Review Summary

Overall, Sucrerie de la Montagne offers an authentic, family-run sugar shack experience with lively traditional music, a warm rustic setting and generous maple dishes that many visitors remember fondly. The atmosphere, friendly staff and the chance to see maple production up close are frequently praised, though reviews also note crowded rooms, long waits and reservations that can feel unreliable at peak times. Prices are described as high by some, and while portions and menu variety can vary, many say the experience is worth it for those seeking true Quebecois tradition, especially families who enjoy the tour, maple candy on snow and the store full of local goodies.

Went for the sugar shack experience & was not disappointed. The fresh maple taffy was incredible & the meal was delicious. I loved the pea soup! They had live music including a violinist. Fun for a family outing or gathering with friends.

Incredible authentic Canadian maple syrup experience. The Faucher family are wonderful people rich with heritage.

Where do I even begin?

There was no handicapped parking in the lot, & the parking staff there were slightly unfriendly.

Our reservation had specifically requested a 30-minute arrival, but when we arrived, we were informed that the dining area wasn't ready & to explore the area(to b fair, we couldn't explore cause it was hailing outside).

The traditional meal appeared to not be homemade. Our bacon was brunt, but the eggs & ham with maple syrup was delicious. The bread was beyond amazing! (I should've asked for the recipe).

If you wanted anything other than tea (selection was very limited), coffee, or water, you could purchase drinks from the bar. The bar did take debit.

Our server was incredibly helpful & kind!

The music was a nice touch, but it made it difficult to hear anything.

Overall, I think $162.22 for two people was a bit steep considering the quality of the food we had.

It was a wonderful setting to enjoy a delicious meal! The fireplace, outdoor fire & traditional, functional tapping on full display made for an interactive, immersive experience. The maple candy in the snow cannot be missed, & make sure to stop in the general store before you leave.

Great food. I enjoyed our sugar shack experience. Really liked that they did not drench everything in maple syrup, instead you can put the quantity that you want.
Decor is cool & place ia lively with band.

Food was disappointing. I'm 99% sure the mashed potatoes were instant powder, the eggs were barely edible, & there were no little maple sausages or oreilles de crisse.

That said, the biggest issue isn't just the food, it's the price. We paid $280 for four people, which is honestly ridiculous considering what was served. It felt like the total cost of the food on the table couldn't have been more than $20.

At that price point, you expect quality & authenticity. Unfortunately, this felt more like a very expensive, very underwhelming breakfast.

It was a lovely visit. We got a tour of the place, shown equipments & learned how maple syrup is made in a traditional way. Food was delicious, & we had maple syrup taffy on snow as well. Stefan was an amazing, kind host. It was a very special experience overall.

Dinner here was an incredible experience. The family that runs the maple farm was very hospitable & took the time to show us the property & explain the entire process. Dinner at the farm was the highlight of our travels around Quebec with how great the maple syrup, food, wine, & atmosphere was.

Visited with my tour. It was a very pleasant experience which started with a short tractor ride to the cabins. The grounds beautiful, the atmosphere lively & the service terrific. We were warmly greeted by the owner & his family. It was educational & interesting, but I felt as if I was visiting friends. The live music kept me in good spirits. The maple syrup was delicious so I bought some to take home. The food served family style was just ok for me & the portions small for our large table, however we made due. The fact that we had a good time more than made up for it. I would recommend this as a place to visit.

Honestly, disappointed. It seems as though at'peak' time/the heart of winter this must be the place to go. We booked our sugar shack experience back in March for today, which explicitly stated the taffy/maple experience is available through April. We flew in yesterday & took an hour uber over from Montreal, only to show up & have them tell us the taffy/maple experience stopped 2 weeks ago but we could have the meal still if we wanted. It's hard to decide for sure who's'fault' this is, but communication from the business would have been appreciated as we ended up wasting over 2 hours & around $200 ubering to/from Montreal for this experience. We had to call & confirm that the experience was even'open' prior to leaving as no communication or confirmation was received from the business.

I went to the sugar shack with my meetup group, & it was an unforgettable day! We rode a horse-drawn carriage through the woods to a cozy dining hall. There, we saw how maple syrup is traditionally extracted, which was super interesting. The food was absolutely delicious-fresh soup, strong coffee, hearty mains, & mouthwatering desserts. After eating, we took a short scenic walk on a nearby trail, soaking in the peaceful vibe. I even picked up a few cute fridge magnets as souvenirs. Best of all, I made new friends & shared laughs along the way. It was a wholesome & amazing experience!

Pros:
-Very nice place & setup;
-Nice people;
-Good pea soup.

Cons:
We were a small group of 5.
-Very expensive for what you get ($59+tx per adult);
-The quantity of food the waiter delivers is limited by the size of his tray. For a group of 5, it leaves us with ridiculously small portions. You can reorder but the waiter can't supply.
-The tourtière (meat pie) is much too thin. The ratio of crust to meat leaves the taste to be mostly crusty. The tourtière is a very important part of the experience. It should never be crewed up.
-The beans, meat balls, sausage, ham & bacon were very average.
-The pancakes were not your regular fried cabane à sucre type. They were regular TV pancakes. This was by far my biggest regret.
-We went there a little early in the season so we were served last year maple syrup. That in it's self is not a problem. However, it was a dark & mediocre syrup.

Note: I did not try the omelet, & the potatoes (not interested). I am not a big fan of sugar pie so I won't comment.

It was not terrible, but sadly, it was my worst experience of a cabane à sucre. In my view their very positive reviews must be due to an inexperienced clientele (city slickers) who would never venture too far from a highway. I went there because it came highly recommended by someone who went there during the dead season (December 2023). Maybe it was a different cook back then.

Nice little place, but roads to get there are dangerous espacially at night! The food is awfull as well as the wine. 75$ to eat dry bacon, faty ham & mash patatos is a hard pass. Even the maple sirup is not up to part. Sorry but way overated for me.

Everything was great, very crowded & a little too noisy the band. I am pretty sure the syrop they offer on the table is NOT maple syrop. Which was pretty stunning. But seeing that 400 year old bearded man with the penetrating eyes is something I'll never forget

Authentic sugar shack (cabane à sucre) with great people, tasty food, folk music, & nice place to visit. It is my second time there! The food & maple syrup are amazing! I suggest to go early morning since it is less crowded. One of my favorite sugar shack! Feels like the ones I was going when I was a kid. It is worth the distance from Montreal since most around Montreal are too commercial.

We enjoyed this unique experience very much! There was minimal to no snow so we had the maple taffy over ice, which was delicious! Ice cubes mixed into the taffy was actually super refreshing after the meal inside! I will say the meal was a lot of food, but it's the way of the sugar shacks I guess! The people were so kind & friendly & it was so pretty walking through the maple bush seeing all the buckets filling up. Don't miss going into the bakery & talking to the taffy maker to see where the magic happens :)
