The service & staff were amazing, & the music was great. They even brought in a JUNO Award-winning artist-it was fantastic. We rang in the New Year with a package that included a charcuterie board, dinner, dessert, & a champagne toast at midnight. Such an amazing way to welcome the New Year.
It was a great evening: My first real intro to Jazz. Dai Vinci's Code (Cuban band) was phenomenal. My only issue was the back table where we were sitting as it was very uncomfortable to sit sideways on a banquette to watch the show behind us. They did warn us on the reservation. The little TV monitors helped a bit to see the entire band as it was difficult to see from our angle. But overall a great evening. Make sure you reserve as it books quickly. The 615pm show is both dinner & show (each charged separately) & music starts at 7 (to 830) while the 9pm show is only the band (if I understood the website correctly).
While the music was good, the service was a display of unequalled incompetence & quite frankly a sheer disaster. The seating provided no leg room beneath the table, but plenty of opportunity to be constantly shoved by the flux of passage. The amateur with a mustache in particular was so delicate that he spilled water on me & knocked me on the back of my head with a set of plates. The food arrived cold & was as bland & as tasteless as the grit from the back of a dirty fryer. Not a single apology or gesture to compensate for the complete lack of professionalism made this an experience I wouldn't recommend.
Tout était parfait , le serveur était agréable & très souriant . Le cadre très intimiste & chaleureux, & la nourriture était bonne.
Le seul point négatif a été une des serveuse clairement raciste & désagréable, elle m'a demandé de me taire de manière peu correcte sur une table de 15 personnes ( repas d'équipe ) au moment où je ne parlais pas & a débarrassé mon assiette sans me le demander alors que je n'avais pas finis de manger.
Mon boss a alors ouvert une discussion avec elle , & elle ne s'est pas excusé.
C'est dommage, mais je ne blâme pas l'établissement , car comme cité plus haut , l'ensemble de la soirée fut fort agréable.

Great venue, the ambiance is groovy & intimate! The band was GREAT (Remi-jean LEBLANC Quartet PLAYS STEVIE WONDER), unfortunately the vocals were waayyyy too loud (according to my brother's nerdy smartwatch, drums maxed at 85 dB while vocals peaked at over 112dB when she sang her stronger/higher notes, as even when belting, she never held the mic away from her lips). People tensed & winced & some literally covered their ears. We mentioned it to a waiter - in vain. Still, beautiful voice & clever jazz adaptations of Steve Wonder's hits!
Service was great, but the food was generally ordinary. (I don't recommend the ceviche, tacos or burgers) The egg noodles with sun-dried tomatoes & creamy sauce was amazing - & the cheese cake too!
Always a great time at upstairs, amazing atmosphere & staff is super kind. The music is the best you'll get in the city, one of the best spots in all of Montreal.
Enjoyed great food, reasonably priced, with a solid selection of libations. But the best part was the outstanding set by Remy LeBlanc's Christmas Quartet.'Thelonious Monk is Coming to Town' (a la'Blue Monk') was a real treat!
The seating is kind of tight, but not unexpected if you frequent jazz venues. The service was nevertheless quick & efficient. A relaxed & friendly atmosphere. We'll be back next time we're in the 514!
Always a treat, music was AMAZING, food is good, service is friendly. Don't get there as often as I would like but whenever I go, UPSTAIRS always delivers a perfect night out.
