not mentioned on the menu. Also, some dishes, who are tapas style & meant to be shared, aren't really sharable. Like those zucchini flowers. They come as 3. 3 shares well with 3 person & that's it! The menu should be more descriptive & includes more details. Just naming 3 ingredients might look really fancy & edgy, but it is not very fonctionnal for guests with dietary restrictions or people who don't like certain ingredients or who are closely watching what they eat. I'll go back as the wine selection is great & allows to taste wines who are not readily available elsewhere (SAQ) but I'll definitely need to triple check the menu & ask a ton of questions next time.

Very nice cozy space in the Angus Shop area. Let's start with the wine selection. They have a nice wine list with a lot of private imports. The food is more tapas style. The menu is small, but everything is well prepared. The service is friendly. The staff is attentive to your needs & will never let you have an empty glass (which is a +++ on happy hours!). The sommelier is knowledgeable & will have great recommendations to pair with your snacks. Overall, this is a beautiful place for a chill upscaled happy hour or night out. The vibe & decor makes it very welcoming!
