I'd say the lobster was good, but the steak wasn't so great….. One thing I REALLY didn't like was how the tip was handled. Instead of simply giving me the card machine, the server directly asked,'How much would you like to tip me?' I felt very uncomfortable having to say the amount out loud instead of entering it myself. That didn't feel right or professional.
Also, the tables were way too small-more like café tables-which really took away from the dining experience. The overall atmosphere wasn't very nice either.
I came here for my anniversary, & honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place for a special occasion. I was very disappointed. However, if you're just planning a casual dinner, it might be fine…. But just be aware of the tipping here
We ordered the steak & lobster. Both were tasty & well cooked. The waitstaff were kind & pleasant. The only aspect of the service that I didn't like was that they seemed a bit too eager to clear our plates. It felt a bit rushed.
Jimmy was amazing. Out of this world! The stake? A piece of art. The lobster soup, the shrimp all combine to create a symphony of flavour unic to this place. Thank you for existing. Cheers to vieuxportsteakhouse!
Service was really warm & nice & the prices aren't bad at all but the food is quite poor. Crab cake was frozen in the middle, the bread is low quality, steaks were overcooked, lobster was rubber, fries weren't made in house or served hot. I'm sure some people like this traditional (outdated) steakhouse but I won't be returning. No problem & all the best to them!
I would highly recommend this restaurant, the lobster is FRESH, the steak was cooked to perfection & our server Jimmy was attentive, witty, & personable. Beautiful atmosphere & delicious food. 10/10.
We got the lobster linguini & steak frite which were both pretty good. Great vibes in the old port & good service. They gave us a bday cake even after paying & everything. Would recommend.
My husband & I had different opinions about this restaurant... I loved the food (filet mignon & lobster-plate was a bit over priced), the ambiance was rustic & not too noisy, but I must admit the tables are really close to one another not much space & privacy. My hubby did not like his steak (came with not a lot of veggies & a bit of mashed potatoes), he did not feel at ease as a couple waiters bumped into him with he was drinking & made him spill his drink.
We had the ribeye steak & lobster we fast for it to be medium rare & it was exactly what we want, it was so good It was very tender Melt in your mouth juicy a perfect steak I'm getting hungry thinking about it. & the lobster was awesome, cooked just right it came with some very rich melted butter. Our waiter Monosh was excellent & right on when he recommend our wine seeing that we don't know French wines & it couldn't have been a better wine CHOICE. He also helped us decide on which dessert we should have. It was so yummy. Thank you Monosh for doing everything you could to make our evening perfect . Excellent dinner we really enjoyed our evening. Questions
We stopped in for lunch & couldn't have been happier. The service was excellent & the food delicious; a lobster linguine & a salmon dish. All in a beautiful setting
We searched for a bar to have lunch & watch the F1 race on Sunday afternoon. After going into many places along Port Montreal area, we found this spot. The center bar had a TV & were happy to accommodate our impromptu watch party. Good drinks & brunch options, my beef eggs Benedict was on point. Wait staff was quick & a good selection of cocktails to keep us hydrated. Had to also get something lobster related after seeing the live tanks in front & chose the lobster bisque. Great tasting with large lobster chunks.
We went to dinner Sunday night, 9 June. It was GP weekend in Montreal so every place was very busy. We originally had a bad table & asked for one by the window & were told no. But when we ordered a $300 bottle of wine, we were immediately told we could have the table we asked for. The server was in a rush to uncork our wine. He was going so fast that he snapped off the cork halfway leaving cork debris all around the top & neck of the bottle. I was worried about cork particles in the wine so he decanted it (in a rush). Not impressed. We ordered surf & turf x 2. Steaks were way undercooked. Lobster was very good however. But we did not get lobster cracking tools until we were nearly done with our meal. I would not go back on a race weekend. They were way too busy & I should have expected the level of service we experienced. Perhaps we could return on a not so busy evening. Up in the air.
Thank you Vieux-Port Steakhouse staff & especially Elias & our hostess that took our reservation at such short notice (whom I unfortunately cannot remember the name of). We came to celebrate our first wedding anniversary & Elias helped me secure a good table by the fireplace beforehand as well as some choice champagne & wine to go with the dinner, as well as helped make the dessert special too! I had the surf & turf half lobster & steak & she had the striploin. The food was amazing & so was the atmosphere. We were only visiting Montreal but this has definitely been added to our list of reasons to return!
Disappointed with the experience overall. We got the steak with lobster, which the steak was ok, cooked med rare like asked, but the lobster was halved & overcooked. Barely got any lobster. The worst part was when the meal was done, we asked for a to go box & the remainder of the lobster claw that I had just spent time taking apart was DISCARDED & was not even put in the takeout box. They left the box with a more than half eaten lobster carcass. Really disappointed with this as we paid 59$ per plate for this & I couldn't even take it home.
This restaurant has the best grilled steak ever since it's their specialty. I got to taste also the grilled chicken, which tastes amazing as well, & very tender. If you're not a big fan of red meat, they have a big variety of sea food plates including lobsters which I will definitely try on my next visit. Awesome warm ambiance in a cosy historic place.
Stay clear from the French onion soup, it's the worst I've ever had.
The lobster bisque was good.
Steaks are fine, but nothing outstanding, more seasoning is needed.
They did cook them properly (one rare one blue).
The service wasn't attentive, nobody really cared if we were having a good meal or needed another drink.
Surely not the best steakhouse in town, but will do in a pinch.
