Went there for brunch on a Saturday. Although the place actually looks welcoming the service & the food are to be desired.
The biggest issue I had is that they mention on the menu that their pancakes are served with maple syrup when they are actually served with corn syrup. I had asked for the maple syrup to be served on the side & when I was about to put some on my son's plate not only was the texture a give-away but the taste as well. I asked the waitress for actual maple syrup, she told me they did not have any & that they served this'pancake' syrup mixed in with some maple syrup. I directed her to the menu which clearly mentions maple syrup. 5 minutes later a man came by with some very golden'maple syrup'. Why advertise the use of it if you won't serve any? It's a bit insulting to clients & where is our Québécois pride in it?
The rest of he food was okay, the matcha latte was very grey & chalky - either it's bad quality or they let their matcha oxydize on the counter.
I really wanted to enjoy this place as it's close to home. Walked in on Saturday, seated outside which was great & it was a sunny day. Waitress took 20 minutes to come & see us, & it took an hour & 20 minutes to actually receive the food. I followed up with the waitress twice, which whom on the second time, told me some of the food was ready & on the counter, the other food was being cooked. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be excited that my food was finally coming, or that my food was sitting on the counter until the rest was ready.
Told them I had a nut allergy. When the food was brought to the table, I asked if it was ok, waitress said she didn't know (it was a different person) & that she'd check with the kitchen & come back. She never did.
The scrambled eggs were nothing great, small portion, on a single plate. A separate plate for french toast, a separate plate for the potatoes. I don't understand why they wouldn't put it all in one plate. The waitress visibly saw that we had no space to fit all of that on the table, besides the other dishes, but she still'tried'. During the hour & 20 minute wait time, not once did she come back to ask us if we wanted a refill on our coffee, or anything in the meantime. Nor did she ever come to say sorry, or explain the lengthy wait time. At the very least, they could have simply waived the 3$ coffee from the bill to accommodate for the poor service, food quality, & wait time. It was truly a waste of 70$. We really wanted to like this spot, but we wont be returning.
We paid over $60 for two coffees & two eggs benedict. The coffees were good, but the eggs benedict were terrible. For that price, I expected better quality & more generous portions.
There was barely any hollandaise sauce on the eggs. So little that I could hardly taste it, which makes me doubt it was homemade. The dish also came with a salad, but the dressing was all pooled at the bottom, so I had to mix it myself. The fries were pretty good.
The service was also not great. The staff seemed confused & super nervous for some reason.
I'm not sure why our experience was so different from the other reviews here. Maybe someone was in training, but overall, it was disappointing.
For how much we paid, I'd rather go get a full meal instead of 4 poached eggs for $60. Ridiculous.

The food at Sunny's Dinette was honestly 5 starreally delicious & well done. However, the service & atmosphere didn't quite match the quality of the food. Service felt average & the overall vibe could use some improvement. Great place for the food itself, but the experience could be better.

Sunny's Dinette - A retro brunch gem you won't want to miss
What a great find! Sunny's Dinette delivers a brunch experience that's both nostalgic & modern. From the moment you walk in, you're charmed by the retro decor - pastel blue tiles, vintage stools, & soft natural light. It feels like stepping into a 1960s American diner, but with a fresh, refined twist.
The service is fast, friendly, & attentive. The staff is welcoming, knows the menu well, & offers great suggestions based on your preferences.
As for the food - it's flawless. The pancakes are legendary: fluffy, generous, & served with fresh fruit & house-made maple syrup. The coffee is excellent, & the freshly squeezed juices add a refreshing touch. Special shoutout to the breakfast sandwich: flavorful, well-balanced, & perfectly grilled.
Congratulations to the new owners who've added their special touches while preserving the soul of the place. You can feel the passion behind every detail - from the ambiance to the kitchen.
Prices are very reasonable for the quality (around $20-30 per person), & the cozy vibe makes it perfect for brunch with friends or a quiet solo moment.
I would absolutely recommend it with 5 stars. It's the kind of place you'll want to come back to - & come hungry.

Great brunch spot! Great food, reasonable/average prices, good service... all was great, but a quality of the coffee, unfortunately. I would totally recommend for a breakfast or brunch, this spot, & wouldn't mind to come back
Sunny's Dinette is a perfect blend of classic American diner vibes & Montreal's local charm. The ambiance is warm & inviting, with just the right mix of retro aesthetics & a cozy, modern feel. Whether you're here for brunch or just a coffee break, it's a spot that makes you want to linger.
Their drinks are excellent. The latte was smooth & well-made, showing they have the right equipment, & the hot chocolate was perfectly comforting-rich, creamy, & just what you need on a chilly day.
For food, we ordered the eggs Benedict & the classic plate, & both were fantastic. The eggs Benedict wasn't just delicious, it was beautifully presented, with a hollandaise that had the perfect balance of richness & tang. The classic plate was simple but well-executed, with fresh, high-quality ingredients. But the real standout? The potatoes. Both dishes came with golden, crispy, & flavorful potatoes that were simply amazing.
With high-quality ingredients, generous portions, & fair prices, Sunny's Dinette is a place I'll definitely be coming back to. Highly recommend!
Awesome experience!! Food was absolutely amazing in taste, quality & price. Service was excellent & we came from Ontario & they even helped us with things to do in MLT! Thank you!
