Review Summary

Shushu Haru draws strong praise for vegan dishes and memorable sushi, with many noting delicious, flavorful options, a well decorated space, and a convenient canal side location. At the same time, experiences vary: service is often described as slow or uneven, and several reviewers report a gap between online menus and what is actually offered, including changes after the dedicated dining room closed and the menu appearing elsewhere. The restaurant is sometimes considered pricey, though several comments say the quality justifies the cost when the kitchen delivers, while other critiques highlight oversized sushi pieces, the choice of rice types that can overpower flavors, and a tartare that some found dull or too salty. Dishes such as zaumon tartare are singled out for mixed results, while favorites like the bun, various vegan sushi options, and sides are celebrated. Desserts have sparked debate as well, with coconut panna cotta praised by some and strawberry panna cotta described as disappointing. Allergy concerns are mentioned in one review, and the overall tone ranges from enthusiastic to cautious, but the food is repeatedly said to carry the experience and leave room for return to explore more of the vegan menu.

I visited Shush Haru & had a decent experience, but I have to say Ohana really stood out for me. The flavors at Ohana felt fresher & more balanced, & the presentation was excellent. While Shush Haru was enjoyable, I'd personally choose Ohana for its quality & overall dining experience. Again, not bad! But I had better vegan 🍣!

The best sushi I've ever had (vegan or otherwise). Very fresh & great flavour. Would highly recommend.

The best vegan sushi we've tried anywhere in the world including San Francisco & Las Vegas. The food was absolutely delicious, authentic & farm fresh. The service was incredible too. There was no rush, they brought the food out in stages giving us time to eat slowly & enjoy our food. This was an utter treat & we will be back.

Delicious vegan sushi!!! All items we ordered were fabulous. My favourites: Blossom rolls & the Gyoza but really everything tasted fresh & wonderful. Service was attentive & friendly :) Highly recommend!

I hope this goes to the owners & not directly on Google but the mushroom ramen tasted like dehydrated mushrooms almost inedible
Sushi was OK some better than others but didn't feel so fresh

As for the place beautiful décore
Service was good but waiters could be more vibrant & fun

The 18-piece sushi combo (20$) is a good deal. Fresh, tasty plant-based sushi made of whole foods ingredients. They prepared my takeout order in a timely manner. Convenient location near the Lachine Canal, not far from Atwater Market. Although I did not dine-in, the ambiance seems lovely as well.

Have tried a few things here for both takeout & dine-in - super fresh, so beautifully well prepared, it’s an art. For those allergic to a lot of seafood like me, or have chosen vegan for all the obvious benefits - Shushu does an amazing job mirroring different sushi textures & umami flavours with just veg. It’s so impressive & delicious!

I excitedly awaited a visit to Shushu Haru & when I finally got there, it was even better than I anticipated. The food was so fresh, tasty & elegantly prepared & put together. The staff was friendly & attentive (& super accommodating to my allergies which isn’t easy considering sesame is prominent in Japanese cuisine). Cute decor too & a great location by Atwater Market. A gorgeous dine-in experience or perfect for take-out by the canal. 10/10 would recommend.
