It was more than a meal, it was a superfluous gastronomical experience. I still consider returning to Montreal just to go back to Toqué every year. They are doing things with food there which I did not know was possible. Treat yourself & you will see what I mean.Voir plus
Nostalgia is often wasted energy. Twenty years ago we had a fabulous dinner at Toqué. We should have let our memory remain in 2004. Tonight's meal was the most expensive of our vacation & one of the worst. For $420 Canadian with a 20% tip, the cheque was highway robbery. The space had not changed much since 2004 & was dated. What was ahead of its time twenty years ago is now behind the times. Again, we sat at the bar, but we might as been at a two top. The staff was professional, but they reserved their warmth & friendliness for the local French speakers. Camaraderie was around us, but never directed to us. Americans, caveat emptor. Menu offerings read well, sounded great, & looked nice, but the dishes themselves lacked harmony. The asparagus with lobster appetizer was the best taste of the night. My Foie Gras Terrine was a simple pâté accompanied by some discordant jelly & strawberries. It was served with one stingy piece of toasted bread. Walleye, described as such: "Seared walleye confit fennel, fiddlehead, swiss chard stuffed with oyster, pak choï, gremolata, green garlic & smoked butter sauce" was a mess. While the walleye was cooked well, it was bland, & the Swiss chard, & greens overwhelmed the mild taste of the fish. The chef was using seasonable ingredients without thinking of the gestalt of the dish. Nothing went well together. The "Cavatelli with grilled lobster & mushrooms, roasted garlic purée, dulse, asparagus, hazelnut, mizuna purée, Parmigiano Reggiano mousse 68" lacked any harmony. The combination of the ingredients made no sense as a whole. Three out of four dishes were bad. Service was haphazard. We didn't know who our bartender or server was. Pacing was off with too long of a wait between the appetizers & entrees. Our dinner was not good, & the experience was sad. I yearned for Monarque, L'Express, & Lawrence. With two glasses of wine, two cocktails, the total bill was over $400. I felt fleeced.Voir plus
Great place. Intresting food with high quality products. We did enjoy, but we left without that « oomph ».Voir plus
Normand Laprise, one of Quebec's most respected chefs, is known as the godfather of Quebec cuisine, & his reputation extends far beyond Canada's borders. Accompany the foodie who eats all over the world to eat in Montreal, you can only come to Toqué!I was lucky to get a reservation on the same day.The ingredients are well matched, the sauces are fresh & rich, & the sommelier recommended wines that were very good & matched the meal. we ordered the grilled quail, lobster, & it was beautiful & delicious. It's even better if the skin of the white asparagus is cleanly removed.😋 Costs for 2 people,$350Voir plus
Nous avons pris le menu dégustation qui fut exceptionnel. Service incroyable !Voir plus
I had the most wonderful evening at Toque! I ordered the champagne tasting, oysters, the degustation menu & the wine pairing. Everything was wonderful starting with the team. They were kind enough open their patio just for me!! I will be back next time I am in Montreal ! I highly recommend !!Voir plus
Had a beautiful meal with friends here. We didn't want a long dinner so we opted for the a la cart & it was exceptional. I had the beef carpaccio & the lobster cavatelli. Both were delicious! The interior had very odd color choices & felt quite dated however that didn't detract from the food.Voir plus
Went for lunch, amazing food & service, surprised me positively. Had an off-menu lobster/asparagus dish (very good), a pasta dish with mushrooms & other stuff (strong woodsy flavor that I loved), & a maple-based dessert (amazing). They have good optional wine pairings in the lunch table d'hote menu with half-glass or full-glass options which is great if you don't want to drink too much, & unlike most high-end wine pairings worldwide, these actually pair well with the dishes. Will probably come back for the dinner menu next time I'm in town.
Foie gras de canard, doré, & chocolate torte were an excellent mix of flavours with perfect presentation. Rioja wine pairing worked well. The limoncello-chartreuse-gin cocktail of the day was well balanced but could have had better presentation considering how elaborate the food was. Excellent service from both the hostess & server. Friendly, helpful, & efficient. Cute decor, could have put a little more effort into music.Voir plus
Went for our anniversary dinner had a wonderful experience very nice quiet atmosphere custom made non alcoholic cocktails were made to our liking. I am celiac & the kitchen was very accommodating including making a few custom dishes just for me when I couldn't have others on the tasting menu. Would recommend. In fact I have reservations to go again later in the yeaVoir plus

Toqué is a culinary gem that truly delivers an exceptional dining experience through its "menu dégustation". From start to finish, this restaurant exuded excellence in service, presentation, & taste. Upon stepping into Toqué, we were greeted with impeccable service that set the tone for the evening. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, & made us feel welcomed & at ease throughout the dining experience. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the seven-course tasting menu that proved to be a culinary journey like no other. Each dish was not only beautifully plated but also showcased a careful balance of flavors that left us wanting more. From the first bite to the last, every course was a delightful surprise, showcasing the chef's mastery in combining ingredients to create a symphony of taste. My girlfriend, Julie, & I were thoroughly impressed by the thoughtful execution of each dish & appreciated the attention to detail in every aspect of the meal. ... & the champagne pairing was excellent.Voir plus
I visited here last winter, & it was one of the best fine dining experiences ever. I especially recommend the foie gras. I am willing to visit again if I get the chance.Voir plus
My recent visit to Toqué left me utterly disappointed, to say the least. From the moment I attempted to address my concerns with one of the co-owners, it became evident that arrogance overshadowed any willingness to acknowledge the shortcomings of the establishment. Despite the hefty price tag attached to the experience, the level of excellence promised was nowhere to be found. While the plain oysters were passable, the lack of creativity in their presentation left much to be desired. The option to choose between lemon, a spicy elixir, & shallots vinegar dressing felt more like a DIY experiment than a carefully crafted dish. Moving on to the pétoncles, they were bland & underseasoned, failing to meet the expectations set by a restaurant claiming to be among the best in Montreal. The final blow came with the duck, recommended by the server but lacking any discernible flavor. It was a stark reminder of the decline this once-revered establishment has experienced. What truly soured the experience, however, was the dismissive attitude of the co-owner when confronted with honest feedback. Instead of addressing my concerns, she chose to deflect & minimize, even going so far as to imply that my opinions were unwelcome. In conclusion, Toqué is a shadow of its former self, relying more on reputation than on the quality of its offerings. As a patron, I expected better, & I implore others to explore their dining options elsewhere before committing to a reservation here. Arrogance may have its place, but it certainly won't keep this restaurant alive in the long run.
