Uchi Montreal Restaurant: Menu, Reviews & Reserve (2026)
JapaneseSushiSzechuanBring your own wineCatering
Located in the popular neighborhood of Village/Centre-Sud in Montreal, it is becoming increasingly difficult to choose among the many Japanese restaurants that are sprouting like mushrooms. Fortunately for everyone, restaurant Uchi on Amherst Street is here to reassure us that there's nothing to worry about, this is a true Japanese restaurant.

Uchi proposes a unique and varied menu consisting of appetizers, seafood and tasty rolls. Their mouth-watering small hors d'oeuvres will beautifully compliment the delicious main meals of this unrivaled cuisine. We can also find on the menu some specialties such as sushi, tuna Tataki, spicy scallop roll and beef sashimi. Furthermore, we added Szechuan cuisine to our menu. This cuisine is prepared with spices that will warm up any adventurer.

Although the decor is of a sleek and modern Japanese style, you will quickly figure out that you will not be coming back here for it's decor alone, but also for the very high quality food that is served to you!

Review Summary

Uchi is described as a go to spot for fresh sushi and well executed Japanese and Chinese dishes, with many noting the sushi as among the best in town and consistently fresh whether dining in or ordering takeout; the BYOB policy is frequently praised as a value add; the atmosphere is warm, refined and cozy, though some voices find the dining room loud and echoey and lighting could be softened; service is generally attentive and friendly, with quick, courteous staff, while a few experiences report slower or less smooth service on busy evenings; the menu is broad and well regarded for variety and quality across sushi, noodles, and Chinese items, though a few reviewers mention that some maki lean more toward rice than fish; Uchi has been a staple for years, noted for a recent reopening after renovations, and is seen as a reliable choice near the village with strong repeat visits and good value for the price; overall it stands out as a top sushi option in the area, loved for the freshness and the option to bring your own wine.

The sushi is super good quality. I loved their lychee roll, absolutely delicious. Their prices are super fair. My partner & I ate a ton of food for 50$ each with tips & tax. Service was great. The servers were very caring & attentive. I really liked everything I ate, specially the garlic mushrooms. If you are looking for a great sushi place rhat is BYOB, look no further. The matha ice cream was also delicious!

Their hot dinner combos are delicious! I had the General Tao, brown fried rice with chicken & shrimp, spring rolls, soup wonton, miso soup, calamari & the dessert cake is a yummy delight!

Easily some of the best sushi I've ever had. This is really a true gem & we stumbled upon it as we are staying in a hotel near the restaurant. Service was amazing - the staff were so attentive!! The fish is insanely fresh & each roll exceeded our expectations. We will for sure be coming back!!!

We decided to go for sushi after coming back from a day in Quebec city.

Food - We ordered several rolls, edamae, vegetable gyoza & various pieces of sushi. We were excited that our rolls came on a boat, as this doesn't happen often in Alberta unless you order a set boat meal. Everything was good & the pieces of sushi were generous in size. We definitely left with our bellies full & everything was good but there wasn't anything special about the rolls.

Service - The service was great. We were greeted promptly & staff checked on us frequently.

Atmosphere - Restaurant was cozy & quiet.
