Review Summary

Reviews of Tropical Paradise highlight a lively Montreal spot for Caribbean comfort food, with generous portions, fresh tasting dishes, and a broad menu that includes roti, doubles, jerk chicken, oxtail and goat doubles; oxtail is often praised as fall off the bone tender and flavorful, while chicken can be variable and some find it lacks flavor, though chicken roti is frequently delicious and doubles are repeatedly praised; service is fast and friendly, staff are welcoming, and takeout and a terrace are noted as convenient, making Tropical Paradise a go to for flavorful Caribbean food in the city, with many reviewers saying it is among their favorites and that they will be back.

This is some amazing authentic rotis, super delicous, well cooked. Lots of curry deliciousness. I'd recommend the goat. It's heavy on the sauce so I ate it with a nice bowl of rice, not sure if they have rice but I ate it at home with rice & it was soooo good. Great spot for take out!

I'm from out of town & was looking for some good Jamaican food. But, I found this Trini spot & decided to try it. The food was decent. Oxtail was too sweet for my liking. It's just not what I'm used to. I guess that's how Trini people cook their oxtail. The flavor was good, though. Also, I had the curry goat roti. This was a bit disappointing in the sense that there were no bones. I've never had de-boned curry goat before. But again, the flavor was good. Overall, the food was good & the service was definitely on par!

3.5 stars - Despite the food actually being fairly good, & some of the better Caribbean i've had in Montreal, I had a few issues with our order. First & foremost, the double was not a double. By definition a double contains a chickpea curry so I was expecting that plus the protein (chicken) & the traditional sauces. No chickpeas (thus no curry) & no sauce, just over cooked / dry chicken. The flavor of the chicken was good but still very disappointing as a meal. The jerk chicken plate, again tasted good, but was also over cooked & dry, even the dark meat. Again no hot sauce or anything to help with moisture. Ive never ordered from a Caribbean restaurant that didn't give hot sauce &/or picklez on the side. Also everything comes in a trio which means pop & rice. We don't drink pop & find it odd to give rice with a roti. No option to choose what your side or drink is. (I would have gladly taken sorrel & coleslaw.) I feel like more flexibility in ordering would have enhanced the meal.

Delicious food & great cook, I've ordered multiple times over the past years. The jerk chicken is 10/10, the curry goat roti is also 10/10. You can't really go wrong when ordering out or eating in, the food is always 10/10 The prices might be a little high but it's worth the price you're paying i've never regretted it once ordering a $50-$60 meal from here. I always receive great quality compared to other less desirable Caribbean places.
