Came here several times. First time today I didn't become full from the meat thali. Not enough butter chicken & too much rice. I will not be fooled! There must be perfect balance. When i get full, I pass out. Not today. :(
Very disappointing delivered meal. We didn't like the butter chicken (tasteless), the lamb (tough meat), naan bread (was not well done), etc.
Thali is one of my favorite Indian places for a quick meal. The food is always ready, all you have to do is choose what you want. This is a family owned restaurant, the flavours are authentic & feel like it was home made. The only issue is the consistency, the food can taste slightly different from time to time depends on who is the chef on that day.
It is very cheap compared to other places in Montreal, for 15$ you can get a big plate with rice, lentil soup, naan, & 3 curries of your choice. My go to are the butter chicken & the palak paneer.
So, we've now sampled the entire menu over a few weeks.
& the verdict is out: it is very meh. But thankfully they aren't the only brown spot in the area anymore.
The naan is somehow burnt & raw. Like thawed uncooked chapati.
Rice is nothing to write home about, but edible.
The veggies & legumes are all just fine.
The desserts…. a-ok.
The beef tastes like bark.
The lamb is ordinary.
The chicken is very good.
But the butter chicken? I suspect their sauce's secret is Kraft Dinner powder.
It used to be very good (many years ago). Not sure what happened! We would order often in the past & were never dissatisfied, what a shame.
Only thing worth something is the samosas! For 1.75$, they are actually very good & filling. Ideal for broke students!
I'm giving an extra star for the very clever comment replies that the management leaves! Pure snotty gold! But seriously, don't go there. We have so many alternatives now.
A flavour of India!! Loved their food. You'll get roti, nan, samosa, chicken curry, lamb curry, paneer, fuchka, snacks, what not!! Quality & quantity both are good. Good for a takeaway/ dine in, they are super quick in food delivery.
The best butter chicken ever. Was definitely delicious
Thali is my go-to for Indian street food. I always get the non-vegetarian thali with butter chicken, palak paneer, & lamb curry-but the vegetarian options are just as good! I also love their garlic naan & samosas, & the staff is always super friendly.
Best Indian food in Montreal! I know the place since over 15 years, it's legendary! Amazing tasty food, generous portions, low prices, spicy just perfect, all their dishes are delicious, my favorites are the butter chicken, palak paneer, lamb curry, their naan & rice, gulab jamun, & tandoori chicken! But really, everything is excellent! I love how the taste of dishes is constant & always great, that you can count that it is always good, also not oily. The family is so nice, polite, & makes it a great experience! I like how it's not a service at the table, more like a buffet that they serve you, nothing fancy & friendly ambiance! A must if you visit downtown Montreal! Don't miss it!
The butter chicken was very tasty to me. Also had their beef but the soup of it felt watery. Pani puri was not good at all. I thought the place & people were good until the guy with the big eyes kept looking at my female friends' bare legs as she was wearing a skirt. I kept wondering why he kept looking at my table, specifically towards her. Then we were leaving & he kept his gaze on her legs. Very uncomfortable. That moment was when we will never come back again despite the authenticity it brought & the good meals (aside from the pani puri & the watery beef).
The food is fresh late evenings if your ordering non-veg thali in the afternoons never try chicken curry & butter chicken coz you would probably get rotten chicken
Really love this place. My favourite desi food in downtown. My go to is the meat thali with: lamb curry, chicken curry & Aloo gobi. Food is always consistent & affordable. The portions are big & very filling. Also would like to mention the employee at the register Nitin, who is very welcoming & a treat to talk to. It was very nice to see him treat all his customers with care & sincerity.
Delicious mango lassi, spicy vegetarian samosa, chicken wrap & dessert!
I love this place plain & simple. Had to leave a review. The food is excellent, the staff is very kind & friendly not to mention fast with your order. & the prices are extremely reasonable in this economy. I just tried their butter chicken for the 1st time & it was out of this world. If you're reading this, definitely try it for yourself. Also recommend the Samosas in general. So yummy!
I came here yesterday night with my family & I ordered butter chicken that was very tasty & delicious 🤤
This place is unique in both its butter chicken dish & vegetarian buffet choices. Definitely delicious for the price you pay. At less than 10 dollars a meal incl. Tax the food is flavourful & you will finish your plate!
A slightly larger portion of meat would probably be appreciated in terms of how many pieces you are given per choice.
However, having dined here many times, I would recommend it. Quick, yummy & filling (to a point).
