We were originally attracted to try Alma because it's in the North American Top 50 list - however, the meal was extremely disappointing. We Came as a group of four & got the 5 course tasting menu with no drinks, & it was $145 CAD per person. We all left unsatisfied & felt quite scammed.
The food had NO flavour, & it was such a tiny portion. We had to go to another restaurant to get more food after.
The staff are really nice, but if you're actually looking for a tasty, satisfying Mexican meal, Don't waste your time or money here.
5 stars is not enough I have been to almost every tasting menu in montreal & this experience was above the rest. No more need to look at other places Alma you have my business
Exceptional food tasting experience. Every dish was a hit & they have a great wine menu.
Very cozy little restaurant in Outremont. It's small & intimate. Reservations are recommended because there are only about 20 seats. They offer a tasting menu of high-end Mexican cuisine. We took the 5-course tasting menu because my parents don't eat much. Service here is impeccable. The waitress was very friendly & knowledgeable. The dishes were nicely presented & very tasty. My favourite dishes are the clam & the fish crudo. Very happy that I got to taste these amazing dishes made by Juan.
It's a cozy restaurant in a nice neighborhood. The food was 10/10 amazing. Our favorites were the Duck & Pork Taco. The service there was super nice. Always explaining the dishes to us & making sure our water was refilled or if we wanted any other drinks. They always change their menu every 2-3 months so that their menu is always changing constantly. We got the 9 course tasting menu & it was worth every single penny. Make sure to book in advance so that way you can ensure you have a table. Overall will come again with friends & family. Also one of the cons of fine dining is that typically it takes so long to receive the next dish. I think we received a new dish every 10-15 minutes & if they saw us finished with one they were already preparing the next one to be served.
The food is absolutely spectacular! The service is excellent. The overall experience is so unique by Montreal standards. Both the five course & the nine course tasting menus are totally worthy.
Each time we go it is a marvellous exploration of Mexican cuisine. This is a truly unique experience by Montreal standards & worth every penny.
World class tasting menu. World class wine pairings. Can't say enough good things about this place. A must visit.
Really, really good. Prime food quality & service. We had the 5 services tasting menu.
We got the tasting menu, food very well presented, but portions & flavors were not at its best. We had an apéro before going to the restaurant & after the end of dinner we ended up good in terms of appetite. I can imagine someone going with an empty stomach not having a good time regarding portions. Overused the olive oil in many dishes, lacking acidity on others, two steps were too salty & one dish didn't even have the black garlic mayo (described by the server, when I asked him where the black garlic mayo was located in the taco he pointed me out some fried crunchy pieces of garlic in oil) if you run out of an ingredient communication between kitchen & front of the house is basic so the server will give the proper excuses before & not making him look like a fool.
Enjoyed an amazing 9 course tasting menu paired with unique wines from small batch wineries from the Basque regions of Spain & France. Staff very friendly & service was exceptional. If you're looking for a delicious & artfully created menu with excellent service, look no further. Truly a special experience.
Visiting Alma was one of my top dining experiences ever. A well curated tasting menu, wonderful drink pairings both alcoholic & non alcoholic. The service was incredible, attentive & knowledgeable staff served the dishes & explained each one. We sat at the counter & had a great view of the kitchen & food prep. A very small & intimate dining experience makes sure you get a reservation in advance. We'd been interested in eating here in a previous visit & couldn't get a reservation. However it is more than worth the wait & the hype!
Had a wonderful experience here & was very happy I got to experience this restaurant. I tried a few years ago when I was in Montreal & I wasn't able to get a reservation. It was worth the wait the food was fantastic, a very creative fused menu with excellent service. The ambiance was also great. Low light with a lot of candles. It's a very small restaurant so it feels very private. Hats off to the chef for putting together a fantastic tasting menu.
