About

Ukiya Izakaya operates as a specialized establishment focused on the traditional Japanese tavern culture of shared plates and charcoal-grilled preparations. The menu features an extensive selection of yakitori skewers cooked over binchotan charcoal, ensuring an authentic smoky depth of flavor. Guests encounter a variety of small plates ranging from marinated sashimi to crisp tempura vegetables, all designed to accompany a diverse selection of Japanese spirits. The interior layout emphasizes a communal atmosphere, facilitating interaction around the central grill station. Expert preparation techniques prioritize ingredient integrity and precise seasoning, reflecting standard practices found in classic izakaya-style culinary environments. Every dish undergoes rigorous inspection to ensure adherence to high production standards, resulting in a consistent experience for those seeking focused, flavor-driven Asian cuisine in an open-concept setting.

Review Summary

Ukiya Izakaya generally receives high praise for its vibrant atmosphere, creative cocktails, and consistently fresh sashimi. Many patrons appreciate the generous happy hour deals and the quality of shareable tapas, such as dumplings and takoyakis. While the service is frequently described as friendly and attentive, some diners have noted occasional inconsistencies in timing and food preparation, particularly regarding the all you can eat menu. Overall, it is regarded as a popular, reasonably priced destination on the Plateau for those seeking a lively dining experience with a modern aesthetic.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, with pleasant décor & very friendly, attentive staff. Service was quick & the team was welcoming throughout the visit.

However, the food was somewhat disappointing. The beef & lamb were quite overcooked & lacked flavor, so most of the taste came from the sauces rather than the meat itself. The chicken also seemed lightly seasoned, again relying mainly on the sauce for flavor.

The shrimp tempura was overly fried, which made it feel more like eating very crispy batter with a hint of shrimp rather than shrimp tempura.

Other dishes were decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Overall, the food is perfectly edible, but it may not meet expectations if you're looking for very flavorful or high-quality dishes.

ThAnd snow my kind of Japanese restaurant- no sushi at n the menu! Sure they have sashimi, & nothing against sushi per se - when it's done as a high level food experience (almost never in the west), it's excellent; usually, it's fast food.

In this down tempo At Denis eatery their menu has a huge array of fair priced appetizers that are more than filling (& perfect for sharing) as well as ramen & bao & larger plates.

Their sake based cocktails & large selection of sake are impressive. & highly recommended are the grilled oyster mushrooms.

For me, attention to detail is what takes this place to another level - no ice in the water they serve you, the miso soup is dark, food is sometime served on long wooden planks for large groups. Awesome!
