The broth is light & sweet, like it's made from simmered bones, not MSG. The tempura shrimp rolls are crispy & don't get greasy even after sitting for a while. The staff are enthusiastic & always smiling, which I really appreciate.
Last weekend, my whole family visited Sushi Rosa & everyone praised how delicious it was. The sushi rolls here are quite uniquely creative, & the rich sauces are very addictive. My kids especially loved the egg rolls & the crispy tempura shrimp. The price matches the quality, making it a place well worth returning to with the family.
My visit to Sushi Rosa exceeded all expectations. The menu offered a fantastic variety of sushi, sashimi, & specialty rolls. Everything arrived beautifully plated & looked as amazing as it tasted. The quality of the ingredients was outstanding & noticeably fresh. The staff provided excellent service & were happy to answer questions about the menu. The restaurant had a warm & comfortable atmosphere that made the evening even more enjoyable. Every bite reflected great attention to detail & care. I left impressed by both the food & the hospitality. Sushi Rosa has earned a loyal customer.
With over 1,700 reviews & a 4.7-star rating, it's almost inevitable that people are misled by the Google rating.
There are simply too many fake reviews, & the genuine opinions get buried.
In fact, the one-star reviews sound far more truthful-& I completely understand their frustration.
It's really disappointing - & honestly unpleasant - to have come across another restaurant like this again in Montreal.
First, the positives:
The taste was decent, & the person who seemed to be the owner was quite pleasant & polite.
However, the rest of the experience was terrible.
The young woman serving tables was openly unfriendly - her attitude was written all over her face. She was inattentive, offered no explanation of the dishes, & made the whole experience uncomfortable.
The food itself consisted mostly of standard tempura rolls & avocado rolls - nothing special, but not bad either.
(Of course, it's not authentic sushi by any means, but it was edible.)
That said, the rolls were poorly made - the seaweed wasn't sealed properly, & everything fell apart. That's basic sushi technique.
As for sashimi & nigiri, the prices were outrageously high, so I didn't even bother ordering them.
Drinks were another problem.
They offered only warm canned beer (Sapporo, 350ml - other reviews mention $9 each) & what appeared to be a very overpriced bottle of white wine (Cloudy Bay 1L, basically a cooking wine).
There was no drink menu & no visible prices - quite questionable for a sushi restaurant.
Even at peak hours on a weekend, the restaurant was nearly empty - which says a lot about how genuine those reviews really are.
Loud, intrusive music & an excess of fake flowers completed the odd atmosphere.
The worst part was the order mistake & how they handled it.
Since portions were small, I placed a second order - but it was completely forgotten.
When I asked about it, the waitress insisted, in a condescending tone, that I hadn't ordered anything, & even looked irritated.
However, I wrote the order down on paper again & handed it over.
A while later, it seemed they finally found the paper, & she came back saying,'It'll be ready in five minutes.'
By then, more than 30 minutes had already passed. I told her not to bother anymore.
Then came the bill.
I asked for a receipt, but was told to pay at the counter near the exit - not at the table.
No itemized bill, just a total amount to pay.
When I asked again for a receipt, I was given only a vague credit card slip - no details, just the total: over $500.
I didn't complain, but the owner, perhaps feeling bad, gave me a 5% discount - though the minimum tip was still 15%.
I have no idea how much that'cooking wine' cost me.
As I was leaving, someone mechanically asked,'How was your meal?'
But in that situation, what exactly was I supposed to say? & honestly, what's the point of asking that question?
I've visited over 200 restaurants in Montreal & have found many truly wonderful ones - but it's disheartening that there are still places like this, with artificially inflated ratings that mislead customers.
While wandering downtown we were craving sushi & Rosa sushi was the first restaurant that came up when looking. How happy am I that I took a chance on this place! It's a little unassuming when you first sit down but honestly the quality of sushi was the same as some VERY expensive sushi restaurants I've tried. The rolls were stuffed with massive pieces of fish, not too much rice, so you could immediately taste the quality. We left eating so much & we still felt light & not super heavy. We were hungry when we ordered so we ordered way too much but I did not have one roll I didn't VERY MUCH enjoy. They were all so yummy & I had like 6 different rolls. Maybe more. The owner was so beyond sweet, she offered to comp any rolls I didn't like, but honestly there wasn't one I didn't like in the slightest. The workers were incredibly hard working. The restaurant was packed for a Tuesday evening & we were still looked after very well. I will definitely return & would recommend to others. Take a shot on this place you won't regret it!!
This was an interesting little place. The seats were uncomfortable, you had to write your order number on a scrap of paper, which was odd, but somehow liberating, & while they brought water, there was never anything else offered. The dish was brought out with whole flower heads cut & placed on the food artistically, which isn't bad, but the flowers stained the rice purple where they touched. No ill effects so that's good. Some of the rolls were also somewhat flimsy - not enough rice or seaweed holding them together, maybe. That said, the food was exquisite! The price was also reasonable, considering the quality of the food! Recommend trying it when you're in Montreal.
The presentation of our food was lovely but our rolls had practically zero rice to them & were very small in size, especially at that price point.
Tried Sushi Rosa in Montreal & had a great experience. As someone with celiac disease, I really appreciated how seriously they took my gluten allergy staff were attentive & careful, which made me feel safe eating there.
The sushi rolls were fresh, flavorful, & beautifully prepared. On top of that, the customer service was top-notch from start to finish.
Highly recommend if you're looking for quality sushi & a place that genuinely cares about dietary needs.
The restaurant's menu is incredibly diverse, ranging from traditional sashimi to modern rolls. My favorites are the creative sushi variations with spicy sauce & cheese; the flavors are very unique & unusual.Despite the quality...
Highly recommend. Delicious, fresh food. Fried sushi was hot, cold sushi was fresh, rolls were fully packed, & the flower decorations are just stunning-I personally have never seen that at a sushi restaurant. Very reasonable prices.
Very warm & kind service went well above & beyond as well. They thoughtfully helped us celebrate our friend's birthday as well.
I will certainly return & highly.
