ChineseComfort FoodAsianVegetarianSzechuanCatering
Named after the Yangtze River, the longest waterway in Asia, represents an important gateway into China’s rich culture and history. Being one of the first neighbourhood Chinese restaurants in Montreal, it is renowned for its family dining experience, and has enjoyed a large and loyal clientele since its inception. This proud "institution", as its regulars likes to call it, is famous for its Egg Rolls and have been called the "best in town". In addition to those golden delicacies, the Wonton Soup, Yangtze Spare Ribs, Pineapple Chicken and Shrimps with Lobster Sauce are also favourites among Montrealers as well as former residents of the city who flock back when visiting. RESTAURANT TCHANG KIANG, was founded more than 35 years ago. This establishment was appreciated by many loyal customers and is recognized as one of the outstanding Chinese restaurants within the NDG area. Along with its many other Szechuan and Peking speciality dishes, this restaurant will surely satisfy any cravings.

Review Summary

Overall, reviews describe mixed but largely positive experiences at Tchang Kiang By Yangtze, with many praising tasty, freshly made dishes such as pineapple chicken, duck, garlic spareribs, egg rolls and soups, and even new favourites like crispy pork with black mushrooms; some concerns include smaller portions over time and occasional dishes that are not as flavorful or are overcooked, as well as a few notes about takeout versus dine-in experiences, with the restaurant described as a long-standing neighbourhood staple that has been a go-to for Christmas Eve dinners and celebrations, generally clean and staffed by courteous service, and with guests who would return or recommend it when seeking reliable comfort Chinese food.

The name Yangtze has been an institution in Montreal for many years. I remember from a very young age going to eat there when they were located on Van Horne Avenue. Besides the prices not much has changed as far as Quality food & great service. The Egg rolls & won ton soup are still the best in the city. The only food change is the pineapple chicken. They use breaded chicken balls now instead of odd shaped pieces of chicken that's breaded. I think I prefer the old way.
The food was served hot & fresh & very prompt. I truly recommend Yangtze to anyone that loves traditional Chinese food.

Our server was courteous & friendly. They play very relaxing backgroud music at a low volume. The food was very good as usual. They make the best egg rolls & chicken chow mein.Prices are reasonable too. I would recomend it to anybody who likes chineese food.

We went to Yangtze on Sherbrooke & were very pleasantly surprised. With memories of the old Yangtze on Van Horne (with,as everyone knows, the best egg rolls in the city), we were unprepared for the lovely, comfortably elegant, youthful, jazzy vibe of the new & improved Yantze. Food was delicious. You can order the old west-end favourites like the egg rolls - still worth it - & pineapple chicken, or delightful szechuan specialities. Ambiance & service were great. A really good neighbourhood restaurant!
