Our server Jimmy helped us out with his great recommendations on drinks & food.
My husband & I had different opinions about this restaurant... I loved the food (filet mignon & lobster-plate was a bit over priced), the ambiance was rustic & not too noisy, but I must admit the tables are really close to one another not much space & privacy. My hubby did not like his steak (came with not a lot of veggies & a bit of mashed potatoes), he did not feel at ease as a couple waiters bumped into him with he was drinking & made him spill his drink.
Simply put, this was the best steak I've had in my 30 years. The cut was exceptional, the portion generous, & it was more affordable than similar restaurants in the area. My wife & I were pleasantly surprised by how quickly our main course arrived, especially on such a busy night. For the quality & price, I'm almost relieved I don't live in Montreal-otherwise, this would definitely be my go-to spot without hesitation.
We were seated right away & the service was fantastic. Food was absolutely incredible & well worth the price. Ambience was cozy & warm. The experience overall might have been one of the best in recent memory & I cannot wait to return.
Enjoyed our dinner here very much. Our server did a great job & was helpful with advice on the wine selections. Food was delicious & prices reasonable for a steakhouse. Glad we picked it.
Amazing patio & food was to perfect. The service seems to be lacking for this price point. Someone or a couple of someone's where missing from key spot the night we dined on the patio. Food that was ordered & then NEVER brought to us & requested side sauce after cancelling the forgotten food. Had to ask again after 15 minutes for side sauce as it was forgotten about. Server was PO'd at someone who dropped the ball when he walked away. I would definitely eat here again as the food was amazing & maybe they just had a super off night in the kitchen/wait satff area.
Monosh was an excellent server, knowledgeable & friendly. Our food was delicious & well worth the price. I would highly recommend Vieux-Port Steakhouse to anyone.
How has a great establishment fallen. How can a restaurant have so much staff, yet, service is barely acceptable. Having to run down a waiter to get water kn a terrace when it's 30°... comon now. Plates are disappointing for the price. The burrata is meh at best, & the tomatoes it was with weren't even cleaned (white hard stem still in). The calamari were okay but stiff, but for the price? Outrageous. Steaks weren't cooked to asking, & we just ate them to be done. I know it's tourist area priced, but that's just plain rip off. The ONLY saving grace: kids menu. Save yourself the trouble & go to the keg next door.
I enjoyed the outdoor patio & the decor. However, the seating wasn't the most comfortable compared to other restaurants in this category. Including taxes & tip, our bill for two people was over $260. The drinks were fine & met expectations, but nothing significant or memorable. The pour was reasonable for the price. We shared the Fried Calamari, which was perfectly done, & the dessert, a Crème Brûlée, was very good. Here is the big disappointment: Given they are next door to a famous steakhouse franchise, I expected Vieux-Port Steakhouse, a small restaurant, to exceed the quality of a mass-production franchise chain. We ordered two steaks, one medium & the other medium rare. Both were dry & overcooked, & even seemed boiled, with no smoke taste or signs of char-grilled cooking. Thankfully, the sauce made it easier to eat. The staff saw my dry, uninspiring steak but never bothered to ask if I was satisfied with my meal. It felt like she knew & was afraid to ask, perhaps fearful of the owner or chef. Owners should always encourage quality in their food, especially since most people today can make a simple steak & expect a professional chef to do the same. The restaurant had very few patrons, so it wasn't a case of being busy, just a careless Sunday crew (or the B Team). I am typically not this critical in reviews, but at this price point, there is an expectation, especially for a restaurant located in the food capital of Canada. I would encourage the chef to invest in a thermometer for steaks to avoid costly food waste & negative reviews. Given the many positive reviews, I might be an isolated case. I hope to visit again someday with a different experience.
The food at this place is fantastic, especially the incredibly tender meat. The service is also top-notch, with attentive staff ensuring that everything meets your preferences. The terrace has a lovely atmosphere, & the wine selection is impressive. Additionally, the place is impeccably clean. The only thing is, considering the price of the dishes, I think they could improve the presentation.
I wasn't impressed with this place. For the price you pay I would expect to be satisfied. Table of 10 all felt the same. $ 27 for a handful of calamari. Rib steak one of the worse I've had, no marbling hard to chew. We ordered medium wasn't that far off of being well done. For a steak place this unexceptable. On top the Sevice I won't get into it at this point.
I went there with my family last week Very expensive for what you get i had a 16 oz rib steak wich was $69 & it was honestly the IGA quality & cut with some band vegies My wife had a salmon griled with rice also bland My son took kids chicke strips was good My daughter had kids macaroni & chees very spicy & full of garlic for a kid Over all you pay vargas & cue de cheval prices & you get like la bell province quality I will never go back & tell every one to be aware very expensive for what you get also we had calamari to start wich smeled bad The only good thing was our server alan wich was super nice guy & offered us on the house dessert because he knew the food didn't worth the price & quality was cheap please be honest with rewies & tell the truth Thanks
Daughter's 18th birthday. All of us are big foodies. So first thought when main course was served was "Whats the deal with the stingy portions of veggies - 2 or 3 small broccoli florets, a sliced baby carrot" . Oh its the Inflation right ? Flavors are great though. Steak itself was amazing. All of us thought the shrimp cocktail was overpriced for 4 shrimps. Sangria was watery. The specific waiter was courteous but not exactly warm. Personal touch was lacking. Missed an order but was quick to get it. Placed the wrong steak, but we swapped it after he left. It wont be fair if I assumed all waiters are like that. Folks in the neighboring table were very very loud. Thats a very minor point since its very tricky to tell guests to not have a good time. In the end, paid 330+ with tax n tips for 4. Conclusion - Have had way way better overall experiences at the Keg for that price point many times. I always ask myself after a restaurant experience if I will return. Sadly its a no for me.
We are long time devotees of the vieux port brunch buffet. We are very disappointed that they no longer have the buffet for Father's Day. The price is absolutely ridiculous & astronomical for what it is. $70 is a lot of money & they no longer provide a mimosa with that & they used to give the mothers a rose. No smoked salmon!!!! It is not worth the money!
Jo provided excellent service. Great sense of humor John, appreciate you all the helpful staff there. There could have been a bit more lamb in the dinner for that price
I mean, steaks house, & they don't know what a well-done steak is? Service is fine, but the price compared with what you get. Sorry, there are plenty of better options nearby.
The food is ok but nothing special & It definitely doesn't not worth the price!
I always liked this place because the service is fast & they almost always have a table available. The Atmosphere is great, it feels like a steakhouse but the advantage of having a lot of tables makes it a bit less fancy on the atmosphere side. The service is always great, polite & well trained. The food is good as always, but the portions are much smaller than pre covid & the prices are much higher. I still like the place, but I won't be going as often as I used to.
Excellent food, ambiance, & service. Just be aware that all of these have their price. I would definitely recommend it.
