Review Summary

325 F - Cuisine de Madagascar is repeatedly described as a warm, cozy neighborhood spot in Montreal that serves authentic Malagasy cuisine with soulful, vibrant flavors, generous portions and affordable prices, with the option to bring your own wine. Reviews highlight a comforting atmosphere and a family run vibe, where the staff are friendly and attentive and the kitchen delivers a range of dishes from ravitoto and rougail saucisses to coconut chicken curry and canard a la vanille, along with mango salad, nems, samosas and beignets, plus memorable desserts and manioc sweets. Several diners note careful preparation, fresh ingredients, and a welcoming interaction from the mother of the owner, which adds to a homey, celebratory mood. While decor, lighting and pace during busy times are sometimes mentioned as areas for improvement, the overall consensus is that the cuisine brings Madagascar to Montreal in a way that feels traditional and inviting, making this restaurant a standout for anyone curious about Malagasy flavors.

Amazing authentic restaurant!! The chef came to our table to get to know us & talk about the restaurant. Amazing service , food was delicious & beautiful restaurant. We had curry chicken, poulet fumé, banane plantain, sambosa, rolls & fried beignets with traditional tea.

I would honestly give 6 stars across the board if I could! I live just around the corner & really regret having never come to the restaurant until tonight. Chef Brian was so kind to come out from behind the counter & greet my friend & I. I have never met a more personable & attentative chef! The food itself was absolutely delicious! My friend & I were really touched by the free donuts, too

Amazing restaurant. The chef & owner is not only talented, but also incredibly kind & welcoming. A cozy & warm atmosphere with delicious flavors. They are also very sensitive to allergies & restrictions, which, being celiac, I really appreciate.

Everything was great, we tried 4 different dishes, as appetizers mango salad & samosas beef, both great & as main dishes coconut chicken, ravitoto & 2 others plus dessert the one with a icecream scope. A must try! Also we asked for spicy sauce & they brought us something homemade, super spicy & so good it could be addictive! Bryan was the chef & he came to the table to ask for our feedback, definitely a a good cozy spot to try in Montreal.

The only Malagasy restaurant in a 6 hour radius of Boston, highly worth the trip! Great, authentic dishes made by a Malagasy chef. They had one of my favorite treats, koba/mofo ravina! Highly recommend

Simply superb! I wish there were more Malagasy places around that offered a menu like this, but if you're anywhere in North America, you have to get to Montreal for this place.

Ravitoto - As a Malagasy person, I am biased as I've been eating this meal since I was a kid. I've seen the good & the bad & this is without a doubt, one of the better dishes I've ever had. The cassava has been simmered down so perfectly that it's almost like a sauce rather than cassava leaves. Protein accompanied with a bowl of rice hits the spot in ways that I can't even explain. Get it. It will not let you down.

Coconut Chicken - Curry-esque & super flavorful, this coconut chicken over rice was absolutely amazing. The sauce is almost gravy like, but with a curry consistency & had soooooo much flavor. Seasoned to perfection, I could get this over & over again & be completely satisfied.

Sausages & Mango Salad - you can tell the chef makes these sausages in-house because they are completely different from anything I've ever had. Very nice, very light, very flavorful. The accompanying mango salad gives you a nice little pallet cleanser to go along with your meal.

Appetizers - We ordered the Nems & the Sambos & they did not disappoint. The Nems are like egg rolls served with the duck sauce & the beef Samos are like a Samosa, but with Chef Bryan's twist of adding scallions inside. Delightful starters.

Desserts - for dessert, we ordered Chef Brian's beignets that were swimming in a sweet glazed sauce & absolutely went perfect with a cup of coffee. He also brought out a cassava bread top with vanilla ice cream, which was amazing. The cassava bread was beautiful in texture & paired well with what I'm assuming was Malagasy vanilla ice cream.

If you like Soursop, there's a soursop ice cream that we didn't try but if it's anything like the soursop drink, it has to be delectable.

If this place were anywhere near me in the states, I'd be here twice a week without fail. If you're lucky enough to be close by or can travel regularly, please do yourself a favor & get here. The atmosphere transports you Madagascar, along with a friendly staff & food made by Chef Brian that will knock your socks off.

C'est magnifique!

Lovely discovery. The only Malagasy food I've tried before going to this restaurant was achard. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, full of flavour & love. I loved the fish & dessert. My partner loved the duck, very unique with the vanilla sauce. The chef took the time to come to the table, asked us how we found the food, his mom was also helping around, talking to guests. I will come back.

Very warm & welcoming atmosphere! You feel like you're having a dinner party at someone's house, & I mean that literally because the mother of the chef came over to each table to say,'hello.'

I have never had food from Madagascar, which seems to be a unique mixture of Asian & African. The seasoning was just a touch salty for me, but I did not eat the curry or stewed manioc leaves with all the rice; I imagine the rice balances it all out. Despite that small blip, I highly recommend this neighborhood gem & I will certainly be back!
