White Heron Coffee Griffintown is described as a bright, calm, and aesthetically pleasing cafe where the matcha and latte art are frequently praised and the pastries and cakes are fresh, light, not too sweet, with standout items including strawberry shortcake, sakura matcha, and ube donuts. The space is noted as quiet and comfortable for work or reading, with generous seating and a clean, minimal decor that feels inspired by Japanese cafes and makes it easy to linger while enjoying drinks and desserts. Staff are described as friendly and attentive, and service is generally praised, though a few comments point to occasional delays during busy periods and the occasional inconsistency in beverage tuning. Many reviews mention the wide menu, the quality of desserts made on site, and the relaxing, instagrammable vibe, making it a go to spot for a treat or a study break, while some critique prices or the lack of outlets or shorter weekend hours. Overall, the cafe is portrayed as a reliable destination for quality coffee, comforting sweet bites, and a refined, comfortable atmosphere, with the place frequently recommended for its matcha and cake pairings and its ability to feel like a quiet escape in Griffintown.
I'm really disappointed with my experience at White Heron Café. When I walked in, there were only two customers total (including me). I placed my things on a large table, & another girl was already seated at the other large table. As soon as I went to order, I was immediately asked to move from my table. It made me feel very uncomfortable, especially since the other customer was not asked to move & remained seated.
I didn't say anything at the time because I get anxious in situations like that, but it didn't sit right with me. I would have completely understood if a large group had come in & needed the table, but that wasn't the case.
The matcha was good, but I paid around $7-8 for a very small cup, which felt overpriced. Overall, the experience left me feeling disrespected & disappointed. Unfortunately, I won't be returning.
This is my go to cafe in the area, always clean & calm. Great place to work or grab a coffee to go.
The desserts are different from any other cafe out there they go really well with a coffee.
Matcha Sakura was absolutely amazing!
White Heron Coffee
Just stopped in for a brewed coffee, & like most places in Montreal, I don't know if it's a Quebec thing, but cream seems to be a bit of a premium-hard to come by! Anyway, the coffee was really nicely done. Well presented, served with a glass of water, & made with care.
I'm in Griffintown, & I guess that explains the touch of high-end polish they bring to even a simple coffee stop. I was just heading to the gym & wanted something quick, but ended up with a genuinely good experience.
This place is a weird one. If I had to sum it up in two words I'd say'wasted potential'.
They sell decent beans/brewing gear & the aesthetic is really nice, but it ends up feeling like a facade that falls over pretty quickly. There is absolutely zero atmosphere & neither of the two coffees we were served were dialed in for their tasting notes.
This place honestly feels like a second wave coffee shop masquerading as a third.

The coffee here is absolutely delicious!! They use a really nice blend & the iced latte & iced matcha are 10/10! Lots of space to sit . Nice & quiet in the morning, busy in the afternoon but service is quick & the staff are friendly .
