About

Uchi serves a distinctive culinary synthesis that balances delicate Japanese sushi craftsmanship with the bold, tongue-numbing heat characteristic of traditional Szechuan preparations. The menu features a rigorous selection of fresh raw fish presentations arranged alongside complex, spice-forward stir-fries and aromatic noodle bowls. Culinary execution relies on the precise application of heat and peppercorn-infused oils to elevate the natural flavors of high-quality seafood ingredients. The dining space emphasizes structural simplicity to focus attention entirely on the vibrant colors and varied textures of the food. Diners encounter a clear departure from standard fusion tropes through a disciplined commitment to authentic flavor profiles from two distinct regions. This establishment maintains a focused approach to food preparation, ensuring that each component of the meal retains its signature sensory identity throughout the service.

Review Summary

Uchi consistently receives high praise as a neighborhood staple, renowned for its exceptional sushi and high-quality Chinese dishes. Guests frequently highlight the attentive and professional service, the reasonable pricing, and the added appeal of being a bring-your-own-wine establishment. While some diners mention that the space can become quite loud and echoing, the overall consensus is that the fresh, flavorful food and consistent quality make it a top-tier destination that is well worth visiting.

Let's get the only good part out of the way : the food is delicious.

We arrived at 6:15PM, were sat in the middle of a very noisy restaurant. Felt like a loud cafeteria.

Behind us were several other empty tables, including a banquet. Two minutes after sitting down, a family of four were sat next to us with screaming, unbehaved children. Knowing this would be an issue, we asked to be seated a bit further down. Before I could even finish my sentence, the waitress cuts me off & says it's reserved & they do not allow table switches.

Throughout the evening, the banquet that was « reserved » was seated 90 minutes later. It took them an hour to pour a soup & toss a small salad. We then got served our sushi a full 100 minutes after arriving. Everyone was wondering where their food was.

The service was dreadful. The children next to us were sitting, bottom down on the table, yelling… it was a shock to have such uncivilized children next to us with waiters enabling it. Note to families,… if you have young children at home, just stay home on Valentine's day. Don't ruin it for literally everyone else.

While the food was good, it's not worth waiting two hours for once seated, & certainly not a great experience when you're waiting an hour for a salad entrée with misbehaved children & incompetent parents close by with an unsupportive waiting staff.

Belle place, excellent service. Très déçu de la bouffe. Des dumplings au porc sans viande à l'intérieur & la soupe Tom Yum avec les fruits de mer surcuits & un bouillon qui goûte la sauce tomate éclaircie à l'eau.

The sushi place we wanted to try is gone so we found this one instead. So glad we did! We brought our own bottle of Sake ( wish Ontario restaurants allowed this). We ordered the Bateau 4, which is a selection of different items & came with soup (3 to choose from) & a salad (2 or more to choose from). The green salad we picked was amazing. Fresh & really delicious dressing. Our selection of sushi was exceptionally good, & they are very generous with the ginger & Wasabi. Our server was very attentive, noticing my fondness for ginger, he brought extra beyond what I needed. Quick to clear plates & bring whatever we asked for. I highly recommend this place & I'd definitely go back!

Their hot dinner combos are delicious! I had the General Tao, brown fried rice with chicken & shrimp, spring rolls, soup wonton, miso soup, calamari & the dessert cake is a yummy delight!

It was our first visit to Uchi but not our last! From the moment we entered, we were well taken care of. The place is simple & not too big. There were a few groups celebrating occasions.

We ordered a boat for 2 but it could have easily served 3 people - generous & just awesome. The best ever! We had a soup & salad as well included in the price of $70. It was good value to say the least. Very fresh food & creative. The sushi pizza was unbelieveable!

It's a BYOB restaurant & that's another plus. We hope to go back, again & again!
