Food & drink prices were reasonable. Overall a great experience & would 100% go again; & recommend a friend to go here.
Everything was perfect; the service, the ambiance, the food/drinks .... & the music form that Trio (Alex, Rémi-Jean & Aaron) was amazing.
We will come back for sure !!!
They should revisited their'vins à la carte' simply not possible to drink it. Surprising for a Jazz bar downtown. Also it took 20 min just to order & we had to insist someone come at our table to take the order.
It was our 1st! We had a truly enjoyable evening for my son's 33rd bday with food & drinks. Taurey Butler was performing with Jim Doxas! Amazing artists in such a charming setup on a cold stormy december night! Memorable!
Relatively fun spot on a Saturday night in Montreal. However, talking during the jazz set was discouraged/not allowed & there was no room for dancing. Understandable considering it is such a small venue, but not what I expected. The nachos we ordered were terrible, but the drinks were fine.
(4.5/5 if I could!)
Don't let the name fool you... Upstairs Bar & Grill is actually downstairs! I got in last-minute off the waitlist for a seat at the bar, & I'm so glad I did.
The vibe is lively & welcoming, with very friendly fellow patrons (definitely a late Gen X/Boomer crowd overall; think relaxed, music-loving regulars rather than rowdy kids). Service was warm & personable; it was a packed house so things were a little slow, but totally understandable & handled with grace.
Food was a standout: I had the salmon salad & it was fantastic. Great value, flavourful, clearly a well-thought-out menu overall. Drinks were also on point: I enjoyed a well-balanced dirty vodka martini made with a new-to-me top-shelf vodka, & the wine selection looked solid.
The space was completely packed, which speaks to how popular it is, though part of me wished there had been room to dance. Can't have it all, I guess!
Would definitely go back for the atmosphere, the food, & that martini. Highly recommend grabbing a bar seat if you can snag one.
Wonderful experience, great server, perfect table, & enjoyable food & drinks.
We really enjoyed the early show & the food/drink was quite good. My wife had the salmon with rice & i had the steak frites. The music was more bluesy the night we went, which we enjoyed.
A must visit Jazz Bar. I was there two out of the three nights I spent in Montreal. Very nice ambience that you would expect in a nice Jazz Bar, friendly service & reasonably priced drinks.
Another amazing night at Upstairs Jazz! We loved Simon Denizart quartet's fantastic piano with drums & base guitar. Food & drinks were delicious as always, & service was quick & friendly. Highly recommended!
If you're looking for a cozy spot to hear jazz then you have to visit Upstairs. Make sure to make a reservation which was easy online. & then get ready for a very intimate jazz club with great food. & of course great drinks. I sat at the bar & had a great time with the server while listening to a really good jazz sextet playing mostly original music.
Music almost every night a week I think….& always changing.
A very satisfying jazz club evening!
Fantastic little cozy venue for both music, drinks & dining! Saw/heard jazz singer Laura Anglade & her 3 person band there last night & she/they were the highlight for me, of this year's Montréal Jazz Festival!
Service was excellent. We were greeted at the door, reservation confirmed & shown to our seats. The menu had great choices & i selected the fish & chips. Drinks & food arrived promptly, & it tasted great. I was hoping for a good show & it far exceeded my expectations. David Marino & the 3 jazz players provided a wonderful evening. I will definitely return.
Excellent food & great music. The service was good in general but the place was packed & we ended up waiting about half an hour before getting the drinks we ordered. Not a big deal but not 5 stars either.
Delicious food & drinks! Service was outstanding including greetings from Joel. Great to be there on the 30 year anniversary & of course listen to Kenny Werner. Highly recommend Upstairs Jazz Bar!

Awesome jazz spot with a great vibe & incredible food. Recommend the Paloma & Billie's Holliday for drinks.
Great drinks & wonderful atmosphere. I can't wait to go back when I'm in Montreal again!
It is very disappointing to come to a show at Upstairs only to find that the piano is highly out of tune from the middle C up. While most places only charge one drink minimum for a Jam session, Upstairs charges a cover & on top of that forces you to consume yet they can't afford to tune the piano. It is disrespectful towards the audience & the musicians! Maybe they think people don't notice but it completely ruins the experience, especially for a piano trio setting. If I were one of the musicians having to perform in such a poor-sounding instrument I would be embarrassed.
Really cool local spot, highly recommend. It was packed & a reservation is an absolute MUST but the jazz music was incredible. I love the swanky atmosphere in the bar area too, I recommend reserving bar seats or seats up front for the best experience of the music. We didn't eat but the food looked & smelled delicious. Our drinks tasted amazing!
