This is without a doubt the best general tao in Montreal & personally I've ever had. You don't pay for fancy dining, or a fantastic atmosphere, you're paying for slightly spicy, crunchy, saucy & tasty General Tao.
I recently visited Wok Cafe in downtown Montreal, & it was a pleasant experience overall. The food was fresh, flavorful, & came out quickly, which I really appreciated.
A special shoutout to our server, Jason, who was friendly & attentive throughout the meal. He made sure we had everything we needed & added a welcoming touch to the visit.
Simple, tasty food & great service-I'd definitely come back!
I went to a Wok Cafe Chinese restaurant & had a nice experience. The food was tasty & served hot. I enjoyed the noodles & fried rice because they were flavorful & well prepared. The staff were friendly & the service was quick. The restaurant was clean & comfortable. Overall, I would recommend this Wok Cafe Chinese restaurant to anyone who wants simple & delicious food.
Best Chinese food in the city. I always love coming here when I visit Montreal. Tasty food, huge portions & great value.
fair prices, low waiting time, amazingly big proportions & tasty food. overall great!
Big, tasty portions at a price that's hard to beat. Everything we tried was fresh & flavorful, & the staff were so friendly. If you're looking for a spot that's both affordable & filling, this is it.
Lovely people, owners & staff. Very welcome atmosphere with open kitchen. Place is clean. I'm nice you order it does not take too long for dishes to be served at the table. Their shumai (dim sum) was tasty & light, some of the pork was a little too chewy. General Tao chicken. Found it to have too much breading & the sauce was not the typical general Tao sauce I'm accustomed to as it seems to have a strong citrus to it but I am really not sure. I actually can't describe what the flavouring was for that matter. Crispy fried sesame shrimp also has an odd sauce that we were not used to & as such was the weakest dish we ordered. Shrimp were properly cooked & not too much breading & nice & crisp on the outside. Chicken in black bean sauce was very tasty but lacking sufficient veggies & not much of them except tons of onions. Luckily the onions tasted fantastic. Chicken was what appears to be white meat & was juicy. Spring rolls were way too greasy & the oil smelled off. The spring roll itself was lacking any real flavour or for that matter sufficient amount of meaningful ingredients & as such we left them over. Their white rice was cooked perfectly The tofu general Tao was surprisingly good. The tofu was cooked to a gentle crisp & then covered in general Tao sauce - the same from the other dish. Oddly the sauce was not too bad on the tofu dish The real star of the were the peanut butter dumplings. This was perfect toy cooked, delicate outer dough, filling was proportionate to the size of the wrap, & the sauce was fantastic. Tip. If you have leftover sauce pour it over your white rice it's awesome. I could just go there for plates & plates of the dumplings.
Price are affordable & large portions very clean & tasty. Most of the Chinese restaurants service are bad. This restaurant gave very welcoming service.
Loved the stir fried rice noodles & the dumpling combo. Very tasty & not salty. My new favorite Asian place.
Place is not particularly nice but big portions, low prices, & tasty food make it worth coming back to
Excellent place to eat~
What I liked:
-Closing very late:
Most of the restaurants in Montreal close around 10 or 11 pm, Wok Cafe is still open until 12am & during the weekends they close at 1 or 2am. For me who sleep very late, that's a nice place to eat when I'm hungry very late at night around midnight. Most of the restaurants are already closed, so Wok Cafe is perfect for closing late.
-The food quantity:
The quantity has larger portions compared to a normal restaurant. I'm very tall (2meters) so I need to eat a lot to get full. Usually the portion offered at a normal restaurant is clearly not enough & I have to order another meal which cost more than 30 bucks for sure. Their portion is bigger, & worth the price (~15 ~20 bucks). When I eat I am not totally full but not that hungry. I would say I'm full at 75% - 80% which is already good to not being starving.
-Friendly staff: Very common, but that's better to eat at a place where the staff is pleasant & friendly than a place where the staff is very unfriendly.
-Noise: I hate eating at very crowded place. I usually go there very late at night so that's perfect. Not that crowded & not that noisy. Very quiet & chill. It may be more dynamic (noisy & crowded) during late afternoon / early evening tho.
-Food quality: I haven't tried other dishes yet. I usually eat that with my friend (check the photos). This one is good if you like to eat something that has taste. I usually take the spicy option which is very tasty.
