I recently visited Thali Cuisine Indienne & had both the vegetarian & non-vegetarian thalis.
Vegetarian Thali:
Onion Curry: 10/10 ⭐ - Absolutely delicious & full of flavor.
Baingan Bharta: 9/10 - Smoky, well-seasoned, & very enjoyable.
Palak Paneer: 7/10 - Good, but could have had a richer flavor.
Served with rice & naan.
Non-Vegetarian Thali:
Chicken Curry: 10/10 ⭐ - The standout dish; perfectly spiced & very flavorful.
Butter Chicken: 7/10 - Decent, though it didn't stand out compared to the chicken curry.
Lentils (Dal): 7/10 - Good, but fairly average.
Served with rice & naan.
I'd definitely recommend this restaurant, especially for the onion curry, chicken curry, & baingan bharta. If you enjoy authentic Indian thalis with generous portions, it's well worth a visit. Overall rating: 8.8/10.
(This is a review on my past order from Thali, this does not reflect my opinions & thoughts on their food overall)
Today I ordered my usual, which is the Khadi & Butter Chicken (2 BC & 1 K / 2Meat 1 Veg). This is a usual order for me, the butter chicken is great, much better than most places I've had & the Khadi is my absolute favourite dish. Everytime I order, things are consistent & delicious. However, this order was really unfortunate. I am not posting this because I am upset but disappointed & I'm sure this is a one time thing. Long story short, my butter chicken came burnt. Imagine a burnt Mac & cheese flavour & it was the exact same. I don't know how they prep food for take-out orders, but I was really bummed when I had my first bite & the sauce was very burnt & practically inedible.
I have been eating here for the almost four years I've lived in the city, & I've tried many places but stay loyal to Thali for its prices, food & quality service. The review I left in stars is how I felt & still feel about it, but I felt the need to post my problem today as I hope this isn't something that continues on.
All the best to the staff at Thali, as you guys do great work still!
If you want quick Indian , went there 4 times. The value is unbeatable. For $15-17 you get a huge plate with rice, lentil soup, naan, & three curries & meal is filling. The butter chicken was really good & the bread too was fresh. Actually the food was consistent all the time. The place needs to be more cleaned, but still 4 stars.
One of the best butter chickens ive ever tasted! Cant stop ordering on uber, Also AMAZING prices cant go wrong
Came here several times. First time today I didn't become full from the meat thali. Not enough butter chicken & too much rice. I will not be fooled! There must be perfect balance. When i get full, I pass out. Not today. :(
Very disappointing delivered meal. We didn't like the butter chicken (tasteless), the lamb (tough meat), naan bread (was not well done), etc.
Thali is one of my favorite Indian places for a quick meal. The food is always ready, all you have to do is choose what you want. This is a family owned restaurant, the flavours are authentic & feel like it was home made. The only issue is the consistency, the food can taste slightly different from time to time depends on who is the chef on that day.
It is very cheap compared to other places in Montreal, for 15$ you can get a big plate with rice, lentil soup, naan, & 3 curries of your choice. My go to are the butter chicken & the palak paneer.
So, we've now sampled the entire menu over a few weeks.
& the verdict is out: it is very meh. But thankfully they aren't the only brown spot in the area anymore.
The naan is somehow burnt & raw. Like thawed uncooked chapati.
Rice is nothing to write home about, but edible.
The veggies & legumes are all just fine.
The desserts…. a-ok.
The beef tastes like bark.
The lamb is ordinary.
The chicken is very good.
But the butter chicken? I suspect their sauce's secret is Kraft Dinner powder.
It used to be very good (many years ago). Not sure what happened! We would order often in the past & were never dissatisfied, what a shame.
Only thing worth something is the samosas! For 1.75$, they are actually very good & filling. Ideal for broke students!
I'm giving an extra star for the very clever comment replies that the management leaves! Pure snotty gold! But seriously, don't go there. We have so many alternatives now.
